  1. From what you've said it doesn't sound like his behaviour was out of line. If the other dog was barking and snapping at him he has a right to defend himself, Cocoa did the same thing today.
  2. Cocoa reacted to a dog going her today for the first time, she is 18 months old so I'm not surprised or concerned. She was meeting the dog on leash and she was being very calm and appropriate. The dog went her, and she barked back and kind of air snapped. I don't blame her, the other dog was really out of line and she didn't carry on and was happy to then lie down a meter from her at the cafe for an hour. She also met another two dogs very appropriately after that. Once they start hitting the 12-18mo mark they tend to stand up for themselves a little more. Without seeing the other dog's behaviour it's hard to say if gus was being appropriate. What did the other dog do immediately preceding him reacting?
  3. While I don't necessarily condone Council's not coming out unless the animal is contained, I can completely understand it. Of probably 30+ calls I've had that 'there's a dog wandering on X street', I've managed to find the dog once. Even if you jump straight in the car and go, realistically it's going to take you ten minutes to get there and that is a hell of a lot of time for a dog to travel. You go out, you drive around all the surrounding streets and then you go back because the dog is long gone. So I can completely understand why some Council's are doing that now.
  4. It's even harder to find that exact foster home too. But if you don't ask, you don't get. And if there's a chance that person or Rescue Group is out there, then it may just help a dog. I think it's worth realising what Plan B is actually saying here. He's not talking about rehoming the dog or even taking the dog on at this point. He is cautiously listening to what his behaviourist has told him and what others have said and enquiring as to whether there is anywhere suitable for this dog to go to be further assessed and/or retrained. If none of those things line up he will not be rescued and/or rehomed. I don't think there is a big problem here?
  5. This. Also, I'm 4 foot 11 high and 56 kilos and have never, ever been pulled over by a dog, let alone something as small as a Kelpie. Big dogs can be managed well with the correct training and tools (if needed), and staying tuned in to their behaviour so they don't catch you by surprise, to ensure they aren't pulling anyone over.
  6. Mine arrived today! Couldn't find anywhere high enough to hang it from and she doesn't seem to interested, I had to really, really rev her up to get her to tug it. She doesn't realise the food is falling out of it either
  7. You know M-Sass - I agree with you 100% that the people breeding pit bulls and unpapered bull breeds in Victoria are f**king morons. Agree 100%. Anyone who would bring a dog into the world that could meet the standard is not doing it for the dogs. But that doesn't mean I won't keep fighting for the poor dog that doesnt deserve to die because of the size of its head. And it certainly doesn't mean I'll just say 'oh well, pit bulls Are banned and that's the law' and then denigrating the people who are against the laws when these dogs are being killed like you seem to do. It makes me want to fight even harder to overturn these laws because then we WILL have some great breeders breeding again. And dogs will not be killed because of their appearance.
  8. I am under the impression it's perfectly legal to breed APBT's in Canberra & NT - unless things have changed recently?? Yep! Plus, banning things increase demand. It's the wrong kind of demand, but it's demand nonetheless. Shit quality pups that would barely get 100 bucks before the bans now sell for $800-$1000.
  9. Yep!! Towilla were awesome as well but Steph isn't breeding anymore.
  10. TBH I don't know why I'm bothering to reply to you but I'll just make the point that a lot of us rescued our dogs. I don't support ANYONE breeding pit bulls while BSL exists. And they are my absolute favourite breed. My belief is that we fight and overturn the laws, then the people passionate about the breed can import new papered stock and start again. The fact of the matter is this is never going to happen. More people are breeding them now than ever before, as just like anything banned they are a black market item now. Those dogs who have been brought into the world through no fault of their own deserve a home just as much as any other if they are a nice dog with a good temperament. You come at BSL from completely the wrong angle and I agree, you don't sound like someone that loves dogs at the end of the day.
  11. "I am sorry but I just think Victoria is run buy a bunch of people who in days past would have been placed in a mental institution." Pretty much, GT, pretty much. I'm getting so tired of these articles, I'm running out of energy with it all. It's just insane.
  12. This thread is fantastic! So many gorgeous dogs!! Cocoa when she first came out of the pound - about 9 months. Cocoa now - about 17 months.
  13. Oh wow, the Boxers are gorgeous. Much more like the APBT is today. The Pom is much less extreme in coat. Love the look of the Dobie. Loved the waggy tail on the Pointer! Wow the Gordon looked so different.. and so much better. Can't stand the extreme way they look now The Airedale looks quite different. I like it! WOW AT THE BOSTON!! My lord, it looks like an APBT/SBT hybrid. What a change.. and in such a short amount of time.. Much prefer the Scotty too. Again, not so extreme.
  14. I saw on facebook! So happy for her, you and the owners
  15. I say that typically the APBT if bred correctly is very good with children. As a breed they have been specifically bred AGAINST human aggression, have a high pain threshold and touch insensitivity meaning they are less likely to react if a child pulls their tail or falls on them accidentally. HOWEVER as with any dog they must be supervised with children and children must be taught to respect and behave appropriately with dogs. Individuals in any breed may not be comfortable around children for a myriad of reasons so the dogs body language must always be watched (in any breed!)
  16. Why is sharing an opinion difference derailing a thread? It's my opinion that ANKC recognised breeds will not become restricted breeds reinforced by the Amstaff resolution as a test case to support my opinion. If anyone thinks that ANKC recognised breeds are vulnerable to restriction and need to support anti BSL regimes on that basis, good luck to them You do realize that in other areas of the world that have BSL, particularly in the states, American Staffordshre Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are also restricted or banned, papers or not? ETA: and in the states there are two registries that provide pedigrees to APBT and hold conformation shows?
  17. +1 I would PTS my dog before sending her there.
