As I write this it is pouring so hopefully the show will go ahead. Today the 4th of March is Gundogs and heavy breeds show at Durack, so you would have a good chance of seeing some Mastiffs there. The show starts at 4pm

NO but I did find out that camping is unofficially allowed so that is the plan at this stage. Dogs QLD are beyond useless - not even the curtesy of replying to my email - Bad Form!!!! Thanks I was just looking at the show's that are Easter saturday night then back for a show Easter Sunday day. It would make sense to stay over night and not do the long drive back and forward. For me its 130k round trip. I am up there on the 3rd so I will check it out and see if they have any showers, will report back.

Big hugs to you all at this difficult time

Just wondering did you find an answer to this question?

I have three poodles and I bath and clip them every two weeks, my house has never smelt doggy. Are you able to have him groomed more often?

This is pretty much the rule in our house. we used to have four dogs sleep in our bedroom but we stopped that about a year ago. It was the best decision we ever made especially now we have a Newf. Three dogs can get on the lounge and the two biggest don't ( unless they sneak up ) we keep our formal lounge and dining area for visitors only

Lucky you having such a generous relative, can't really steer you in any particular direction I have a Sony so don't know much about cannon. I do regret going with Sony, but now I have well over $5,000 worth of gear so its very expensive to change now. A few of my friends have brought the new cameras that have interchangeable lenses but are way smaller then lugging around a very heavy DSLR. One of them brought a Panasonic Lumix GX1 Good luck in your search and you must post the photos when you get your new camera

Water Training On Lake Hume With Newfoundland Katy
mish13 replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I picked katy out of her litter at four weeks with the Volhard system and seeing her retrieving skills at that age, she retrieved a soft little ball at that age...i went back every week and it was still her, until week eight She started water retrieving at 16 weeks and we have just never stopped. We had to wait until 2 years old, before we put weight into the retrieve. She is a real natural and we also worked hard at her loving all people she meets :) Boy I wished I lived closer to you, you have so many training skills that hopefully would rub off if I stood near you I had never even heard of the Volhard system. I will google it now and have a read -

You have been given some great advice, I was like you and didn't have a clue but did know which breed I wanted. I went along to a show at Durack and introduced myself to the Qld Newfoundland breeder. That lead to a friendship that has now spanned seven years including helping her take six Newfoundlands to Adelaide and Sydney for shows. I now have my own Newf who is nine months old and we have been to about five shows and have gained our first points toward his championship. My breeder is not going to the shows at the moment but I haven't had any problem getting advice from people at the show.I do have a mentor that is in another state but I ring her when I have any questions. I know a Qld breeder of Samoyed's and yes they are a lot of work grooming them for the show ring. I am showing my Newfoundland at Durack on the 4th and 18th of February, both shows start at 4pm you are welcome to come and have a chat. If Denise ( that breeds samoyed's ) is there I can introduce you to her, her daughter also shows poodles. We have seven shows in March so if you can't make February you might be able to get to one of those. It is lots of fun, I keep trying to remind myself of that when my nerves take over as I enter the ring.

I have everything crossed here that Alvin will be home real soon, I had friends loose there 12 year old Beagle two weeks ago. They were frantic and did everything you have done and it turned out some kids had taken him back to there house. The annoying part is it took the parents two days to ring the number on his collar. (because they had no phone credit) I have my fingers crossed you will be telling us a happy ending story like my friends. I have put Alvin on my face book page, the more people looking the better.

Great answers so far, I just wanted to say I hope you get it sorted out real soon. ( I would love to see a photo) ;) I have been lucky my Newf is nine months and he is not a jumper thank goodness, I wouldn't want 56 kilos jumping up on me or my visitors.

We just brought the deluxe Oztrail one and the first time we used it my OH said this thing needs a vent in the roof to let the heat out. It was cooler to sit outside the awning instead of under it, so for that reason alone the Bunnings ones sound good.
