Need Advice For New Doggy Door For Giant Breed
mish13 replied to mish13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Mish13 Our lounge room faces the back yard and we have floor to ceiling windows with a glass sliding door that leads to the back yard .WE tried many manufacturers but they all said the same thing No ...... because of security purposes they dont make them so people can get in so we decided to make our own .We went and bought a length of laminated chipboard which went from ceiling to floor and fitted in to sliding door slot It was a about $20 a sheet. We measured height of Isaiah and width and used jigsaw to cut out a section so he could walk through them we got some heavy duty plastic and stapled it to laminated chipboard and it worked well It was white and could be wiped down easily. We just had the door open or shut as the door slid to the chipboard or we coulf put the chipboard in the security door section and still walk through the door way I hope this gives you an idea I wish I had a photo for you but as Isaiah is with us all the time and has free reign thru the house We dont use that doggy door now Goodluck Jenny (Victoria) Thanks Jenny I will get my husband to read your post and see if he could do the same, I am running out of time before he no longer fits in the current one. -
Need Advice For New Doggy Door For Giant Breed
mish13 replied to mish13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for that but I had found that web site but the door they show with a great dane walking through it is too small. ahhh I see now ...you need it made bigger ! do you belong to a dog club ? might find someone there who fixes the equipment to do it a little cheaper for you. There was a crew who made big pet doors ...maybe they are the ones suggested above this post. We have French doors not ranch sliders but even so it took me ages to work out what to do. I have just joined a dog club so I will ask next Tuesday night when I go, thanks for the tip. -
I have a Sony A850 with a $2,000 Zeis lens and I dont get quality photos like that, maybe its the person behind the camera. ;)

Need Advice For New Doggy Door For Giant Breed
mish13 replied to mish13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you for the suggestions so far, enpinay2 I love that saying. I thought I would throw in a couple of photos of what I currently have, I was just looking at making this dog flap half again in height and half again in width. I cant find anyone willing to do it at this stage. I did look at the bunnings giant door but it was $399.00 so thought I would do a bit more research before spending that sort of money. -
I like my dogs to have access into my family room/ kitchen, I have a gate to stop them entering the rest of the house. I currently have a large doggy door that my standard poodle gets through and my six month old Newfoundland can just get through. I have been looking at options to increase the size of the door so Grizzly can get through when he is fully grown. The obvious thing was to go back to the company that cut the one in that I have now which is just a swinging flap of perspex. They have said due to the size of what I want they wont do it because they don't think the hinges would last. Has anyone on here put in a doggy door for a giant breed dog, and yes I do realise that people can get through. Any advice would be very welcome

I would love to know what that camera and Lens is if you don't mind sharing.

Great pictures but I especially love the colour in the first shot, I have a DSLR but never get brilliant colour like this.

Hi Henrietta25, sorry I don't have any suggestions but just wanted to wish you all the best with your dog and I hope someone on here can help you. I have a dog with an auto immune disease so I can sympathise with you.

Urgent Foster Carer Required - Please Help

Have replied on your other thread -
Big hugs to you both, that would be so hard to take when your dog was only a puppy still. One thing comes to mind could she have eaten anything like snail bait, have you put any new plants in? Friends of mine lost a young dog when they got some new plants from a nursery and they didn't know they had a toxic fertiliser on them. They had a sheltie that ate the plant and was dead within hours. I hope you find out what happened.

I brought a single tub with a heater for $600 about eight years ago and it has been worth its weight in gold. I don't need a double tank or the heater because we had a plumber pipe hot water to right beside my hydro bath. I found mine advertised in the local paper.

I picked up my Newfoundland two weeks ago will send you a pm.

From my experience not everyone gets back to you, I guess they probably get heaps of emails so don't get around to answering them all. Out of the approximately 15 I sent I got about six replies.Do they have phone numbers listed on the web sites if they do maybe give them a call. Dont give up the right breeder and puppy is out there for you, just one more thing have a look in here in the breed specific threads and see if there is one on your chosen breed. If there is you could go in there and ask questions. Good luck

What Is Your Favourite Time Of Day With Your Dog/s?
mish13 replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
My favourite time of the day is after dinner at night when my five all curl up on their beds in my family room and start snoring. I said to my hubby the other night, this is my idea of heaven to be surrounded by happy contented dogs. -
You were game letting him sleep on your bed, my boy sleeps on the kitchen tiles to stay cool so I also agree that he was to hot on your bed. Is the outside where he sleeps under cover? If yes I think he would be fine, if its not under cover you will need to get some sort of cover built to keep him out of the rain. I don't think he would go in a kennel again that would be to hot. I would love to see an updated photo, my Newf Grizzly is now five months and keeps me on my toes.

I agree that is beautiful, what a great present

GSD girl your puppy is just drop dead gorgeous, I used to have shepherds over 25 years ago and still have a soft spot for them.
-
Thanks Jaybeece, I will stick with them because I have seen a few other Newfoundland people use them so they must find them ok. I wouldn't be game to have a Newf without insurance. I never insured my poodles and now I am paying the price with one of them having an auto immune disease.

This thread has me concerned because I just joined up with petplan for my Newfoundland puppy under the highest cover. My vet suggested Medibank private or RACQ as being the easiest that they deal with. I didn't go with either of them because they didn't have the same cover as petplan, my only negative is they class a Newfoundland as a senior at 7 so the cover drops to 65% instead of 100%

Thanks Katie P, we had forgotten how bad he looked so I am glad I have these photos to be able to see the difference.

Sorry to go off topic Oscar has Sebaceous Adenitis, he had four punch biopsies done under a general to be diagnosed. It kills the hair foliccles so the hair dies and goes brown, I have seen some really bad cases on line. For now we have Oscar under control with meds. This is before meds when he had the biopsy After meds
