  1. That's really cool :D The one thing I found helpful was finding out what the breeder was going to be feeding (in my case, ProPlan puppy for dry) and stock up on it, especially if it's kind of expensive. Decide on a toilet training routine and stick to it. Find out about puppy preschool in your area, maybe start getting recommendations if there's more than one. Start collecting toys and things for her to chew, I did this and am still exhausting my supply, luckily too because OH accidentally ran over a couple of her soft toys that were hidden in the long grass last week with the mower!
  2. yes its to help me try lol to control my excitement i estimated it should be around that time but im hoping it will be earlier hehe I know exactly what you mean, it was a really unexpectedly short time between when I decided I wanted a lappie until I found out a puppy was available from a breeder I really liked But it was a couple of months still, and it seemed like forever, and I wanted to be as prepared as possible as well. Are you getting your puppy locally?
  3. I got a puppy bed for Luuka from my BT Thread SS this year and she won't sleep in it, she likes to sleep on her tummy on the hardwood floors that's all. She will lie in it to chew things sometimes though. You can buy the schmanciest bed ever and she may only want to sleep on the floor or on an old towel so I wouldn't stress too much. Also for something that's so far away you sure do have an exact date! :D
  4. I notice the sniffies start to happen, also Luuka seems to have one area of the house that she wees in so I try to make sure I am keeping an eye on when she heads in that direction. She doesn't want to be around us all the time so it is difficult, but we can only do our best and praise lots when she wees outside.
  5. I know they're so cute! He is so good to her, I would have lost my patience/temper with her so many times if I was him but he just does the doggy equivalent of the benign smile-and-nod or jumps up on the bed/couch if he needs a break That was also a really calm reaction to her being in the pool, he gets very protective so he runs circles around the pool barking madly like "HALP SOMEONE HAAALP" while she sits primly in the middle watching him rund around like a mental case!
  6. "Alright in you go, I'ma just wait here, don't like that clam pool unless it's ridiculously hot." "Okay please get out now you're making me nervous." "How about a spot of puppy bowling?" "STRIKE! VICTORY DANCE!" "Ow my leg!" "Argh, terrifying puppy attack! Halp!" "DEMON PUPPPY ATTAACCCK!" The aftermath... Thanks for reading
  7. Just thought I'd share (for about the third time on DOL haha sorry for those who've already seen in various breed threads!) these photos I took yesterday of Atlas and Luuka playing. I'm a terrible photographer and my iPhone camera is dreadful as well so not a great combo but they came out okay and you get the picture anyway I gave Atlas a bath in some Malaseb because he has a patch of flea allergy dermatitis. I let him out in the yard to dry off and followed him downstairs .... "Oh, hey little sister, just coming down for a roll in the grass after my awful bath, carry on with whatever you're doing..." "Mmmmm yep rolling in the grass sure does feel good!" "I have a strong sense of foreboding... I wonder what that's about... oh well!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" "Oh you're dead meat girl!" "Awww, kisses. I guess you're forgiven."
  8. To the OP, just wondering, have you actually spoken to the neighbours about the problem at all? I also really like pers' idea about removing the bell Doesn't solve the problem of the cat being out at night and harming wildlife But does solve the barking dog / noise problem!
  9. As long as I and my family have had dogs we've always used Heartguard monthly chewable tablets and neither I nor my family's dogs have ever ever contracted heartworm. That's my input
  10. Luuka sometimes sleeps with the tip of her tongue poking out. It's super cute but is it okay? What if it goes all dry? I have attached a photo of her sleeping so you can see what I mean (and for 'awww' purposes - yes she is sleeping using Atlas for a pillow).
  11. .. from www.vetproductsdirect.com.au Oh wow I didn't know that! I thought it was just fleas and ticks! Thanks Ams! Will definitely give the spray/lotion a go first because we just started him on Comfortis and I want to give it a chance to work properly though I didn't find any fleas on him tonight and I normally find 1 or 2 little ones. B**tards.
  12. He's always inside at night, in a crate in our bedroom and we have one of those plug-in mosquito tab thingies in the wall (high up though). Thanks heaps for that I'll go and grab some equine insect spray tomorrow.
  13. Anything I can do to stop them biting him? Tea tree wash or something? Poor fella.
  14. I was just flea-combing Atlas (our nightly ritual) when I noticed some raised, red bumps on his furless areas (tummy, testicles) not heaps just a few but they look itchy. I didn't find any fleas on him but I did find a patch near the base of his tail that's rubbed quite raw that I have never seen before. The mosquitoes are really bad here at the moment, do you guys think they might be biting him and that's what the bumps and itchy patches are? Going to take him to the vet in the morning, he doesn't appear distressed and he's not scratching a lot but I want to make sure everything's okay... Am I being silly? Is there anything I can do for him? I have flea wash, white wash and puppy wash would any of that help? I gave him a Comfortis yesterday for the first time.
  15. Roger that! Didn't think of them actually swallowing them! We never eat it - I couldn't get back into it after I got my braces off 8 years ago - but when we do I will make sure we add the cobs to the "bag of stuff we put out on bin morning in case the dogs raid the bins" bag in the freezer. Also includes cooked bones.
  16. Hey guys, I have some corn cobs in my fridge (uncooked obvz) and was wondering can I give them to the dogs to gnaw (supervised)? I am not a huge corn fan (KoRn is another story ) so I would like to get rid of them in a non-wasteful way. Thoughts?
  17. Ahh so can they set people up to share cabins if both parties are agreeable? It wouldn't matter either way, I could stay at a friend's in Brisbane or I could probably stay with / near Luuka's breeder on the GC too.
  18. Tempted to go to this and would be interested in being a bunkmate if your friend doesn't want to go Would bring Luuka.
  19. This lady sounds like she may actually need some serious help ;) I would be so angry if someone brandished a metal pole at me and Atlas But surely she realises this is an extreme and inappropriate action? She must have had a really bad experience with dogs or been told a horror story or something. I am pretty sure my dog would get quite upset (and therefore look threatening) if someone brandished even a stick at him when he was just minding his own business sniffin' things and walking politely. I have friends who are scared of dogs but they aren't anywhere near that, usually they just ask that I come and escort them inside the gate or I put Atlas on a leash for one of the very fearful ones, until At has had a sniff of his hand then wanders off. As soon as they're in the gate and "okayed" by us he couldn't care less.
  20. LUUKA DOES THAT TOO!!! Hahahahha I was trying to describe it to her breeder but I had trouble but that is exactly what it is! She mostly does it when I'm about to feed her Piggy porker I call her!
  21. UPDATE :) She just texted me saying she wants to do Puppy Pre-School with Luuka and I and asking how much and when does it start!!! :D :birthday: This is a girl who would not have even dreamt of it with her last dog.
  22. Happy birthday poodlefan! Have a great day even if you are at work - or have a great one afterwards!
  23. Atlas did this a few times, seemed to just be a phase though. Has it been going on for awhile?
