  1. Mine are fed RAW. But I keep a small bag of Royal Canin Lab for training & treats which they love. But they are both piglets & would eat any dry I reckon
  2. Not sure - we fed all of them out of identical ice cream containers. And Boon was always the last to be sent to his food as he was the quickest eater and then would go on to whoever hadn't finished. But they always seemed to head for the Eukanuba. I even did a swap around of positions one night and same result. Boon has always loved Eukanuba and I can use it as treats he likes it so much. I've tried Boon on Raw and he didn't seem to have the same oomph come dinner time. They were all labs so they wouldn't have had an issue eating anything to be honets. I saw some photos on here somewhere of Boonie at the park just at the time you decided to stop the Raw feeding & meant to have commented then on how shiny his coat was. Was that after the RAW feeding? Interesting for a Lab not to have oomph at dinner time I don't think it came across as snooty.
  3. That is really interesting. Does she actually mean it when she snaps? My dog is very submissive to other dogs and there are some dogs that literally just have to look at her and she will slink away or lie down. There is a BC that snaps at her like you describe but she ignores it and will bounce around this dog anyway. Usually they end up playing (they have known each other since puppies, otherwise I wouldn't let her annoy the dog like this) but they will never play a rough and tumble game- no body slamming like mine would play with other labs- its always a chasing game- The BC likes to "round up" Mindy and then sometimes they will gently play bitey face. To the OP- is this dog just doing it in play? Yes mainly in play but sometimes I wonder if she is getting serious because there are growling noises ? Before I made my decision to not allow any further interaction between my two & this dog, I tried to express that the dog is annoying my dogs. The response was something like "she is only playing & won't bite". Just not worth the stress but am still curious about this dogs behaviour though. I guess if it is interpreting in the worng way by the wrong dog then she could end up being attacked. I know I would be worried if my dog snapped at others even if she didn't actually hurt them.
  4. Thanks ness. Well explained. I don't think she should be let loose to play with all & sundry either at least until her behaviour is addressed. Having 2 young Labs, i made the decision that this was a bad combination.
  5. Thanks corvus. That makes a lot of sense. Although this dog seems to love the park and it is usually her that is in the other dogs faces first. It's like she thinks it is her park ?
  6. Thanks Nekbet. Hard to desribe other than this dog greets & then plays with every dog at the park with this constant snapping & showing of her teeth. I have already suggested a trainer to them. And I have suggested DOL for advice too. I know they don't see it as a problem anymore because they think it is part of her breed/s and cannot be changed. But what is frustrating to me is, they just stand there & say or do nothing to their dog whilst it is displaying this behaviour to other dogs. This is part of her play style is their explanation.
  7. There is a (approx) 18 month old female BC x Cattle Dog that frequents our local off leash park. This dog constantly snaps, but to my knowledge, doesn't connect, shows her teeth whilst doing this, but otherwise friendly. (Also very protective of her owners) Her owners have expressed their concerns about her behaviour but on the other hand haven't done anything constructive to try to recitify. They say she is just playing. She is just plain annoying. I am worried that this dog's behaviour will cause problems with another dog one day. (I don't permit my two to socialise with this dog anymore if we happen to be there at the same time. We leave or go into the other fenced off area) Can this behaviour be changed or is it just the make-up of this dog? Has anyone else had experience with this type of temperament. Would like your thoughts/opinions please.
  8. Why not just use the Interceptor every month ?
  9. My neighbour & I were only discussing the same problem over the fence this morning. She has a new rescue BC that she couldn't walk due to him pulling, so on her vets recommendation, purchased the Gentle Leader Head Collar yesterday. She said it is fantastic & he is a completely different dog to walk now. I will be buying one now for my 6 month old Lab.
  10. Off lead exercise like play is fine. No exercise works on a growing pup like appropriate offlead playing. You can play with your dog and you can let him romp around and practice your recall. Leash training for a few minutes is fine. Just don't pavement pound for half an hour or more everyday and bear in mind that exercise on sand stresses joints even more than solid ground. The beach is not a softer option. Being pounded by larger dogs in the dog park isn't either. A lot of puppy energy can be dissapated with training. 5 minutes of brain work is worth a lot of pavement pounding. Your dogs, your choice. I know a lot of folk that practice the "no on lead exercise before 6 months" guideline. I know a few that haven't and can think of at least 3 OCD issues resulting. One dog was gaiting off a bike aged 5 months If you want a veterinary back up, talk to Dr Billinghurst or Dr Zink. Growning joints don't cope well with unnatural stresses. Long periods of leash exercise are "unnatural". They'll also tell you that the fast track to joint issues is a fat puppy. Keep them lean folks.. enough to be a wee bit ribby. I can also recommend the people from Dr Bruce Syme's Vets All Natural. The website has a free advisory service for dietary advice etc.
  11. Me too Mason. We have 10 stairs but we put up a baby gate to restrict his access until I could no longer carry him up (hubby has a bad back & couldn't) then we would walk up & down just a couple times a day slowly. Same for our 2nd boy and I am still carrying him at 6 months. We followed our wonderful breeders advice to the letter. No long boring walks until 12 months of age or 18 months is even better. Just backyard play. A good RAW diet that promotes slower growth, no stairs, no dry sand at beaches and no jumping in or out of our car were a few of her instructions to minimise HD or ED. Jangels is 20 mths & so far no problems. As others have said, there are no guarantee's with any dog or breed you can only try to minimise the risks. To the OP, so sorry to hear about your situation. So sad & hope you are coping ok
  12. Yes stairs are bad for puppies as are polished timber floors as they can't get a proper grip. I have been told that Guide Dogs QLD will not even consider placement for fostering if the home has stairs. My breeder was also strict in her instructions about not letting puppy at the beach on dry sand but wet sand is OK.
  13. Wonderful news. So happy for you. That would be my worst nightmare someone 'taking' my boys.
  14. The dog park at Bracken Ridge has a separate puppy park attached to the main dog park. Clean, nice sheltered seating & shade. We go there all the time.
  15. Jangels was about 16 weeks when he was 100% toilet trained. Louis a little longer as he was a winter baby so outside access was limited. It just takes persistence, large amounts of patience & a good routine. As others have said, every dog is different. Just when you think their never going to get it, it usually happens.
  16. I live in Wooloowin - so there's a few around me, or we'll go to Nudgee Beach. Tried Kroll Gardens at Redcliffe once - wasn't impressed so haven't been back. Same for me for Kroll Gardens. Jake got attacked at Nudgee so that was the last time we went there. On a weekend too many dogs at Nudgee for my liking. There is a doggy park at Petrie + they can swim that is supposed to be really nice. Haven't been there yet.
  17. What park do you go to? I think I'd remember a yellow and black duo - we divide our time between a few parks and runs and swims so it's possible we could be just missing each other. Bracken Ridge most days & Brighton Park near the Hornibrook Bridge for swims I used to go to Bracken Ridge...stopped because there is too many irresponsible people there who don't control their dogs I am very particular about what time we go there. When we do go up there, there are the same dogs, only about 3, who I know & are occupied playing ball. My 2 just do their own thing, sniffing & walking around together. We love it up there, beautiful views, clean, safe & really nice people. But have heard that afternoons after work there can be 30 or so dogs there & that there have been a few dog fights up there at that time. I would never take my 2 up there at that time. Where do you go fatsofatsoman ?

  19. Nutters everywhere ! I hope we don't go to the same park !
  20. My idea of heaven too My favourite time is just before breakfast. They go nuts which we call a production. I love how they both sit perfectly before their full bowls are put down in front of them But I guess it is their companionship which I adore. I love how they follow me around, room to room & sometimes a wet little nose on the back of my leg or a paw on the back of my thong :D
