  1. Hi all, Hoping you can shed some light on whether this is something that needs further investigation. I've noticed that probably over the last 3-4 weeks, Cocoa's jaw on (I think) her left side is clicking (popping sound) quite loudly every time she yawns. It doesn't seem to hurt her or bother her, but I'm noticing it and never did before so I'm assuming it's something new. No idea if it's related or not or even something worth asking about but I also noticed today that I could feel the glands in her neck quite easily. I have no idea if this is new or I've just only noticed it now. She's a 17 month old Amstaff/Pit Bull type dog (probably not pure, from the pound), so therefore has a short coat so it's easy to feel these things. Should I be able to feel her glands?
  2. I've been reading this avidly Rach and my god I'm hoping for the best possible outcome. Things are sounding good though!!
  3. I really don't know why people get up in arms about these threads. It's a bit of fun and like you said, helpful for people that have to put a breed on their Council rego/chip. I think general as they will get the most views from people. If you don't want to read them, don't click on the thread! It's not that hard...
  4. Yep from that front on pic I'd say definitely a Mal. Good luck!!
  5. What a magnificent photograph Krislin.
  6. If its coastal paws rescue PM Roguedog the link- I think she is part of coastal paws
  7. Same :D Hopefully Bruno and Cocoa can behave like good little bull breed ambassadors  Did they ask for vacc certificates? I've never ever been asked if mine were vaccinated? Unless its on the entry form, I cant remember? I've been to both Melbourne (Albert Park)and Ballarat (entering both online and on the day) and have never seen/heard mention of vaccinations either. It doesnt mention vaccination certs needing to be sighted when registering. I'll be going in Homebush this Sunday with my little Frenchie... I am taking her as she loves meeting new dogs and is great for her socialisation. Oh yay, I'll be the person that accosts you saying "I love Frenchies" :D (While Mel is left in charge of the two boofheads!)
  8. When I lived in WA I did an experiment, because I was sick of all the biased reporting of dog attacks. I rang 7, 9 & 10 to say that I was attacked by a dog, the first thing they asked me was if it was a Pitbull, when I said no it definitely wasn't a Pitbull, they said it could have been a cross though, trying to goad me into saying it was, when I again said no it wasn't, they suddenly lost interest & said that it wasn't newsworthy. Even though I know this to be what happens it still enrages me to hear it first hand!
  9. If it was my own dog I'd want to know if this was playful 'mouthing' or if the nipping is out of fear or aggression. If I was rescuing it - I'd probably PTS. There's too many good Amstaffs and Pits out there and even if it was a mouthy thing how can you re-train this behaviour without putting children at risk? The last thing our breeds need is more bad publicity. As sad as it is you've gotta think about the bigger picture.
  10. Gorgeous! I'm a sucker for short coated, red dogs.
  11. Really? I thought that is was only WA that didn't recognise declarations made interstate, I thought that NSW, VIC, QLD all worked togther to stop people sending dogs across borders to avoid decalaration? Or does that only work after the dog is declared? It would be easy for anyone under investigation to send their dog interstate for a short break if that is all it takes to avoid having a dog declared. I'm going by the wording in the CAA which states: Different states have different regulations for a dangerous dog and different criteria for declaring them so this would make sense. I guess they could possibly declare them dangerous and if they re-entered NSW the declaration would come into force? I haven't ever actually dealt with a situation like this so I'm just interpreting the wording of the act. The other problem here is the Council may not have enough actual evidence for a declaration. It's hard when it's a 'she-said, he-said' investigation and if they don't have proof that this particular dog killed the other particular dog then it'd be hard to go with a declaration.
  12. Just an FYI - Council can't declare the dog dangerous if it's been adopted out to Victoria. Dangerous Dog declarations only apply within NSW. I would hazard that Pound Rounds know this hence sending the dog interstate.
  13. Ruthless Ruthless Ruthless!! I've seen them so many times in real life and yet my breath is still taken away every time. They are MAGNIFICENT.
  14. Oh my lord... those poor, poor babies. Just horrific. Thank you so much for helping them. Please keep us updated on their progress.
  15. I hope that wasn't aimed at me, I haven't got a problem with anyone here saying they wouldn't own a pit bul/staffy, they certainly aren't the dog for everyone and there's lots of breeds I wouldn't own too! I wish less people would own them! Lol I did question dogmad on the use of the word 'unstable' though and I've noticed you've used it too.. I'm interested to know what both you and her mean by that? Again, I'm not attacking, just interested.
  16. Could you expand on what you mean by 'unpredictable temperament' Dogmad? Dog aggression, sure, we all know it can be a part of the breed, but I'm not sure what you mean by the above?
  17. Favourites are the bull breeds, particularly a lean but well muscled APBT (I'm a sucker for the red colour/red nosed combo too, just think it looks magnificent), then Amstaff, then SBT... Least favourites have been Lakeland Terriers and Welsh Terriers, as I've only met a couple of dogs of each breed and really disliked them. Happy for my mind to be changed though. There's lots of other breeds that I don't dislike at all but would never own as they just don't suit me... Labs, the working breeds etc. And there are other dogs that I love but I'd never own because I can't handle the short average lifespan (Danes, Bernese Mountain Dogs)
  18. How silly. I have three animals at my house. Two are foster failures (although one I kinda knew from the start was staying  ). I've moved on two others and there's another kitten at my house now. I love him to death and if I only had one cat I'd keep him, but I know that I don't need a third cat and I'm just happy that his life was saved and he'll find a lovely family. If they've failed three in a row then maybe... But one foster failure? How silly.
  19. I'll be going but only because I have a free ticket and it's really the kind of step up for my rescue dog's socialisation training that is needed (She gets very over excited when she sees other dogs - I've got her pretty good in the street and small- med training classes now so a big group like that will be the next test for her). If I didn't have a free ticket I wouldn't be going - Until RSPCA NSW change some of their policies and improve their kill rates they won't get a penny from me.
  20. I much prefer a dumb dog - I've got the skills to keep on top of an intelligent dog if need be but I prefer not to have to!!
  21. I can leave food on the coffee table at face height, or on the bench with no problems, but I had just put the plastic bag with all the meat juices from her bones in the bin, I think that was just too much for her!! LOL It took about ten minutes to get it off and she completely freaked out.. she's scared of the bin lid now so that's a good outcome!!
  22. While I don't vaccinate annually and agree that it is complete overkill, I think the underlying tone of the article (to not vaccinate ever) is really irresponsible. I also rolled my eyes when in the first paragraph they spoke about the child who was given brain damage by the MMR vaccine. There is no link between the two, studies have shown this - so I had my skeptical hat on while reading. Don't over-vaccinate sure, but to suggest no vaccines at all is completely irresponsible.
  23. Hahahahhaha oh Grumpette, you aren't the only one!!! This happened about a week ago.....
