Johnno is very good with dogs, Annabelle's best friend, so we decided to allow Katy around him. She has been getting closer and closer. And now she will join Annabelle to check out if there are any left-overs in his feed bin. It is quite late in the evening, so the pictures are a little dull, sorry Katy lying next to Johnno I love the sun setting light on the pile of pine mulch Katy and Annabelle in his bin....Katy's tail looks like it has a band around it, but it is the start of her new coat Sun is almost down and Tessa has joined them

We have done the same.....We do not have kids, but we have included lots of playing kids in our socialisation program. We have friends with screaming rowdy kids and our dogs have become very comfortable being around many different playing, racing, bike-riding kids. When we walk the street in our nearby little village, a lot of people now come up and ask to pet our dogs. And we go into the little speech of always make sure you ask, because not all dogs are happy with strangers, blah, blah, blah. Our Annabelle is a newf rescue and she was terrified of kids, but she loves their company now, because we introduced her slow and steady and made it fun with treats

Get to feel well soon Skooty....That is a huge suture line

I have never owned a husky and really only have experience with newfies.............But I find dogs in general get the fear period at six /eight months. I find the 12-16 weeks puppies are very trusting. probably as long as you are a constant to the pup, Esky and try to keep some sort of routine with play/potty and food. things should be fine. Esky will still have her own crate and furry friends? I would be more concerned with moving your cat. Cats are often more unsettled. Dogs just love their people so much, they just want to be with them. Just make sure they are tagged with you mobile number in case the worst case scenario, you lost someone on your trip. Good luck, it is a looooooong way.......

We always have had newfies and rough play is a big no no...........We teach our older dogs "gently", which we have always used when we meet other dogs. Our two older dogs will do the Zoomies and hoon around. but they understand "gently" and slow right down, with katy our 6 month old newf pup. It has got to the point that when one of our dogs plays with our pup and the other dog thinks it gets too rough they "block". It is all from repetitive training. We can let our three soft play in the garden when we are about. We also allow our a lot of water play to help those big bones and joints. No Steps, jumping or long walks till about twelve to fourteen months. So I would socialize with well trained/mannered older dogs if I only had a puppy. We meet and greet a lot of dogs at our kennel Club, on lead and have met some dogs at a different dog club, where we train, off lead, but all the dogs were well trained.

Our dogs were sent a Secret Santa from Florida, which is a plush hollow log with three holes and three squeaky squirrels that can be pulled out. It is a Dog Puzzle and they LOVE it. They play with it for hours and it has not been damaged

Katy our newfy pup was introduced to swimming by her "big Sisters"....they just took her to our dam in our garden at ten weeks. we have always taken our pups to quiet waters and allowed them to do it slowly by themselves. We just allow them to make the choice in shallow water and we go on from there, until they choose to swim Katy following Annabelle in Annabelle stayed close all the time katy a couple of weeks ago

Lovely pictures and look at that smile.........So much fun getting dirty ;)

Don't laugh, our other dog retrieves any yabby nets we put in. She pulls them in. We have to put them in whilst she is not looking. Even then she seems to sniff as if she knows they are there

It was completely gone after about ten minutes of playing with it

Yes the crayfish part was a joke, but she has potential

Mine never wear collars at home............My dogs know it is training time, when the collar goes on. We have stopped wearing collars when one of our dogs got hung-up in our garden.....luckily we were home and were unable to release him, he would have choked to death. We just put the collars on when we go out, they get used to them

Katy went for a swim in our pond and came out with a crayfish.....She had a great time rolling in it and eating some of it

I am highly likely to get shot down in flames.........But I have newfoundland dogs and have had them since the 1980's. I have been overseas to study about bloat and done many work-shops over in the USA and Canada for first aid in bloat and at some veterinary conferences........... I feel i have been extremely lucky and have not have had one of my dogs go down with bloat. i have however helped several people, who like you and me , live a long way from the vet, do first aid. the link attached is a very basic instruction http://user.gru.net/urbnbot/Bloat_Emergency_Info.pdf If you are interested in more, just ask me. It is scary when you can't just get to the vet straight away

I love them.............we had Lobo she was a tervueren. She passed away in 1985 and we still miss her

I love the Ian Dunbar system....Always a good read/watch We train our puppies as we go. Before they are six months we do not too much on lead work, because we have a giant breed and to me all the bony structures are very precious (neck especially) But we do a lot off lead. We do sit, stand. drop with treats...........And because we want retrievers/rescue dogs we always give the pup something to carry and tell her how good she us. We use a mix of training. A lot is clicker, but we use "yes" and no clicker and a lot of voice only or treat rewards. When we walk from our barn to house we do a little heel with a treat or a little recall, with a huge reward. Our present pup at six month has a lovely off lead heel, sit, drop, recall and a fabulous retrieve on ground and in water. She even ramps in and out of the car. But we do it constantly when we are around her, she thinks it is just all attention. Even when we have dinner in the lounge room, it is training time. We leave our plates on the table and we watch them. She now knows food on tables is "off" (at least when he are there :D). When we do obedience with our other two we actually tie her up nearby and that has happened from very small pup and she just sits and watches, we hope she absorbs some of it . She is also at all our obedience classes and we take her a lot of places to introduce her to lots of people. When we walk her for short distances on lead, she stays with the other two dogs at heel now. And that is just because of the constant work we do off lead. So we have no special training moments, we just use all opportunities and moments with our pups. i wish you fun with you puppy

When I got my rescue newf, she was 13 month and only weighed 27kg, she was very thin. As I said i do not feed canned, but just RAW, which we feed, would not put the weight on. So I made a porridge for her. !/2 cup rice, 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup soup mix.........I would soak this for about about two hours in a really good quantity of water ( half way up the bowl). I would add about 1 cup of chicken mince and put it in the microwave in a glass bowl on high for 12 minutes uncovered. it makes a lovely mash that Annabelle loved with her sardines and other meats and vegs etc (dry food in your instance). This put on the weight quite quick. We also give our pups VitC,VitE, kelp, glucosamine and fish oil. This is quite a cheap feed. I keep it in the fridge........... Never be afraid to feed bones, it is good to keep those puppy teeth entertained.........Just in Summer don't leave the unfinished part hanging around, chuck it. Our newf breeder starts the pups on bones from 4-5 weeks, when they are still with the bitch. I have raised many puppies in the last 30+ years, with good bone structure and health, sadly you will not know the breeding history. but many dogs I have had with an unknown or sad history have been great companions, even though sometimes shorter than preferred. I wish you a great time with your puppy

We had over 3" A couple of days ago.....dams overflowing for the first time, since i don't know when. We have since had another 1" yesterday. huge newfie feet tracks throughout the house. They love puddles. And isn't it amazing how the grass can go green overnight
-
We use fish oil/omega 3 capsules, Vit E and we feed sardines every second day....Dogs love eggs and we feed mainly RAW........Our black dogs are very shiny, but my pup is just loosing her puppy fur and it is dull and fluffy. But these shiny bits are coming through

Help.............nose Bleed?!
newfsie replied to JudgingTheDeed's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
And sometimes, just like people, they just get a nose bleed. If it doesn't recur , would be happy to just keep an eye on her. If worried and you get on well with your vet. Give them a ring. I would just see what happens.
