We use the same for our BC, he actually still has the same collar as when he was a puppy - it still fits with plenty of room, we where worried since we have bought 2 other collars but he just paws at them with his hind leg and wont stop still his original one is returned, but the vet and dog trainers says there is ample room (can fit four fingers under it and they say its on right if you can fit 2 or 3)

have a look at the following site http://www.babynameworld.com/celtic.asp sure there baby names - but the meanings are rather nice

sounds like most people already covered this when we brought home our little one, we didnt have in our room (i know cruel), he slept in the study we made sure he had a warm bed, water, put down butchers paper incase we didnt get up in time, we also set alarm for about every 2 hours to let him out to toilet, we also had a wind up clock wrap in a old tshirt of mine which i had done the lawns in (ie smelt lol), he seemed to get comfort out of having the tshirt and clock next to him a few times he wouldnt sleep so i just layed next to him until he fell asleep, try not to give into his crying i know its hard but they have to learn how to settle and sleep just like a bub

30 minutes is rather reasonable, when our BC had his vacc's we where in there for at least 30-40 minutes, he had vaccines, general check up, and then a chat about any concerns etc that we had it i was in and out in 5 minutes and not able to ask any questions i wouldnt be too impressed, as im technically paying for the vaccination and annual checkup (tho they dont charge for the time just the vaccines) generally walk out paying between 80 and 120, to me thats fair our boy is generally pretty health and maybe goes up to the vet once or twice a year in addition to the check up (but thats always turns out to be me just worrying about things and they dont charge)

 can someone come up with a reason why a network admin requires there bc at work i tried to argue once he could fetch cables in the server room but they where not convinced LOL

Was just talking to a friend at work about one of her dogs and some surgery that is required her vet actually suggested VetPay, basically its a credit line of up to $2000 which you can pay back over 3, 6 or 12 months sure you will pay interest on the loan amount, but it is one of the family and i think i would do anything i could to help our boy www.vetpay.com.au

What's The Most Ridiculous Thing Your Dog's Been Called?
auir replied to ~Rumour~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
our red and white BC has been called a wolf (wtf he is red and white to begin with), a fox (okay color at least semi right) i have also been told he isnt a bc at all he must be something completely different as bc are only black and white (this was a 5 minute lecture from some old guy on the beach and i should know my dog better apparently lol) -
there are quite a few in wollongong, mc cauleys isnt too bad but council is currently considering changing the rules here is the link to all the beaches and times dogs are allowed on the beach http://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/council/h...eaches2010.aspx

Hi All This is something that i have been wondering about for quite some time, i have asked my vet a few times but they say its not an issue / nothing needs to be done. I have a red BC, when he was a little pup he had a black nose, but over the last 2 years it has gone more of a pinky / brown / skin color (not a good discription i know) My question has always been does he need some sort of sunscreen / zinc for his nose?? He never gets any spots or anything that appears to be sunburn, infact he is alot smarter than me during the sunny parts of the day he plays under a tree in the back yard and only goes into the direct sun when he wants to chase his basket ball or something like that. The other red and whites in our area all have black noses and the other dogs i see around with similar color nose dont appear to have sort of cream or zinc on them either. So as i write this im figuring its just me being OTT. Attached is a pic of him from the begining of the year (might help with the color description) Cheers

around my local area i see alot of people using halti's even on really small dogs we have a bc, he is good on a flat collar he does pull a little bit for about the first few minutes of a walk but that coz he is generally uber excited about going out near my work i have a seen a chi with a harness on - think it was more fashion (it was pink with fake jewels on it) then function tho LOL

you know what i find weird, i live in Wollongong, our council recently changed the rules for dogs on the beach so things are alot better but one thing that always frustrates me is there is a couple of people that have horses in my area, they take them down the beach for a walk and run through the water and on the sand, now they crap in waters edge and on the sand, but do they have to pick it up?? (fair enough there would be like a buckets worth). My issue is do people write into the papers complaining about this when there is 100% failure rate to clean up after the horse, nooo, they ring or write to the paper to complain about dogs which i find generally 99% of people around my area are responsible and pick up after there dogs end of rant for the day ;)

our BC is desexed but i have never been able to find a tatt in his ear tho, so i guess its not mandatory
-
have to be careful with COTD it had me tricked the first time they had these for sale about 4 months ago, i missed it and i really annoyed considering the price, it wasnt until it came available again when they had a 24 hr sale last month, any to the point COTD is a Fur-Eliminator not a furminator - i have seen a fur-eliminator at a junk store and it did look same design but looked like rubbish cheers

Hi I have read the previous posts on dogs that suddenly become afraid of thunder and im pretty sure i know why (but could be wrong), but more so after some advice on what i can do not to encourage the behavior. Over the past week there has been 2 or 3 thunder storms and our BC has started barking and running around gruffing etc when the thunder starts, he is about 20months old and never done this until this week. We do have a 5 month old baby at home now as well, of which he is very protective of (so i figure he is doing it to scare the thunder away from the house???), also at the end of last summer some new dogs moved into the street and these appear to be very afraid of storms (there is about 4 or 5 of them and they all go nuts at the first crack of thunder) so could he be learning the behavior them (there like 3 house down but he can hear them going nuts and as pup he use to get stressed when he could hear the another neighbors dog crying). Anyway, he is okay once he is distracted or asked to do something else but i don't want to encourage the behavior. So what am i best to do? He does come into the front of the house regularly but that is more a reward, he is allowed into the sun room whenever the door is open tho, so by letting him into the front of the house for barking and carrying on am i rewarding him for letting him into the lounge room? I played and did some training with him in the garage and the back room to distract him while the heaviest part of the thunder was happening and he was okay. He was also okay if he wanted to go bark at the storm and i told him no and to come back he would. Is there a particular order i should follow? Ie, so if the thunder starts and he starts barking i guess the right thing would be to ask him to stop, then once he is settled then do something to distract him such as patting, playing etc? any suggestions or ideas would be great cheers

Hi All Incase anyone visits the area or any locals havent seen the paper or the news. Council approved its purposal to allow dogs on more beaches. http://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/council/m...ks%20Policy.pdf The PDF above has all the new Green Zones (off leash) - i think one up at coledale was removed so be careful if you continue to go there since apparently they are increasing the number of rangers to enforce the new policy. Orange zones (on leash permitted at certain times). And of course Red Zones (not permitted) Cheers

PetBarn use to sell the Karlie Action Balls (same as the soccer ball a few posts above) which came in a soccer ball or basket ball. Our BC has the basketball one, but since has chewed the ropes off so now he just has a basket ball which he plays soccer with (he has a soccer ball but as far as he is concerned it just stupid to play soccer with a soccer ball lol)
-
we use a cypress pine mulch, our bc use to try and chew on it when he was a pup but he since grew out of that as someone else said the stronger the smell the more interest they will have to it although our mulch does look nice, he did eat all the trees that where planted in the garden beds which have the mulch LOL

the photo you previously had done would be the IP of the photographer or the agency they worked for so they can re-use it as they see fit same thing happened to a friend of mine but instead of a pic of there dogs it was one of from his wedding, they ended up in a magazine advert for a formal hire place lol

I got mine from bunnings as well, very easy to install as the other user said they come with a template all you need is a drill, screw driver, tape measure (so you can centre it), a pen level (level around the size of a highligher cost about $2 @ bunnings) and a jigsaw think all up it cost me around 100$, which was for dog door and cheapo jigsaw cheers

Is It Common For The Price Of Pups To Go Up Depending On Demand?
auir replied to Fleuri's topic in General Dog Discussion
seems a bit strange price should be the same for show or pet, from what i have read previously on here its hard to tell if a pup will be suitable for show at 8 weeks old so in the end shouldnt they be charging for a healthy puppy with good parents (ie genetic conditions not present etc) i would look else where -
Just wondering if any one could recommend a dog groomer in the illawarra (wollongong) area? not necessarily hair cut, more so just someone who is really good at brushing and knows how to keep my bc happy while getting brushed - he normally has about 15 minute patience window so i try to brush him in intervals but lately his coat is dropping more and he is becoming more fussy about being brushed. Or alternatively if no one has any suggestions for a dog groomer, any one got any advice on keeping him entertained while brushing? We have tried bribery but soon as the food is gone he decides he has enough and wants to go run around. We have tried toys but he is not interested in them while getting brushed. Tried praising him but that seems to only work for short period of time and not enough brushing gets done. Cheers

i would take it as your dog didnt like the other person or was unwary of them and just didnt want them getting near you our bc does similar, well sort of, he loves everyone he meets wants to be patted and acknowledged, but occasionally when out walking he very wary of some random people, he either wont want to walk in the direction that would result in them crossing each others path or focuses on them and has to constantly re-check what there doing (ie look back to make sure they havent increased pace, crossed the road etc) until he has a decent distance between us and them. Also he has become a pain (not really) when the OH comes walking as well, he doesnt trust anyone then, he becomes very protective must walk next to her, must watch everyone infront of us, behind us, on the other side of the road. Never barks or snarls, or anything like that but just watches everyone and whenever anyone gets close he will swap sides (if necessary) so he is between them and her. Tho this only started once the OH was around 20 weeks pregant so maybe that has something to do with it.

Willow i have taken my friend seriously hence the post, trying to get some advice for him. So i dont understand what your snide little remark is about? Time to hope of the high horse mate. I was asking others for advice so i dont see how that is not taking the matter serious. He does feel bad about the situation hence he was talking about it and asking my advice, i had none besides getting padlocks and not replacing the animals. I dont understand completely why the animls have been replaced, if it was me then i would not be replacing them, i have given up on trees myself, but i would assume it would in attempt to cheer the kids back up - yes i know very negative cycle. Read it again please...the post said would YOUR FRIEND take this more seriously....nothing was said about you. Clearly you HAVE taken it seriously because you posted on here. From what you have written is would seem your frinds is not taking this as seriously as he needs to. sorry my bad, in a crappy mood today and saw your post after a crap meeting sorry once again

Hi All Thanks for the feedback, i was thinking that was more so the case some dogs just dont get along with other pets. Wasnt sure if there was any desensitising (cannt spell) training he could suggest and hopefully he try. And thank you for answering the question, i was worried that i would get attitude since other animals had been killed and some would take that negatively. dyzney - yup that was my advice so far, not replace the rabbits or guinea pigs, he had been getting new rabbits and guinea pigs after each incident hoping things would get better. In regards to listening? hmm doubt it, been asking for a while how did the pup go with vaccinations, registration, training but nothing happens. But i guess that comes down to we all keep our pets differently. darlingdog - similar suggestion so far, i said maybe get some weather proof padlocks for the hutches that way no one can one the door accidently and let them out without you being around (ie incase the kids want to play with the rabbit or guinea pigs) plus the dog wouldnt be able to get through the opening Thanks to all that replied
