I had a post on here a week ago about both of my dogs having runny and STINKY poos and VERY stinky farts, one was a great dane x bull mastiff, whom I had recently acquired, when I got him I had fed him the "woofbix" brand of dry dog food that he came with for 3 or so days and he had good poos and no smelly farts, then I swapped him gradually (over a week) onto advance large/ giant breed growth dry food and within 3 days he was as stinky as my other dog who is also on advance So i am just guessing that food doesn't agree with them? I am sorry I know this doesn't help your problem and I would do what other people have suggested re a stool sample to the vet as a first thing, and then the elimination diet, I am currenty in the process of changing my dogs diet to a kibble meal in the morning which is 2/3 premium food and 1/3 cheaper brand (with no artificial colours, flavours etc) the cheaper brand has a lesser protein amount, in an attempt to make their meal not so "rich" for them, I am also going to incorporate the night meal being ground up chicken carcass mixed with rice as this has a soothing attempt on the digestive system while still offering nutritional benefits of the bone etc from the chicken. In the end I will just have to tweak it until I find what works for my dogs but i do not want to completely let go of the super premium food at the moment as the dogs are only 8 months old. Good luck and I hope your girl feels better soon P.s (is there any chance she could be eating anything else? in the backyard etc?, mine will eat horse poo, sticks, grass, vinyl off my chairs outside and the pedal of my bike has also had a chmp which could also upset her tummy.....they have a million toys and now the bike, chairs and all the sticks i could find are gone so I am HOPING they just chew the toys.......but i doubt it )

Your'e not wrong about it being confusing I have been researching for a week or so pretty intensely and don't feel any clearer than when I started. I have decided to go with the premium kibble for one meal and raw at the next, I also understand that it is not a good idea to feed kibble and raw at the same meal because kibble takes a fair bit longer to digest and can cause dramas with the proper digestion of the raw. I don't have time to prepare a 100% raw diet and as I have 3 dogs I also have to keep in mind the practicalities, time, etc. From what I have gathered chicken carcasses are good, I am going to feed mine carcasses that have been ground up to avoid the problem of possible splintering with the bones, I figure that way they get the nutritional benefits without the danger. Also will be giving them all a large raw meaty marrow bone twice a week for their teeth and general dental health but they are all kept seperate (to avoid fights) and are supervised and once they start to break up the bone into fragments I will discard it (again to minimize the risk of obstruction etc from bone fragments) The only other thing I am going to do is to give them some sardines (tinned) once or twice a week which I will give before the kibble, as I understand fish is a good source of omega 3 and 6. I am not saying my way is perfect or even "good" the biggest judge will be my dogs. At the end of the day dogs are naturally opportunistic feeders, who have a diet made up mostly of meat and bones but also of whatever they can find (which isn't always a good thing but at least gives some insight into how they are designed physiologically) As I can see benefits and downfalls of a raw diet (prey-model and BARF), and of kibble I have decided to use both (good quality kibble tho ), also taking into consideration my personal circumstances. I guess I will try it and then monitor my dogs and make adjustments accordingly......good luck with your puppy, please keep in mind what another person on here said about changing diets gradually, particularly with a baby, as their tummies are fragile.......enjoy

Yes that is what I was worried about, it seems the more research etc I do the more confusing it gets...........guess i will just have to try a couple of different good quality foods until i find one that agrees with them........i was looking on a dog food review website which rated foods from1 through to 6 star, 6 being the best and advance was a 1 star!!!!!!!! Was a bit shocked about that cos it is sold at the vet clinic and classed as a "super premium quality food!!" so yeah.... i now have more of an idea what i do and don't want in a food re ingredients and how to read the ingredient listing so will now start experimentng :p wish me luck and thanks to everyone for your input Good luck! I do think there are better foods out there than Advance In terms of ingredients, Artemis and Evo are the best dry food available in Australia. I know! I have tried to get on to Artemis's website cos it sounds great and has awesome reviews but no luck, will keep trying though, will also look into Evo, thanks again

Woof bix is from Big W the good things about it are that it has no artificial colours or flavours...the reason I am wanting to give it a go is because when I got Zeus (big boy) he had been getting fed it and rice or pasta, his poo was solid and good consistency, not smelly, he didn't fart etc and he was a nice weight and looked and appeared fit and healthy.......the reason I am hesitant is because it is from Big W and is cheap, the bottom line is this fandangle EXPENSIVE Super Premium food they are on makes them STINK and have too soft poos.......will check out the ingredients today, lots of other posts I have read from people on different forums are happy with it and say their dogs have no probs, in fact I haven't read a negative review as yet, unlike ALL of the expensive brands...................anyway........more research and experimentation I guess

Hi I have read about eagle pack and it sounds great but where can I get it? I thought it was an american brand and not available here in Australia? I would love to feed woof bix cos it is cheap as chips and it doesn't have any artificia;l flavours or colours but I was worried about the quality in terms of having growing puppies particularly the large breed boy, which is why I chose a super premium food.......

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it is o.k to mix foods in terms of the dogs still getting "A complete and balanced diet?" My 7 month old staffy pup has been fed Advance puppy growth since she was 3 months old and the whole time she has had VERY smelly farts and her faeces has varied between soft and formed or soft and not too well formed. I just put it down to her being a "smelly" dog. However 2 weeks ago I acquired a 7 month old Bullmastiff x Great Dane boy who was being fed "Woof Bix" which is available from Big W. He had good solid faeces and didn't smell at all, I switched him to Advance Large/Giant breed Growth using the correct transition period of 4-5 days and now he does smelly farts and poo with the same consistency as my staffy Both dogs sleep in their beds beside my bed and the farts are suffocating me also picking up soft sloppy poo is fairly gross I want to ensure my dogs are having a healthy balanced and appropriate diet for their respective breeds and age etc so I am thinking to get some woof bix and feeding them whatever ratio of this and the advance to harden up their poo and reduce the farts. Does anyone have any experience or advice re this? (both dogs are up to date with worming and flea control and are desexed and they do not get any other food) Thanks Laylatheprincesss
