There is a lot of controvesy over the breeding or using surgery for a dry mouth newf........ I have a cheap solution :eek: Katy at 5 1/2 months, she always likes something in her mouth

i would probably be unable to move, the way i am attached to my dogs, but if there was no choice i would go with the above option......But I would probably be miserable forever and always feel guilty. I have enough guilt from putting to sleep a beloved newf after three strokes. I most likely would not cope. i would hate to be in your shoes and fell for you, very sad

My three dogs are with medibank private, because you get a discount as a member. i have taken the option to pay the first $500.00 to make the monthly payments cheaper. i am only in it in case of major orthopedic Surgery. I just hope i NEVER need it. I pay $52.00/month, but I think it is because of the newfie thing, high risk

I refuse to add up the dog vet bills But have lived in a caravan on a property for quite a while, until we could find a place that takes dogs. people told me to get rid of them, if ever We now live and bought where we live because of the dogs and horses. We had a dam/very large pond built in the garden specifically for the dogs, they are newfs after all We have enclosed verandah's (44'x14') with screening, which is dog proof, because of the dogs, so that they can freely roam in and out and stay cool at night and be safe. And we have not gone to many events/places because of the dogs But I love them and will never go without them

Well.............Being a newfie owner, my life is full of drool when my dogs get exited.To the point I don't get exited and a lot of my friends and the people at the kennel club expect it. Katy and Annabelle don't drool that much, except when it is hot, but my previous boy Zacky and my gorgeous girl Abbey drooled buckets. I never went anywhere without a towel. It does tend to be a bit of a giant breed problem. It is why I have a sticker on my car "Droolz Cool"

No you are correct.....that is why the icecubes were in water in a bowl at first and the peas were wrapped in a facecloth.........

Our hot water system blew on our back verandah, which is Katy's favorite place to be (was). Katy is our five month old newf puppy She got a very big fright and tried to get back into the house and she scalded her front feet in the hot water on the floor. It is more of a scalding, but she screamed and was hard to calm down. I put ice and cold water in a dish and sat with her and her front feet in the ice and water. And we used frozen peas in little bags . She cried and whimpered and was a very sad case all together. Annabelle, our adult newf nearly ran into the hot water too, I just managed to stop her. Tessa and her were beside themselves with her crying. Anyway I put some xylocaine cream and kept the cold packs on for a few hours. And I slept with her changing the packs when required. She seems to have survived the ordeal with minimum damage. She is very sooky with me and she won't go on the back verandah today. But she is sound and i cannot see any bad burns. Hooray for first aid and being there. Hot water system luckily was not on boil, that would have caused a great deal of damage. It will need to be repaired, there go more $$$$$$'s

That's exactly what I was thinking. But it might be lower tack. Would be expensive to use every day too, but good for "special occasions" perhaps. Just before the in-law visit

Most my newfs have drunk their water like that.....and then with a wet muzzle come and give you a adoring look resting on your lap

We do live at least half an hour away from our friends.....We are rural, hence the fire worries at this time of the year

we are on acreage and have a huge garden......We have planted lots and I mean lots of lavender, Tansy, geraniums of all type, rosemary and all the herbs that reduce insects. We have found that our dogs lie in the Tansy and flatten it. It does not look good. And especially Tessa always seems to rub herself in the Lavender bushes. We have no visible fleas on the dogs and we do not use any chemical preventative. I am not sure how you could tackle an infestation, but we have all the preventatives working successfully. The other thing someone told me ones was to make sure you do not have a lot of sparrows around, as they carry the fleas quite successfully to different areas. Our dog beds in the outdoor kennel room and run are made from hessian bags filled with dried lavender/Tansy. The dogs love these beds. we only use them in Winter. They have their hammock beds in Summer

We socialize with our dogs, but so do our friends.............we all take our dogs along and they all get along really well. because we meet quite regularly and some are friends from dog training. So I guess I would not take them uninvited Our dogs are however really well behaved, well trained and do not go indoors...........Our friends have dog proof yards and mostly the events are outdoor Bar-B-Q's. We even bring our trailer, in case our dogs are required to be in the trailer. I will not leave my dogs at home during the fire season unless I really have to. I am lucky, because hubby works from home.

Sugar cane mulch could have some chemical in it from Agricultural spraying and it is sweet. We got rid of it, because one of our horses was eating it and I wasn't sure.............Pulling at straws here. So sad he is not well again. Hope you find the culprit

Can they have fireworks when it is so dangerous fire wise? I am lucky that my dogs do not notice fire works, but I am more worried about it starting fires in all the dry areas........

Not a nut job at all......I felt my Abbey( my newfie heart dog) near me for a long time, I am now convinced she has some input in my new newfie pup. She does so many of the same things, She lies in the same places and grumbles like she did. My other dogs do not do the same things. If you are a nut job, I am too

My newfs like to have something to show and something to carry............If they have an empty mouth I can put a bag or something in their mouth and they will bring it into the house for me. I love that.
