You should see the zoomies at our place with three large dogs........They love to do an evening Zoom around our garden. The safest place for us is next to a tree to protect our knees Thankfully no humping..........Ours jump into our dam and feel it is totally necessary to shake next to us, I love them though, it makes us smile

Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change

Prayers and positive healing thoughts for Grover.........Be tough big boy and get well soon. Your human Family is very worried about you -
So lucky to be found in time ......What is it with people, why do they do this :) ;)

That's OK, Elfin. My comment would still hold true. Behaviour is far more complex than one assessment made at one time in one location. Their 'finishing' point of measuring dogs that are the 'most easy going, friendly, non-aggressive, relaxed sociable'... may actually be dogs who were significanly helped to be so, by human behaviour. So they could pick up consequences of something they're not taking into consideration at all. Critical issues re dog behaviour (& training) shouldn't be just the stuff of passing reference in a study with their stated aims. Especially as they're going to be using DNA data to nominate which dogs are suitable for Australian society. I'm still very much not impressed. I don't think you can assess a dog's behaviour without taking into consideration it's upbringing.......My rescue newf is a perfect example. She failed the RSPCA temperament test and was to be put to sleep. We took her on and after a lot of re-training she is now again very much like the average newf, friendly and social. But had she been tested eighteen months ago she would have failed any assessment. If the test was taken now, it would be a totally different outcome. I truly believe environment has a lot to do with dog behaviour.

Katy our seventeen week old pup discovered the doggy door on day two. She has been hit by the swinging door a few times, but now knows to wait for the big dogs to go through first. It also means she is polite at the door.............She waits, for anything bigger to go through first

I am not using anyone in particular, but I have raised a few newfie puppies, since the eighties and a Golden cross recently. I use the crate method, but only for a short period. I also use the umbilical system, which is puppy on lead, whilst we are inside the house. this gives lots of lead training and contact and gives the puppy opportunity to communicate what she wants. I have a seventeen week old newfie pup right now and she has only had two mishaps, and they were our fault for not being quick enough. I totally ignore mistakes. We take our puppies out 1/2 hourly when they are awake. And it starts as soon as they are awake. And we have a few night time trips. If Katy has been asleep and she wakes I take her out immediately. She gets lots of praise and rewards when she does her potty. I also seem to sleep with one ear open, because as soon as she winces at night I take her out for a potty run. We also have bells on the door handle and i always rang them on the way out.......She now rings them when she wants out. Or she barks a loud sharp bark in my ear at night. I make a huge effort to sound happy and full of praise when she wants out. Which on some nights, when you are tired, is difficult. But we have had success. Katy is now loose in the house. We only use the crate at obedience and shows. And she is potty trained and has only had those two mishaps. I aim not to have any mistakes in the crate either, when they are small. This also works for mature dogs. We got Annabelle as a 13month old rescue newf, who had never lived indoors and she was not toilet trained.........It was bad. Now she had a few huge mishaps. But is good now Addon, I use a harness from day one...............I have all sizes to adjust to the huge size difference Good luck with your future puppy, enjoy
