  1. She isnt overall a bad person. She grew up in the country where dogs were for working etc, not pets. I think she just doesnt 'get' it, and I have also heard other people telling her how cute puppies are, and how all dogs should have a litter, all that kinda guff, which could be hard not to get sucked into.At least she is asking what to do, and I'll just keep plugging away at it. On the plus side, I have talked a client into talking to a rescue org re the big dog who lives at her house (got dumped there by a family member) she knows she cant afford it, or look after it properly. So I guess its not all bad to be considered the cray animal lady, lol. edited for sp
  2. Thanks all. I will call my vet tomorrow and ask their cost for ultrasound / test. I have explained (over and over) cost of vaccs, c-section, time off work, etc etc, but I swear its just going in one ear and out the other. Im really hoping its a phantom, the dog isnt allowed inside from what I understand, she certainly doesnt appear to want to spend money on it.
  3. Hi all. As I am known as the crazy animal lady at work, people tend to come to me with questions, which can be a worry cos I really not always confident with my answers, lol. She has two biggish mixed breeds, mastiff x ridgeback x something, i think she said. The boy is 2 of the crosses, the girl all three. Similar size at least. Naturally not desexed, she said she couldnt afford it, and I went straight into c-section costs etc. Workmate says 7 weeks (she thinks) ago she saw the dogs tied. Females behaviour is different, sooky etc. She says the thinks the dog is fatter, but isnt really sure. Same with the teats. When I suggested desexing, she said she couldnt cos of the possible pregnancy, I said it was still possible but she was totally against the idea. I also suggested an ultasound to know for sure, again, cost, and to be honest I think to her that comes under -only crazy animal people (like me) would do that. Dog is outside only, Im a little concerned she is going to go out one morning and there will be pups there. Im hoping its only a phantom. At possibly 7 weeks along, is there any 'at home' ways to know for sure one way or another? What else can I tell her!
  4. This is Wookie when we had some rescue kittens, this was our last baby to find a new home.
  5. Lol, sounds like they all have the potential for DOL mini meets
  6. One the other side of the coin, it doesnt specify what the papers are. I believe some pet shops advertise like that however the papers are actually vaccination certificates, not pedigree papers. We assume thats what they mean, but it may not be.
  7. Twice a day for life. A few years ago our old shep x mal got bloat, it was touch and go and just horrible and scary. If twice a day reduces the chance of that happening again, Im all for it. Also, if Kaisha (our female malamute) starts throwing up if she gets fed later than normal, she seems to have quite a sensitive tummy.
  8. Para Districts is at Jenkins Reserve at the end of Saints Rd. http://www.paradogtraining.com.au/joinus_18.html It doesnt say on the site ( I think) but from memory it was $60 or $65 ish for the years membership. I think they only go from Feb to Nov, there is also a dog park there as well.
  9. I didnt know about the Edinburgh one! Thats just near the RAF base, about 10 mins from my place! Thanks for that!
  10. I just bought two from ebay, my internet is giving me hassles and it wouldnt let me include my ebay id. Will email you about it via ebay.
  11. I was thinking of grabbing a couple of these.. My male malamute is 9 months old, I'll have to find the tape measure tomorrow, sort of thinking out loud about how much his neck still has to grow, lol. He is a soft coat too, so masses of hair.
  12. My Wookie is similar, 8 months old next week and 30 kg, he just loves all dogs and is totally stupid about it. We do obedience, we do the dog park, and he is still a nutter. He has been bowled over before, several times in fact, but just keeps going back.
  13. I met a lady at the dog park last week, she had her dog with her, said it was a ckcs, and that it was almost full grown, but it was teeny tiny, it would fit in one hand? That doesnt sound normal from reading the breed standard, she said it was tho? (I fully admit I know next to nothing about smaller breed dogs) All the other dogs at the park rushed the poor little thing, could hardly see her under all the dogs.
  14. Not my best picture, but Im on my laptop so not many photos stored, but my puppy is a woolly.
  15. Thanks Piper. We went there this morning! I googled and para popped up. So we will be going there in two weeks time, next week is the million paws walk so no training. Our pup will be 4 months old then, so he will be able to start with the puppy classes on the same day. Kaisha was very good today, she was very interested in everything but behaved well. Cheers!
  16. Hello all. This is my first post here at DOL, so let me know if I do anything wrong. We have 2 malamutes, a female who is 1 yr old, and a male pup who will be 15 weeks on Monday. We want to take the one yr old to basic obedience classes, she knows basic commands, but is horrible at walking on the lead, she used to be quite good but has gone backwards. She also gets a bit skittish around new people, so I really want to work on that, and last week she got bitten on the face by a dog who was jumping over its fence as my OH walked her past, so far she hasnt behaved differently towards any of the dogs we already know, but I dont know if it will affect any meetings with new dogs, if that makes sense. She has her C3 vacc, and we are in Salisbury Downs in Adelaide. I kinda want somewhere who will be kind to a complete novice! If we can get her better with the obedience I would be interested to see how she would go with agility, she is always running around in laps, doing figure eights around the furniture and the backyard, so I think she might enjoy it. Thanks!
