I am in the same stage as you trying to get ready to enter a trial, and am a bit confused at how do you transfer a dog into your name? I am about to send in my membership application for the ACT, and the pedigree is signed on the back but am unsure if I need to wait in till I am registered and then do something or if I can send the pedigree along with my membership.

A fair number of uni students stay either on res or rent/share an apartment which doesn't allow pets, so they can't go home at the end of a hard day and relax with a puppy.

Still haven't figured out here how the 9kg Sheltie takes up more room then the 40kg Lab

What was the reason why you stopped training your dog? A bit of it was lack of time but with contributing factors. One dog he is at the level in both obedience and agility where control off leash is a necessary requirement which at the moment he does not have and so to be fair to the class mates and so I am not constantly getting annoyed at him he was pulled out. With the other dog he stopped going to obedience due to lack of time and as while he excelled at somethings he could not do some of the requirements to pass and I am not sure he will be able to get them without a lot of work which goes back to the time aspect. Do you feel your dog is well trained enough? One knows lots of behaviors but lacks control, the other yes to get bye Did you not get results from previous training attempts? We got some results and both dogs and I did learn lot Is training too far away/ too often/ too expensive? No Did you find training boring? No when I went with well behaved dogs I enjoyed it. What would prompt you to start training again or would you not start training again regardless? Free time when the class times are and some motivation to make some more effort with them

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew any come and try type days or anything that would be suitable for a 2yr old Shetland sheepdog that has never seen stock and a completely novice handler. I am located in the ACT but don't mind traveling. We are having a little trouble finding anything ourselves as the two numbers I had been given do not do Shetland sheepdogs.

Yes that was how my sheltie was initially vacinated around one and a half years ago, it ment when he was with us he only recived a 10 week needle rather then 10 and 16. There where no ill effects with him.

Could you continue to go each week but if your dog is uncomfortable stand on the outer edges of the class to create some distance if needed working some distance away from the group. Discussing with the insturcter and asking them to give your dog some distance when working for the time being. For stand for exam's I would hesitate to continue with full on stand for exams straight away and at least with this insturcter, I would do as adviced and reinforce each stage of the stand for exam again, working up to where your dog is comfortable enough to do a complete stand for exam at a distance with this instructer. You might not be able to achieve this but you can work towards it in the time frame you have. When not busy doing an exercise or before or after class if the the insturcter has time work on the issue of them being uncertain of the male instructer. This way you can still get the insturcters experiance and exercises.

I ordered 2 last time they where up and recived two medium dog print. The dogs aren't giant fans but they are still new so we will see if they end up becoming favourites, hopefully freeing up the human beanbags for human use The medium is 91cm x 91cm

I know in the ACT that you are legally and financially responsible your dog’s behaviour and any injuries or loss that your dog may cause while in the Dog park.

I was hoping someone could help me out with answering a quick question about neutered classes at shows. I thought that you had to be on the main register to be in a show either neutered class or normal class but I read this which seems to imply thats as long as the dog is desexed they can enter the neutered show class. The puzzle the set up is in the middle of the lounge room so I would feel mean keeping the dogs out and luckily neither dog seems to intrested in eating the puzzle so far I am horrible with codes and have no idea what they mean most of the time MDTL, MDTM, MTDP, the only guess I have is MatureDogTraining Person/Man/Lady ? :D ETA: ooh I posted after your post and Magical makes a bit more sense then mature :D I think this is because lot of the behaviours we don't want are self rewarding so its harder to get the desired results with only positive methods then with 'training'. example: training sit - You reward the dog for sitting, not standing or being in a drop neither of which are very exciting, so for a dog sitting and being fed is more desirable for the dog then not sitting and not being fed. therfore the dog is going to sit. Training the dog to sit when greeting people - The behaviour you don't want is the dog jumping all over someone,but for a dog this greeting is exciting and they are getting contact which kinda acts as a reward, so for a dog sitting getting treats might not be as fun as jumping all over someone so they are going to jump. But if you use negative concequences and the dog gets say a spray of water in the face if he jumps, sitting is going to be the more desirable action. If that all makes sense as this is the way I see it.

As its holidays and I aam still getting over my cold I have been working on a puzzle thanks to reading KTB's puzzle thread. yesterday - the poor abused souls Today - deakin sleeping on helping with the puzzle And just to show its done, the finished puzzle well mostly finished as its missing around 15 peices

Dandybrush Razzle is so handsome, did you get that shirt from a doler KTB Hoover looks so calm and cute all tucked in, and elbie just as cute in his santa outfit. Poor abused dog having to sit on his kennel just to keep his little paws dry Hering about those smelly farts made me think of my first dog, he was fedded the dredded supermarket sometimes pal food canned and dry. While he looked good on it no skin issues though looking back at photos when he was older he could have mabey ost a little weight, But what came out of him at night after dinner was just horrifying he could clear a room in seconds so I can sympathise and hope hoover stops soon. Max#1 what fun he must have had running off lead in the rain, hope the rest of the christmas party was fun otherwise. And don't worry about the running off a lot of people have to experiance it. least once a class or if not more when we were repeating transition in the 2nd half of the term I semmed to have to try and to get deakin to come back to me, this was when he discovered that if I wasn't holding the leash that ment he could run off. Luckily we were the only class in our paddock so we weren't interrupting other classes. Like max he didn't come when called even though he can do it fairly well in a dog park and when we are doing recalls in obediance. Also on the day of the test he decided to provide a little bit of comic relief and celebrate with the dog in the next ring on finishing the test (I am just glad they had finished other wise I would have felt even worse for interrupting what would have been their stays) It happened when I had to take off his lead to complete the second half of the individual test and got told to put the lead on the ground, I lined him up at the start peg and was about to leave him when he made a break for it and grabbed his lead and off he ran, and when he has his lead in his mouth he knows that I don't have it and so can't control him. I ended up catching him after a while when I threw some food at him then pounced on the lead to the cheer of the crowd, luckily he is a bit dim so he kept on trying to grab at it so he could run off rather then just running off. I felt better as the guy in the class above me with the celerbrating dog couldn't simply call his either and after the hilarious actions of last terms transition test it was held in one of the proper fenced in padocks so it was only me and deakin and the remains of the other class packing up after the stay and he couldn't get to far. lilli_star isn't that always the way, sound like ruby had a fun time, and how kind of your NDN to come over and helpravenau1 ooh how exciting that there is less then 12 days till you get your puppy, sorry can't remember if you said do you know which puppy is yours yet and have decided on a name, or is the breeder still choosing About black in the mouth deakin has a fairly black mouth, he occasionally has black spots on his tounge, and black above his teeth and is fairly dark on the roof of his mouth. He has never been given a chance to herd and probably never will as I'm not sure about how he would react with the sheep, if would attack or herd. He does occaionally point though which is fairly funny to see. Watson on the other hand is the one I would like to test with herding once his a bit older to see if he can do what his breed was bred to do, has a practicly all pink mouth.
