My pup seems to make these funny noises when he sleeps. I have only just realised it over the weekend coz he has slept in our room coz he is injured and needed to be crated. it sounds alot like the hiccups but isnt. Does anyone elses puppy do this? Is it a health concern or is it nothing?

Update: I ended up deciding to get a second opinion this afternoon and I am glad I did! We took him into a new vet, they were great and I will now be sticking with them! The vet said he his knee most likely has a green stick fracture. He gave us pain killers (the other didnt), gave us good advice and he gave Jet a needle (Which Jet completely ignored and didn't move or notice at all!) Very pleased. Taking him on monday for his xrays

No he didnt say why it happened i just told him how the puppy was jumping around etc and then started limping.

I have a dilema. I have just got back from the vet. As on my previous post: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=170309 As instructed by the Vet we need to get an xray over the next couple of days and if it is what they think it is (fibula vertosis or something) he needs to be operated on not long after otherwise it will get worse and cause him pain for the rest of his life. This operation will cost us $2000. So fingers cross that the xray shows us some better news! However, My mum said if they say it is that to go get another opinion as well from the vet to make sure before spending the money, as well. Just wanting to know everyones opinions as I am pretty upset!

westielover i hope it improves and he isnt in to much pain. Jet was still imping this morning and i have an appointment booked for tomorrow morning! I hope it isnt anything to serious.
-
Also she told me to make sure he rests it as much as possible.

Thank you for the advice I gave my local vet a call and the vet nurse was very helpful. She told me it does not sound serious since he is still running on it and to see how he goes over the next day and if there in no improvement to take him in.

He is a fox terrier cross. We are unsure what he is crossed, pictures below.

All you could do is wait and see. The best of luck for you.

My puppy Jet was running yesterday afternoon back and forth along the fence. Later I realised he was limping. This has happened twice previously when he has been playing rough with other dogs etc and he had stopped limping 20 minutes later in the pervious situations. This time he is still limping. I am concerned coz it has lasted so long. I am assuming it is a sprained left back leg. I have looked at the leg and there is no physical difference. I also felt and pressed a little harder on areas on the leg and he had no reaction. He has not whimpered once. The only difference is when I pull out the back leg which he isn't limping on he lets me pull it right out however the one thats sore when I pull it out he will pull it back and won't let me do it, but again no other noises or reactions. Last night I kept him crated to keep a close eye on him. This morning it seemed to improve a little and he is running and is fine, but is still limping. I wanted to see how it goes over night again, but I thought I would see what other people thought. Is there anything I can do to help? Should I leave it and see if it impoves again overnight?

my pup has just lot all of his baby teeth, they grow up so fast!
-
I never though about this until now. I wonder how my pup will react when i get him done in a month or so.

Thanks. he actually does wear a coat. last night he did not whinge until he heard us up this morning. so I am guessing all of this may of been coz he was not in his usual place outside?
-
We want him to be an outside dog mainly.

I agree. The one school is probably the best method to do for puppy preschool. It might confuse you and your dog about the different ways to teach him to perform things. You could always try the second school later on in a obeidence class.

Your puppy is adorable!!!! I took my pup to puppy preschool at about 10 weeks i think it was. I used Vip pet foods up in queensland but do a bit of research for your area. Good luck with the little one! My pup is currently nearlly 5 months and i have only just taken him to a dog park over the last few weeks. You need to at least wait til he has all his vaccinations and when you go to a park before letting him off lead just take note of the other dogs and there behaviour. Make sure they are suitable to be playing with him.

He was alot better last night! Instead of the laundry he was outside so maybe he was all weird due to not being outside but somewhere else? He didnt whinge at all last night I wentto bed early coz I was sick but I didnt hear a peep out of him until I opened to back door to feed him breaky Hopefully it will stay like this now. I only had him in the laundry due to the rain. I know what you mean about the if they hear you bit!

He was whining the night before also then also when i was not there?
-
Yes i took him outside to go to the loo, he has a dog bed and blanket and he sleeps in the same place everynight. He is in perfect health. I am trying my best not to let him sleep in my bed. I am not sure what else to do with him. Not on the saturday night. I though it may have been that too but then he has done it the other nights when the other dog was there.

Hi Dolers. I need to get more sleep! My 4 and a half month old puppy has been whining the last few nights. I am unsure what it is it could be the rain maybe? since he usually is really good. I know that alot of people say to ignore the puppy sometimes if he starts whining but it is becoming a bit hard over the last few nights. I was away for Friday night and my parents were looking after Jet. They told me he was whining all night long. On saturday night I went to my grandparents and my family including many cousins and my sisters were there for the night. My uncle has a new born 4 month old baby and when Jet started to whine for ages I had to let him in to make sure he would not disturb all the kids & baby who were asleep. So he slept in bed with me that night. Last night, he was placed into the laundry with my other 8 year old dog to sleep. He whined for a bit then was okay however early this morning he was whining again! I had to let him in as I live in a new estate where the houses are only a couple of metres apart. Can anyone give me a solution to stop the whining??

i only use bones and i also buy dog food biscuits that are good for there teeth.
-
oh that play dead with saying "bang" sounds great my pup has trouble with going down though he has never done it.
-
Your puppy is so gorgeous! I play tug o war with my pup everyday. I think there is no problem with this as long as the puppy knows when to stop, can control himself and can stop when you ask him too. Jet loves it. He now actually brings his rope or toys to my feet to play with him it is the cutest thing. I just play with him and if he gets to the stage where he is to rough or if i want him to stop i just say "no more". If you puppy has not learned to stop it that is okay. Try to start teaching him. You can also just walk away and he may stop with the toy all together.
-
Maybe try to eliminate all the toys and any distractions when you teach this one. Even say no in a sturn voice and then tell him to sit? My pup does get distracted eaisly too i found even putting him on his lead helps though

he is a cutie. I will do a bit more research, thank you for the advice. He eats anything so I am more concerned about his health. With what is best and stuff.
