  1. Hmm.... moderately? With a "Luuka! Watch!" she will look back at me 90% of the time, but not for long, then the nose goes back down. It reminds me of how Atlas behaved when there was a bitch in season in our group once ;)
  2. It was really annoying me! It was just "heel up, heel up, heel up, heel up" over and over in an angry voice, and this Dobermann just kept dragging her around anyway, you know when a word gets repeated so much that it actually starts to not sound like a word at all? I know I'm supposed to concentrate on my own dog but gahhh it is very distracting! And the lady with the 'scared' dog wasted so much time in our class which really annoyed me. After every exercise she would interrupt and complain that the other dogs were scaring her dog, which was just rubbish, SHE was scaring her dog, by being so freaked out! It was really annoying me and the trainer was too nice IMO Luuka is pulling on the martingale quite a bit at the moment to sniff the ground. It's like someone spilled liver treats all over the oval!
  3. Yep I found it much cheaper online and will probably buy it with my tax return You're a doll JS thanks heaps
  4. Another dream night Except for an aggressive dog with a pathetic owner. Oh and the lady who kept screeching on that her dog was terrified all the time to mask the fact that it was in fact she who was terrified. The dog was fine Oh, and is "heel up" a kind of 'done' thing with certain breeds or something? One lady kept growling 'heel up' at her Dobermann ALL NIGHT and it was really grating on me for some reason. The fact that she was repeating it every four seconds really didn't help. But Luuka was awesome! More tomorrow, I'm exhausted
  5. huski I would be more worried about my gigantic arse than my bad handling  It's getting smaller slowly!
  6. My next dog will be a miniature bull terrier I know what you mean with non-matching dogs! huski thanks :D Like I said to TN on Facebook I'll probably set up the video and move out of the frame But I'll give it a go! I'm going to use her video of training Soaks to do 'shy' to teach Luuka that trick, it's awesome!
  7. Thanks guys! She just turned 9 months on Sunday. I have started a blog for her, just about to do an update about last week :D But I really want to have a record of her achievements which I am sure will be awesome She is so clever and funny and friendly and happy, I couldn't be happier with my decision to get a lappie, and from the particular breeder I chose  She is very supportive of my decision to not show and do obedience/agility instead
  8. An explanation would have saved me a lot of angst for sure! I checked the return policy, all good, they refunded me! They agreed that that lens isn't really designed to work with the D5000, tried to sell me the 1.4 AF-S for $799 :D No thanks, I only paid $209 for the 1.8 AF. Bit of a difference though I still do want to buy the AF-S at some point soon! I am definitely going to look at my 'future' lenses and see what the options are for the motor lenses, perhaps consider going to the D90. I can't thank you all enough for your help, I never would have solved this if not for all of you!
  9. I don't really want anything I have to be even closer to use. I think I'll have to shell out for the 50 1.4 AF-S. Sigh. I just worry that since technically the lens works, they wont let me return it
  10. A girl at work told me to buy the 35mm 1.8 AF-S instead of the (quite expensive) 50mm 1.4 AF-S (there is no 1.8 AF-S). Thoughts?
  11. Hi FranCQ - you can't just poke your head in without posting photos of Luuka. and have you given any thought to trialling??? Sure have! I really want to! I'm aiming to enter our first trial early next year. I will post some photos soon! She is the loveliest girl.
  12. *pokes head in* Hi all, thought I'd join in here. It's Luuka and my 3rd night of obedience tonight (first night was just hearing the rules lecture). Last week, she was so great, I was nearly teary The instructor came over to me while the rest of the dogs were being settled into their sits and said "I hope you are going to trial her, she is very focused on you and her movements are very precise. You're doing really well and you both look like you're having a lot of fun". :D I couldn't have been happier. I even got to help a young boy in the class who was struggling with his dog :D I would really like to be a volunteer trainer there one day. Can't wait for tonight! So different to when I first started training with Atlas, I would dread it, then come home in tears
  13. Does anyone know if I have to notify the Ekka people that I won't be able to make it to the show? I have emailed their customer service but have received no reply, my breeder said she's not 100% sure, she is going to ask around for me to see if I have to notify anyone. I just thought someone here might know straight up.
  14. Orly? I'll see what they say, I am only worried that they'll say "no you didn't" when I tell them what I asked for .. I don't trust salespeople usually, should have been more self-educated when I went in. If they are pains then I will let you know! This one has been lovingly cared for. You're welcome. Lucky for you I am bored at work today. :D Now the challenge is to make yourself think about all this next time you go take a photo. I will! I am a very visual person, I don't remember numbers or quantities, so to have a visual idea of what is going on inside my camera in order to take good shots is just incredibly helpful to me!
  15. macka that is the EXACT explanation that I wanted. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Ahhhh that is all making so much more sense now.
  16. But I've used the lens Won't they tell me that voids the return policy?
  17. Okay. I bought it less than a week ago so I'll go in this afternoon. I still have every scrap of packaging that they gave me plus the receipt and warranty. My issue is that there's no way I can afford to upgrade to the AF-S today (maybe next week).. will they just give me a credit note maybe? I'm really annoyed now.
  18. That's what I thought too actually kja. I went in to Camera House (was too excited to wait for internet delivery) and said "I would like a 50mm 1.8 lens to suit my Nikon D5000" and that is what they sold me. The AF-S is a lot more expensive but I didn't even get the choice If it would annoy a photographer like you kja how the hell am I ever going to use it
  19. Thanks Kirislin! I think I need to do a crash course in using the camera somewhere. I get that there are settings like ISO, shutter speed, f stop etc but I don't know what they mean and the people I've been asking aren't explaining it well, like they tell me 'oh for this type of photo use a high ISO' or whatever but I want to know WHY. I'm going to have a good look through the document JS sent me awhile ago actually.
  20. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That is okay macka! Thanks heaps! I am just so relieved there's not something wrong with my lens or camera! I don't mind a challenge at all I was just upset because I thought I had done something wrong! I did read that about the no auto focus motor in the D5000 but didn't really know what that meant when I read it I'm so relieved! And I feel very silly! So I will just need to focus with the focus ring on the front of the lens?
  21. Hey guys/gurus, I bought my 50mm 1.8 AF lens for my Nikon D5000 the other day and so far have failed to take a single good shot with it. I have tried different settings, to no avail, my photos are always fuzzy, well nearly always. Here's the thing - even on automatic mode, it won't autofocus. Is that normal for this lens? I can't find a switch anywhere on the lens itself that turns it on unlike my other lenses (18-55 VR and 55-200 VR) which both have switches. With the other lenses attached, the camera makes a little 'bipbip' noise, focuses automatically and then takes the picture. There's no noise except for the shutter with the 50mm lens attached. What am I doing wrong?! I feel like the biggest idiot on the planet right now. ETA: Don't worry, I should just look up the manual and learn how to do it. I just don't get why the AF won't work on my 50mm.
  22. Gosh! Sounds like a shocker of a week! I am developing a (deserved) relationship for not taking any cr*p at my dog park, one of the ladies I walk with there told me proudly the other day that she "did a Fran" and politely asked another dog owner to stop their larger, strange dog (ie, not one of the regulars) jumping all over / dominating her little dog. I do attempt the utmost politeness and congeniality at all times where appropriate of course.
  23. BM did you make that first one? I am bawling my eyes out and would like to share it on Facebook.
  24. That was my favourite too Looks like everyone had a wonderful day. Fable is just angelic!
