  1. Gillbear do you have an estimate of costs to treat this little fella? Team Dog may be able to help with costs so she can keep him at home with her, if that's what is best for her. Feel free to put her in contact directly [email protected] or PM and I'll give you my number.
  2. Agree with you totally Aussie and it's not just Labs, although they seem to be the most extreme. I'm also disappointed with how fat Amstaffs are being shown these days too. A friend of mine keeps his dogs in fit working condition and other breeders are always commenting that they are too skinny etc on his facebook page.
  3. Hilarious pictures!! All so pathetic. Here's my sooky la la...
  4. This is a good example. Domestic dogs survive in our communities as a single species. You can't divide them. They are interdependent. If you do divide them by artificial lines they can't be antagonistic to each other. If you destroy one half you destroy both. Damage one half and the other suffers equaly. Domestic dogs and pedigree dogs are a single entity. They share their foundations. You say get a pedigree and no worries. If you allow this on the basis that it won't affect you, you are wrong. You just can't predict how. I suspect people will become even more irresponsible. If we let people think a breed can be inherently dangerous, regardless of how its raised and trained, Why Shouldn't they believe breed is responsible for a lot more. Any thing that takes handler responsibility. An "Its got nothing to do with me, I'm just the owner" mentality. You encourage that by your inaction and complacency. Unless you tell people otherwise, All they see is that every problem comes down to breed. Its the breed. But you let that pass because it doesn't affect your world. It does. You share the same foundations. You damage your foundations and undermine what you stand on. Not just some mysterious other half. Its all undermined. Then I suppose we will complain again of how "they", the public should take responsibility and learn more. Start agitating for compulsory dog owners licenses. And its already starting to get a bit too tedious to be bothered anymore. By By domestic dogs for a lot more people. Fewer still to Join ANKC. If you let your base be undermined, theres nothing to grow from. You won't see an ANKC breed added to BSL, not going to happen. I know it as do countless other owners of ANKC breeds with papers and corresponding chips. The only people that can't see it are those with generic brindle pound mutts, wannabe's without papers that owners refer to as Amstaffs and those who have come under council scrutiny. For those of us with ANKC registered animals, we have nothing to fear, DogNSW negotiated our freedom a long time ago when we distanced ourselves from the sinking Pitbull ship. So basically, your belief that an ANKC breed could never be subject to BSL, even though one already is and every other country that has had BSL has included KC-registered breeds, is based on arrogance and your feels. I hope for the dogs sake that you are right, but I think that you are very foolish. I also think that you are no friend of the dog seeing as you care for nothing but your own (and in fact many of your posts across the forum make me seriously question whether you are a dog lover at all - pedigree or not).
  5. It's not BSL and you know that. What are you talking about?? Of course it is. BSL stands for Breed Specific Legislation. Requiring Greyhounds - a specific breed - to be muzzled in public unless exempted is legislation that is breed specific. It is Breed Specific Legislation. How could it possibly not be?! ETA: and I'm pretty sure we are one of the only countries that has such laws for Greys.
  6. And if we really want to get technical, we've already got one ANKC registered breed subject to BSL - Greyhounds.
  7. Interested to know this too. Also interested if anyone knows what is required for a trainer to become accredited to do the test.
  8. What is your reasoning behind being so adamant that no ANKC breed will ever be added? Seeing as every other country that has implemented BSL has had at least one kennel club registered breed included... Because ANKC recognition implies breed eligibility for unrestricted keeping. Because of the amount of people owning the breed in sheer numbers enables the potential for a easily funded class action law suit to be initiated which the government would be unlikely to win as no ANKC recognised breeds have a breed standard defined as a threat to the community as a family pet. A handful of individual dogs non compliant with the breed standard won't shut down an entire breed to restrictions. So how come it's happened everywhere else?
  9. Love greys. Very happy for Benny, great work Brandiandwe!

  11. All I can say is that I don't understand the attitude of some in this thread that because their breed is recognised by the ANKC they will never have to worry about BSL. In every other country that has bsl, recognised breeds have been included. We are the only country that differentiates between the Amstaff and APBT when implementing BSL. In the States the SBT has always been included too. Of course I hope it never happens but I think it is very silly to sit back and ignore BSL because you have ANKC registered dogs. NSW was only recently (Nov 2013) created amendments to the Act that allows the minister to declare any breed as Menacing and thus subject to restrictions with the flick of a pen. The fact that they took the time to write this into the legislation implies that they either have a definite intention to do it or they think that it is likely or possible that they will.
  12. They aren't restricted in any of Australia and are not on the import ban either.
  13. I own Bullbreeds and I'm certainly not the kind of owner mentioned above but I do get what they're saying. When I take my dogs out in public they get a lot of attention and a lot of that attention is directed towards my male (I assume because he is more 'built' than his mum and is a nugget of muscle and looks tough) and its often from bogan type people. We also get a lot of interest from families as they are so good with kids but many are attracted to the look of them and I'm always quick to point out that they are a soft, sooky dog and couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag! I'm more concerned about the clueless owners who have no idea about dogs or their behaviours. I had a recent run in with a couple and their young, entire male GSD. He was displaying some very dominant behaviour towards my male Bulldog. I stopped the interaction as my dog was clearly uncomfortable and was trying to get away from the GSD and they became very upset and insisted that their dog was only playing. It's scary that people really can't see or recognise predatory and or aggressive behaviour in their dogs. So how do you know that these 'bogans' that are admiring your dog are irresponsible dog owners or like the look of your dog because they want to fight it? If they were wearing a suit would you still be so quick to point out that they were sooks and can't fight? Were the problem GSD owners 'bogans'? I notice you didn't mention their appearance. Something to think about. There are a lot of judgements and assumptions on your fellow human beings in your post...
  14. I don't think we can be so quick to say that. 'Bull Breed' encompasses at least three breeds and their crosses. The SBT is either 1st or 2nd most popular dog each year, and the AmStaff is usually about 6 or 7. Of course there won't be accurate stats on APBT but there are a few pure breds left. Add cross breeds and look alike cross breeds and that is an enormous amount of 'bull breeds' in this country. Far outweighing any other breed or type of dog. Statistically speaking, you would expect 'bull breeds' (remembering that this covers 3 breeds and their crosses) to rate highest on everything - escapes, bites etc, simply because so many people own one, they are more numerous in the community. Because of this I don't know that you can assume that 'bull breeds' are the choice of dog for irresponsible owners. I think it's more likely that they are just simply more numerous in the country so of the one off escapes etc that are inevitable to happen to even the average dog owner it would be expected that more of the dogs could be considered 'bull breeds' than any other.
  15. Trainer is a good idea to look at your situation and as the management techniques such as crating them before you do anything to do with food too. Also start them both on Nothing in Life is Free from today. No negative fallout possible and it often really helps with situations like this. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm
  16. Yeah thanks Melz, I did say to the journo there are three things I do not want in this article. Do NOT make this about greyhound racing, do NOT make this about greyhound muzzling laws and FFS get the breeds right...if I see the word pitbull heads will roll :D I'm not backward in coming forward LOL they still mis-named one of the breeds but two out of three ain't bad when it comes to journos!! Haha
  17. Pretty good article overall HazyWal! I've found that journos often exaggerate your comments (the whole 'fighting for their lives' thing) and sensationalise and can often mis-quote too. Seems like overall though this one went well.
  18. Thank you when the police want to send my husky to the vet but have no item to carry my dog. My neighbour and I made a simple stretcher with board and blanket. But the police said the dog is too heave to be moved on the board, as only one male police there and others are female. To be honest, my dog is really too heavy for woman. You know what happen, my dog somehow understood us and walked and lie down on it. That was the last thing he did for me. Whenever I recall this, I feel my heart was broken again. Oh I am so sorry, reading that broke my heart too Definitely heartbreaking
  19. This is why I always take dog attack reports with a grain of salt. The same thing happens in the USA - there was a study run on what the media reported vs. what the actual facts of dog attack fatalities were and they were wildly different. Glad you got a chance to set her straight, hopefully the story will be better seeing as you managed to speak to her. So sorry to hear that Maddie has regressed in her behaviour. That is often harder to deal with than the physical injuries
  20. HuskyDrake I am so sorry to hear what has happened to your dog and family. I can't imagine how you are feeling. Assuming HuskyDrake's profile is correct and she is in NSW - the Council could issue a $220 fine for the escape and a $550 fine for the attack. They could take it further if they wanted and actually issue a court attendance notice for the attack rather than just a fine - in that case the magistrate can issue up to the maximum penalty which from memory for a dog that hasn't been declared dangerous previously is $11k or thereabouts. If it had been declared previously (doesn't sound like it had been) the penalty is up in the 40k mark or thereabouts from what I remember. They'd need pretty robust evidence to go to court but based on the fact that it sounds like the police attended etc and that it happened in the backyard of the OP you would think they'd have plenty.
  21. It's pretty much the most important thing. You can't get anywhere without a leader that has their head in the right space. Unfortunately Steve Coleman has shown time and time again that he is there for the almighty dollar, not the animals. Until he goes nothing will change.
  22. We are supporters of RSPCA Qld & pay them money. Don't know anything much about RSPCA Victoria. But if there's hard-working, decent people working in the Victorian RSPCA Shelters & doing their personal best for the pets, then I'd support them. My comment was responding to Kirty saying she isn't a supporter but she went along. Her going along and paying them money makes her a supporter. Vic branch is pretty awful, hence why I assume she says she doesn't support them and the protesters. Not as bad as NSW, but bad enough. I'm sure there are good people working at the bottom of the organisation - there always is - but that doesn't make the organisation itself and it's actions acceptable.
  23. Each state is different... Qld are really stepping up to the plate in the last year or so, ACT have been good for a long time, SA is now getting great with Tim as the CEO. But NSW? It is absolutely appalling and don't deserve a cent from anyone. People giving them money just sends them the message that it is fine that they keep going the way they're going. That's why I wonder if people just don't know or if they know but don't care?
  24. I don't understand how any animal lover could support RSPCA NSW. is it that the people here that went don't know about them?
