  4. Beautiful photos, beautiful dogs
  5. We had to take my mum aged 77 to the Dr ( whoops nearly said vet )last week to have a tick removed from her neck. They live in a town house here on the Gold Coast so you would think tick safe. I am heading to Murwillumbah for three days of dog showing on Thursday so I will make extra care to do tick treatment and keep an eye on him. Its a known tick area and a number of dogs got ticks last time we were there. Its not easy to find a tick thou on a Newfoundland
  6. I sat down last night and filled in all my details, thanks for the tip
  7. Just beautiful and huge hugs to your friend for turning Riley's life around she is stunning
  8. Is this what you are after? http://www.topdogs.com.au/categories/Dog-Bike-Attachment/
  9. I am in QLd on the Gold Coast and he copes fine, he just stays inside on the tiles when it gets hotter. There are quite a few Newfoundlands here and three breeders not far from me. The added problem I have is our Jack Russell, he has happily lived with the cat ( a chinchilla persian) for nearly nine years. But now when the Newf looks like chasing her the Jack will go in for the kill. It happened one day when I had all the dogs in my front yard not realising the cat was in the garden. Well she took off up onto a window sill and Skipper jumped up and tried to pull her down. If I was not there I am sure they would have killed her. So the cat has all the house except the kitchen /family room and she gets to sleep on our bed. We have put a new cat door in our garage so she can come and go via the front yard. The dogs have the run of the back yard and the only time she goes out the back is if I have the Newf away at a show. We have had the cat for ten years so want to make sure she doesn't get hurt in any way. Its not the most ideal way to live but I don't know how to fix it thats why I will be watching your thread very closely
  10. Your not alone with this problem, I have to keep my 15 moth old Newfoundland away from my cat and that means the cat misses out on family time. He was raised with cats from birth until four months but when he came to me he started chasing the cat because she wouldn't fight she just ran away. Now he is 60 kilos so no match for a 4kilo cat Good luck in solving your problem
  11. As the others have said diet and the way they are raised in that crucial first year makes a huge difference in your large breeds health. For example, don't let your puppy rough house with older dogs of the same size. They might look like a good match but your large puppy is very fragile at this stage. No jumping especially in or out of the car, be careful on tile floors or any slippery service. Raise their feed and water bowls so they don't have to bend down so far. Don't go on huge walks, a good rule of thumb is if your puppy is ten weeks old no more then ten minutes, 15 weeks old 15 minutes and so on. All your flea and worming treatment is far more expensive and health insurance is a must unless you have a huge income. Depending on breed it might also drool. Having said all that, a giant breed is just the best
  12. Brilliant photos, I would love to be able to achieve what you have in these photo's especially the last two
  13. I think I read that the dog was to vicious for anyone to get near so I don't think his future is looking to good. I wish they could find the owner and lock them in a small cage and see if they like it. B@#@#ards :mad
  14. Have you brought all the essentials, Food bowl, water container, lead, collar, ( unless he comes with these) buy the food that he is already on so no upset tummies. Unless your flat mates are experienced with a large breed dog I wouldn't use that option. Is there any way you could leave him with the breeder and just pay them a boarding fee? I think its a two week wait after vaccination before you can put a dog into boarding kennels. I bet you are so excited, I hope it just all falls into place and you have great holiday and come home to your beautiful boy.
  15. http://www.bedsfortails.com.au/index.htm Is this the place you are talking about? Sorry I am in Qld but thought the link might help.
  16. So glad you and your dog were ok, I had an incident last week when I was out walking two of my dogs. I had a kelpie come running around the corner straight at my dogs, eventually the owner came wandering down the road. When I said to her one of my dogs is not dog friendly so would she mind keeping her dog on a lead, she yelled at me and told me my dog should be muzzled. I was so mad, my dog was under control on a lead, these people make me so mad. I hope you find out where the dog lives and can report them before someone gets hurt
  17. Do you have a shopping centre near by with an under cover car park, not sure if its legal but I have walked my dogs around each level of the car park. Its not very exciting but at least its a walk.
  18. I should have read the whole thread first :) Snap
  19. I have made my own table but it was made for a Newfoundland so you might want to tone the measurements down a bit Go to Bunnings and buy 17mill plywood Pyamid matting ( I got blue) Quick grip glue Aluminium angle This was not easy to find the right one, we glued and screwed it around the edge. Bunnings also sold the folding legs that hold I think 180kilos We made the table 700wide x 1300 long x 600 high. The legs we brought were to high so i had them cut down at a local engineering firm.. I use this table to take to the dog shows and I have a different one at home.
  20. God I thought I was bad This year for us 10 (May) 9 (April) 9 (Nov) 8 (March) 1 ( March) I went a bit crazy with the first four and got them all not long after the other, my Newf is a long awaited dream dog who has definitely livened things up at home.
  21. Beautiful dogs and obviously very loved
  22. If your vet is prepared to write the script you can do what I did and brought Atopica for my dog from California pet pharmacy. I can get a packet with 15 tablets for $25 compared to $100 here. The vet had to fill out particular information that they wanted on the script but it all went through without a problem. I emailed them the script.
