  1. Well today my dog went to the vet as last night and this morning he had been sounding like he was trying to clear his throat and we were also worried he could have something caught in his throat. He was diagnosed with an aggrivated throat with the possibility it could be the start of KC and was told to monitor him. I am glad we took him as I now know for certain his throat is clear so I'm not worrying and I know to keep him away from other dogs for a little bit so if it is KC we won't spread it around.
  2. In the bath, with the rubber shower/hose connector thing attached to the tap
  3. Elbie is absoloutly adorable, with his looks and wonky ears and he is so clever too
  4. I have fed a few can's of natures gift(? 80% sure it was this) to my current dog only becuase we won it as a prize at our obediance day and he loved it but it is not a regular occourance saying that the family's previous dog happily lived off can food/dry mix of a mixture of brands and he was fine with it and looked great
  5. I am another who lets the dog walk in front, sniff ect. He doesn't pull on the lead, doesn't trip me up, keeps an eye on me and if I call his name I can mostly get his attention straight away so for me this works for our walks. I can see how for some dog's being at the side for the duration of walk works but for me currently it doesn't as at the moment I am working on trying to make the heel posistion a fun place to be, where if I ask him to be there I get all his attention. So while I'm teaching this I'm only asking him to be there for a small amount of time, sometimes only taking a few step's before before releasing him to what ever he wants to do for a little while. So I think that if he was in this position for the duration of the walk I might struggle with him in getting the attetion and happieness in being in that posistion.
  6. I think this is a bit unfair as this except worded a little bit different and I included a bit inquiring if they had any litters planned for later this year or early next year is the email I was planning sending to a breeder. I am serious about this though not entirely 100% decided on a breed though I had researched the breed quite thoroughly and would have hated to have been put in the junk pile and have been forever ignored just because I was inquiring in the price. As a first time buyer buying from a registered breeder I didn't see anything wrong with my email, I thought it was polite and to the point so I wasn't wasting any of the breeder's time.
  7. Keeshond (hopefully next dog) Samyod Standard poodle Australian Shepard Finnish laphund great dane Newfoundland Jack Russell terrier Wippet Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
  8. Ouch, know how you feel, I can still here the sound my head made as it connected with a tree a while back when I was using the tree as a hiding spot from my dog, well suprise he found me and rammed me hard from behind causing my knees to cave in and my head to connect hard
  9. I had this problem when my pup was younger, in the end when ever we went outside which was where the jummping/nipping/clothes tugging was mostly happening we had a water spray bottle in reach and treat in our pocket. So when ever he jumped up and went to grab onto clothing he got a spray, and as soon as all feet where back on the ground and his mouth wasn't full of us he would get a treat, or as soon as he let go after the spray we asked him to sit/drop then treated, as soon as he had finished the treat he was quickly directed to more suitable play. WE tried the ignoring him too, but it was afully hard to ignore, and my younger sister wasn't able to ignore it, so we tried this method and after awhile his behaviour stopped and now if he looked like he was going to miss behave we can normally get in first with the sit/drop and distract him
  10. I voted both and over 12 months and while thats true he is only day's past his 1st birthday so it might change as he gets older, and it will also depend on what food he is on as at the moment he is getting roughly 6 cups of food a day and I wouldn't feed that to him in one sitting
  11. With Labradors doing agility when do you advice they start, as I have a now almost 12month old lab(possible lab X) and while he is not fat he weighs in around 40kg and I do not want to start to early
  12. I have used them and the roll (which was easy and clean to cut) as training treats and they're good
  13. yep they we started with the hide a treat in a spoonfull of peanut butter, but after a day or two he would see the peanut butter and refuse to eat a thing so now its we just pop it down his throat when ever he needs them, though he still refuses to eat a round shape of peanut buter
  14. ooh there are some nasty one's the last one I can understand, I recived similar marks although not quite as bad on my chest and back when mine decided that swimming was too much hassle and that he really needed to be up on my shoulders then changing his mine and trying to climb up me to leap off, which although is easier in the water, is no small feat when he is over 35kg
  15. at the moment I'm sitting here icing goth my knee and ankle as I got caught in one of the knee deep holes dug in the back yard. I know its quite minimal compared to what some people have gone through, so was wondering whats the worst harm your dog has caused you?
  16. just when ever, though for a month or so he was getting washed every week under advice from the vet as he had a bit of skin irritaion
  17. Barton (staffy) - Named after a highway we drove on to collect him as we couldn't decided on anything and the surburb the breeder lived in was unpronouncable Deakin (mostly lab) - named after Alfred Deakin the second primeminister as a tribute to Barton
  18. so far we haven't encountered blue tounge lizards with our current dog and not sure how it would go but with the last dog we had multiple encounters and all ended sadly for the lizard while the dog was fine

  22. we have recently gone through practically the same thing with a large lump under the jaw of our roughly 9 month old lab except I never heard about the hot compress, in the end after it went down following antibiotics but was still easily felt and started growing again he went under to have it cut open. It turned out to be fragments of a grass seed
