Can You Recommend A Vet For My Puppy?!
Swiss Girl replied to hanhans's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't like applecross vet, sorry. I know someone who used to take their dog there for a long time, then found out they were given bad advice. I also did puppy school their and it was terrible, didn't go the 4 weeks. All creatures great and small in South Perth has a good reputation. -
Such a terrible shock for the owner, lots hope they find the dog quickly.

Agree 100%, it is the same attitude that people get when their dogs approach other dogs, my dog is friendly what's your problem. My dogs are taught young to leave other people alone.

we had a similar problem with our pointer boy, never could get a firm stool until he was about 18 months. We tried several vets and in the end he had 2 lots of antibiotics very close together, we then had him on human yakult, 1 bottle twice a day for about 2 months and he just gradually improved over time, it still took quite a few months before he was perfect, but now we can feed him anything and it doesn't bother him. We also thought it was a food allergy and tried everything and found he was not too bad if we stuck with one brand of sensitive digestion, loose bowels but nothing worse, but he always had small runny poops and he seemed to strain a lot. I now believe he just had no good bacteria in his gut to help him digest his food, which is why he did well on easily digestive food. When he was on antibiotics it killed everything and we just replaced it with good bacteria. I also suspect he had an inflamed bowel or digestive system, which is why it took several months until he was 100% over it. Easy once you have worked it out, but very confusing at the time and the vet's really did not help much.

Dog Dies After Being Stabbed 11 Times
Swiss Girl replied to samoyedman's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
so glad that found the people who did this, lets hope the judge is not lenient this time -
thats correct Pixie, origionally they were all red and white, the first red one was a fault, but people liked the appearance and eventually it became more popular than the original colour, so its a great idea to cross breed them.

I Snapped At Someone On Facebook
Swiss Girl replied to Dogsrawesome's topic in General Dog Discussion
no, it sounded good to me. People should be accountable for what they say and hopefully he will learn something from this. Good on you for standing up to this. -
I have been recommending for years that it be compulsory that ALL dogs and owners must do 10 months obedience at a registered class, although it would be difficult to enforce, it is certainly not impossible. I think all dogs, no matter of size must do this, as it also enforces socialization, so smaller dogs learn not to fear larger dogs. It would also decrease the impulse puppy buyers.

Easy to say you wouldn't do it, but world history proves what people are capable of doing to survive.

We went through this same thing when my daughter got her dog, he ate my dogs bedding several times so we tried the bitter flavoured spray and it certainly does help, but you need to do it daily or else the taste disappears really quickly. We found the wool blankets worked best, luckily we have several old ones so donated them and it worked really well, for some reason dogs just don't like the taste, but they still have something to snuggle into. My husband also felt just the same way as your husband, that our dog was being punished by the younger dogs actions, but dogs don't think that way. Wool blankets and towels are really cheap to purchase from the op shop, and towels wash easily too. Instead of kongs, you can also put treats into empty 2L coke bottles, they work really well and make a nice noise when dogs play with them.

If the child was on the swing, he certainly did nothing to cause this. http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-na...0308-1blch.html

I've tried most of the vet's near the riverton area, currently am using Bullcreek vet, find the staff really nice and friendly. The vet's seem competent, but I haven't gone there long enough to really know yet. One other thing I like is they have a really large waiting room, so you can get away from other dogs or cats. I have a friend who used to go to applecross, she swapped a couple of years ago after going there for a long time.

Ideas For 'leave It' Off Lead
Swiss Girl replied to DalGirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Do you practice leave it at home? Do you carry extra nice treats when you go on walks? Do you practice recall continuously when walking so your dogs learns that coming to you is quick but includes this extra yummy treat. Like everything you have to practice at home first, then on a long leash when out. Practice makes perfect. -
Why Is Aus Becoming So Non Dog Friendly
Swiss Girl replied to Inevitablue's topic in General Dog Discussion
Where I live in WA we used to have several dog free parks within 5 minutes walk of my house, now I have 5 parks. They seem to have gone the other way and made all parks dog free, with a notice saying the dogs must be under your control. I love it, but do wonder why we can't have at least 2 parks for kids where dogs aren't allowed. I can walk my dogs at a park where people are playing sport and kids run around screaming. My dogs are well behaved so I don't have a problem, but I am wondering when the first accident will happen. Being able to take dogs on public transport would be great and cafe's good, but dogs don't have to go everywhere with us. -

Fontana Couple Convicted In Dog Mauling Of 3 Children
Swiss Girl replied to Swiss Girl's topic in In The News
They will be sentenced in a month so I hope to find out what happens and I'll update, the article did say a maximum of 7 years, but as we all know the maximum is very rarely given. -
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/02/18/...-of-3-children/ Seems they are getting serious there with dog attacks, but I wonder how long they will really get.
