  1. Also, there is definitely something in the water that he wants. It looks exactly like a ball. If it isn't a ball, what is it?
  2. Nope, not aggressive for all the reasons already stated. That's just a stafford! They tend to have that guttural growly tone to their barks too.
  3. I'm sorry for your loss Holly's Mummy. I'm sure you grew to love her in her time with you and you can rest easy knowing you did absolutely everything for her. I admire your strength.
  4. Jesus christ, that poor dog. Of course the majority won't hear any of that. It will be remembered as it was FIRST reported. A vicious pit bull attack. It couldn't be further from that
  5. Yes dog was initially being reported as a pit bull and once they figured out it wasn't they stopped reporting it and then just left it without a breed. Typical. Dog attacks only matter when perpetrated by a particular breed. I hope the poor man recovers swiftly. How horrible.
  6. Kizzy, you can still report the dog and situation to the Council. Ring your local Council and tell them what happened and the situation with the group trying to rehome the dog, they will investigate and of they feel it is appropriate, will declare the dog dangerous. This will mean that the dog cannot be rehomed.
  7. The owner was irresponsible but that is no excuse to shoot a dog in the head on a suburban property! From the article it implies the dog was found at home, does that mean they came over to their address and shot the dog? Or the dog dragged itself home? Either way it's horrible.
  8. Yes, if you want to stop the rescue from rehoming this dog (especially without disclosure!!) this is the only way to go about it.
  9. Vets aren't automatically 'approved premises', they have to apply for that status and thus be legally able to hold stray animals, so they are correct in what they are saying unfortunately, but it just shows they don't care because they haven't applied to be an approved premises.
  10. There are hardly any threads about the APBT in comparison to most threads that go awry on this forum. It's clear that you have an issue with the breed, but if you keep constantly bringing them up, especially in threads like this with no relevance whatsoever you will find you sometimes get responses you aren't happy with. I've never seen anyone be rude to you, only try and explain that your perception is incorrect and based on emotion rather than fact. There are plenty of breeds I don't like and I'd never own. But I wouldn't be so rude as to constantly bring them up and not only attack the dogs but the owners as you now have.
  11. Bull breeds tend to play with every dog as if it's their best friend and they've loved together for years. Sounds like your neighbour is on top of it which is great, you just don't necessarily want your pup learning the 'bull breed way' because not many other breeds (other than typically labs and a couple of others) tend to enjoy it! If you're interrupting it before it gets too crazy and getting the pups to settle down and keeping an eye on them I wouldn't think itd be an issue :)
  12. This forum IS hilarious. Tree Hugging Greenie.. My definition. My words, for those who criticise ethical breeders for everything they do. Damned if a breeder does, Damned if a breeder doesn't. I have no issue of breeders putting to sleep their white boxers, if they feel they need to do this. As long as it is done humanely and for the right reasons. At the end of the day, they have to live with those decisions. Wuffles: I could don't care if you agree with me or not. You have your opinion, I have mine. I have produced half white faced puppies and I BAER tested them. If they were deaf, they would have been put to sleep. I have put to sleep puppies as old as 3 weeks and even put to sleep a 14 month dog I bred and later rescued back. Better I did it than the pound. Just because YOUR dog is not deaf, and it was from normally marked parents, and IS allowed in the standard, does not necessarily benchmark everything else for those in the Boxer breed. I'm a bit confused. This thread established that breeders know the combination that produces white boxers. Can't the whole pts thing be avoided in the first place by not breeding that combination? How is it responsible to deliberately breed together two dogs knowing deaf dogs may well be the end result? Shouldn't the breed club dictate should not to pts white boxers but not breed for them in the first place? As Ms Hanson put it so aptly, please explain? The only way to avoid the chance of white pups completely in boxers is to never breed flashy dogs. The dogs that show well are almost always flashy. Flashy x flashy = about a 1 in 4 chance of a white pup. In addition, some genetically flashy boxers do not show full flashy markings (white on the face and collar) due to modifiers, but may have only stockings. If bred to another flashy dog there will still be the same risk of producing white pups as any other flashy to flashy mating. So if you're a breeder who shows, your breeding stock is likely to mostly be flashy because that is what does well in the ring. You have the choice of keeping some plain dogs around, knowing that they probably won't be successful show dogs, or take the risk of white puppies. Given the limitations on numbers of dogs a breeder can keep these days, the choice to risk white pups is, unfortunately, often the more practical one. Incidentally, a plain dog mated to a white will always produce nice flashy markings. So maybe the show ring attitude should change? This kind of thing is what is going to cause severe restrictions on pedigree dogs. It is NOT ok to knowingly breed in a way that produces pups that will be euthanased at birth.
  13. I agree here with Perry. Beautiful dog and clearly well loved but if you love in Voctoria he could easily be qualified as a Pit Bull or Pit Bull mix. If he isn't registered please do so tomorrow as you run the risk of your beautiful boy being seized and killed.
  14. I agree, the dog looks too big to be a pure pit. Doesn't matter though, the breed will still get the blame. Poor police officers, that is just horrible.
  15. My black hawk should arrive this afternoon! Hoping it might make a difference to miss Cocoa chewing herself. Her coat etc is fine but she does chew.
  16. They aren't necessarily unregistered, they could be chipped & registered as something else and not have come under scrutiny by Council, or may have been breed assessed as having no pit bull or a pit x (which is not restricted if it passes a temp test). A dog is not restricted (and therefore needing to comply with restrictions) in NSW unless it has failed a breed assessment/temp test or been chipped as a pure bred American pit bull terrier.
  17. Declared Restricted Breed dogs also must have the 'Warning, Dangerous Dog' sign. Unregistered dogs of any breed owned by morons are a problem.
  18. These are amazing! I'm shocked by the changes in some breeds. I'm only on the first page but it's unbelievable how different Great Danes are. ETA: Early Boxers looked more like APBT today!
  19. I think it's more that a pitbull and unpapered Amstaff are fairly indistinguishable. Add in there that many bull breed or Amstaff crosses will look VERY similar to a Pit Bull and you've got a recipe for disaster. Pure Pit Bulls would likely be identified as such by anyone in the know - the problem is that all unpapered Amstaffs and bull breed mixes get lumped in and targeted too.
  20. I'm not having an opinion either way but I will point out that that cat would not have been recently hunted and held up as a 'prize'. It's on a string because it is a carcass that is being used for TRAINING the dog to pick up the scent. They use the string to drag it through the grass for the dog to follow and to reward the dog in the end by allowing it to interact with the body. Yes it's not nice, but that's what has to be done to train the dog to follow the scent. ETA: You can see that the body looks 'hollow', that's because all the internal organs etc have been removed. They are using the skin and head to train the dog.
