Because you are interested in future showing, I would follow some Berners in the show ring.....And when it is quiet maybe you can occasionally chat to some breeders. I made fairly early contact with newfie breeders, I was going to wait for five years with my first purebred newf I got one within the year, we had two dogs, but the two older dog did a wonderful job teaching our first newf how to be a lovely dog, especially our Scotch Collie. I have seen some lovely berners from Wagga. A couple of friends own some. Lovely dogs

They won't cost that much...Even using the best food. I bet you are exited about the pup I'm super excited! Except I got the months wrong...I should be getting my newfie in October/November! Thanks! I have waited so long already and don't know how much more I can wait until I burst! Take heart i waited for a whole year for Katy, because i wanted a special lineage and girl.....It is all worth the wait We think we pay about $20-30 per week )does include all the supplements).....I do use a lot of chicken, but ours come from an organic free-range place. And we have our own too (eggs). And I am luck, because we have a great butcher

Whats The Worst Your Dog Has Done To Hurt You
newfsie replied to Primedogs's topic in General Dog Discussion

I don't use almond meal, but i use lots of other meal. Love oats especially. the dogs showed me they love grain, by the way they steal the horse feed

The system I used with my 14 month old newf rescue was the "umbilical"method. It meant she was just attached to me all the time, unless she was in the dog kennel or out side. I had her tied to my waist initially for the first four weeks whilst i was on holiday. She was not potty trained and let me tell you her mistakes were huge. she is perfect now........... We never acknowledged mistakes and praised highly with food for the correct place. it took quite awhile, but she is now my velcro dog and so sweet and can be left in the house all day. I also do it with our puppies, it takes less time. you just know what they are up to and where they are

I would have to agree with all the posters....I hope they find something simple to fix (sore ears, painful tooth or something like that)

Katy won't eat pear and neither does Annabelle, but they both love banana and will steal them

I just feed it when available....I have removed the really large sharp fins etc. But I noticed when hubby fed and did not, the dogs left the rough bits

NOT while you are sorting out the pup's behaviour growling at humans http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=190250 and not until your son gets better at handling the pup. Hmmmm, must admit I did not realise this puppy growled at people. I have never had that issue. But yes, that would have to be sorted.

Katy's favourite treat is fruit, especially water melon. A shame it is so messy, because it would make a great training treat for her. I took some head shots whilst Mike was feeding her........She is seven months old now I think she will be a drooler

Awwwwwwww it made me cry and brought a smile to my face in the end, very sweet

I would love to do therapy work.....it is why I have spent so much time on socialization. My dogs are really used to all sorts of situations now, even the pup. And my dogs just attract kids, all kids want to pet fluffy newfies and newfies just love anyone and everything.......thanks for posting the site

You don't used any grains at all?..........we blend lupins/oats and add them in almost powder form, tblsp or so. Do you add any of the bought additives? We don't.I am just interested in how everyone elso does it

I have had no issues with Medibank Private....they know the breed of my dogs. they were just not paying for any pre-existing conditions. So they asked for my vet and checked my older dogs medical history, which was a big Zero "Hi all, Forgive my ignorance, but what does it mean, feeding RAW? RAW is feeding raw meats, offal, vegetables, fruit, legumes and grains.............not cooked. There are many websites on RAW feeding. Some use additives from different companies or even a whole RAW diet to purchase. We just do our own thing, we have for so long now, that it is just a way of life.

I just sleep in the back of our jeep when i take one dog. i have done this for several work-shops/events. I just take food for the dog and leads. With lots of drinks for both of us. I hate sleeping in a tent and find the back quite comfy and my newf thought she was very special sleeping with me We have a tarp that goes over the car, attaches to the roof rack and some poles and extends well beyond the car. It also gives shade to the car and we can leave the windows open and she is quite comfortable and cool

We had a newfie meet at Little Austinmer Beach, near Wollongong New South Wales. I counted 20+ newfs at one stage. Some came and left early some came late. The beach is a off leash beach and there were lots of dogs............No hassles. Some dogs were kept on leash, some were off Mine had a bit of both Katy was on leash initially, because she is not used to waves. we walked the beach, before anyone arrived, because we were early. Katy was sooooo tired and Annabelle and Tessa had a great time. I was so proud of them, they were around the food and in amongst everything. Well behaved. Katy went for a stroll by herself at the end of the day and went for a swim, I had lost her for a moment. She went for a quick dip and came back happiy The dogs had all been for a swim and were all pretty tired when we got back up to the "camp" Teddy, Katy's Dad A new newfie we met Heidi, she was very sweet Boson, like us came from Canberra a fair drive away Wookie, a lovely dog........He was unable to swim, because he was just desexed Newfs near the picnic table A very tired Katy

Yes and once hysteria or a phobia sets in, it will take professional help..........they are often not able to be reasoned with.

I think the way we keep dogs is vastly different. When I was growing up our dogs went where we kids went, if 6 kids were playing under the tamarind tree after school there would be at least 2 or 3 dogs, they socialised differently, they had heaps of fun doggy things to do. One of my dogs and an old cattle dog didn't really like each other so we took it in turns sending one home. Our dogs went tadpole fishing, played hide and seek in the cane fields, swimming in the river etc, they were not bored and rarely needed structured exercise, Maybe modern lifestyle, smaller yards have contributed to the problem. I do however strongly believe that the way that dog bites etc are handled these days is different. If you teased a dog and it bit you, you got a kick up the backside, end of story. Now it seems that the public expect stuffed inanimate objects that their kids can do whatever they like to and the dog dies if it snaps. Sleeping dogs, dogs eating, dogs with bones were left alone, you were not cruel to dogs, it was common sense. We have sadly little of it these days. I agree with this...I am in my mid fifties. we traveled with three GDS's everywhere. they were always along off lead. No aggression and the bitches went in our kennel when they came in season. We never witnessed any dog fights as kids and there were so many dogs in our "gang"/ we had them pulling homemade sleds and everything. those were glorious days. I still make a huge effort to socialize or dogs now. to meet as many dogs/people as possible
