How Far Ahead Do You Start Thinking About Your Next Dog?
Jetty replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've thought about breeds I would like but haven't 'planned' on another dog. We can't get another dog where we are so until we move somewhere else and it's suitable to have another dog we'll just have the one, Ideally I would like to have just the two in our household when we can get another one. -
He could just be picky. Jet will just look at his BH when there's no raw and walk away (I like to call him a snob when he does this :p ) he will always return later though when he realizes I won't give him anything else. I just leave it down for him to eat when he pleases but I don't have another dog or anything so I allow that. Some people suggest picking it up after a while then place it back down etc

Thanks Pers, will do!

Hi Guys, Not very often Jet is hurt! He has come inside tonight after being in our back garden with a chunk/cut near his eye. If I touch near the area he'll flinch. Should I treat it with something or let it be? I know it's only little but I stress that it'll get infected or something. TIA

Hey Katie, I'm willing to take part in a photo shoot if I have the look your after. I'll post on your wall on facebook so you can look through the photos on there. I won't be offended if you say no, I just need to do some new things and have some fun and this sounds like heaps of fun!

That's great news. To only think not to long ago the little guy was given not long to live! He's a battler!

I third Black Hawk. My dog does great on it and we have tried so many brands... advance, pro plan just to name a couple and none of them we liked as much as BH.

Thank you. I honestly don't remember a time without her. She has been with me through so many big life milestones. I just hope she is happy where she is now.

Thank you everyone. It's hard to not think of her and not be upset. I haven't really stopped crying I know it was the best thing to do for her though. We couldn't let the beautiful girl suffer.

My beautiful girl & companion while growing up had to be PTS yesterday. It was very sudden & she was very ill with Parvo and we couldn't do much for her. So the best solution was to end the pain and send her over the bridge. She was my companion during my late childhood and teenage years. She was by our sides always and we cherished her companionship very much. She was a simple dog who just loved to be in our presence on our laps having cuddles. Her favourite thing to do was go for walks. As soon as the lead came out she would jump up & down with excitement. When we first got this little princess she could fit in one hand. Such a tiny little puppy, she put up with my sisters & I dressing her up. My 9 year old sister used to dress her up in dresses & push her around in a pram when she was younger. She will be in my heart forever. It hurts so much to know she's gone. Whenever I look at Jet it reminds me of her. Rest in Peace Jessie, We will remember you always.

Yes;When i was a kid in the 1960's I can remember an outbreak that swept our neighborhood ,and many dogs died. When i was 16 and had my first job i bought a Bull terrier pup . I did not know then what i do now about dogs.I got her from a market;it turned out that she had distemper and was PTS.My last dog was always fully vaccinated until she was 9 then the vet said she didn't need the kennel cough one any more. The next year she got kennel cough and died. When i get my next dog i will have her fully vaccinated. It really is a personal choice though to discuss with your vet about the risks of disease and make your own informed decision. Why were you told not to vaccinate against kennel cough? because of the age?

Thanks K&P

We are moving to Capalaba in a month and it's to far to see our current vet so need to change. Can anyone recommend a good vet in that area? What I like about my current vet is the way they handle Jet. He gets a bit agressive with needles and they are really good in handling him when he is like that compared to other vet's we have seen. TIA

Naw.. cute stories. I get jealous with Jet & my fiancés relationship sometimes If we are in bed (Jet sleeps at our feet) as soon as he lays down Jet is pretty much on top of him giving him a million kisses. By this stage I am usually jealous that I'm not getting kisses from neither of them so I will call Jet to come to me and he just looks at me, then goes back to his kisses! Rejected much It's cute. Jet does insist to lay in between us until the lights are out most nights.

I joined after I got Jet when a high school friend who's a member recommended me to this forum. I only knew what my family knew about dogs, after joining this forum I discovered how little that knowledge was!

I can't afford a trainer at the moment so going to try my best to improve it myself. Thanks for the tips. Definitely need a refresher in recall and focus as well.

I am after some advice in regards to my 2 year old cross chasing cars. It's only a new habit. If I have him on the lead he will pull towards a car driving past as if he wants to chase it, I had a situation the other day which scared the hell out of me. Jet managed to bolt out the front door when my sister opened the door. He wouldn't dare try to attempt that if it were OH or I at the door but for some reason when it's someone else he does. Well a car was driving past the house and he went and ran after it chasing and barking and he nearly got hit! Lucky the car stopped when they did and came to see if he was ok. I hadn't caught him by then and he bolted off down the street a couple of houses away after another car. Lucky I caught him before it went further but I was so upset! Anyways I am after ways to solve this in the future. Advice? TIA

Jet is due for his this month. He is 2 years old, so had his puppy ones then had a yearly one a year later. So if I am reading this right does this mean I should not worry about it for another 2 years then get the 3 yearly vacc? If you want to vaccinate- he had had his booster, so doesn't need another one for three years. I am talking about a C3 vaccine. Kennel cough (if you wish to get this) still needs to be done yearly. Proheart (heartworm injections) also need to be done yearly. Oh ok. So only need to worry about Kennel Cough since I worm him monthly. Ty.

I had troubles with Jet's skin not so long ago. He was itchy & had flakey skin. I changed him onto Black Hawk Holistic & sardines and we no longer have that problem. I would recommend the food, I bet it's cheaper the ProPlan too.

I store my black hawk in one of those green bins. I can fit the whole 20kg in mine it has a snap thing for the lid to be secured on. I got it from the reject shop for $10.

I voted mornings because if they are left home alone during the day I feel it's better that they have had the exercise before hand to wear them out a bit IMO. I don't always do this though as I like my sleep. If I can get the motivation to wake earlier I would do it this way though.

that is so cute. I have Jet outside if I am vacuuming only because he gets in the way. Same with mowing. He will run around the mower and barks thinking it's a game or something.
