I start with milk bottles on the traces...initially empty and I slowly fill them, so they end up pulling 6kg. We do a lot of ground work...Obedience with saying left right and back-up. My dogs know left and right. We also do a lot of general obedience with our dogs, it all helps. Our dogs heel really well off lead and we do agility, so they send too. All of this helps in carting (and water rescue) I also teach the dogs from behind..I walk behind them and teach them the same cues from behind them. And we drive the cart ourselves behind, beside and in front of them. this makes them very comfortable with it. This is best done before the harness even comes out. Just make them familiar and they will realize it does not harm. good time to use lots of rewards too. We also train horse in harness (and under saddle) so we borrowed some of their training

I am also with Medibank private 100% for three and 80% for our last newfie Rescue dog....We do have an excess of $450, which I chose to keep the monthly payments down to $106.00 for four. I have just had a TPLO done for one of my newfies by A orhto Specialist in Melbourne A bloat scare with the same dog, when she had every test imaginable to check what she didn't have and her check x-rays with sedation and we got everything back. Except for the $450 I was diligent with the paperwork..we had three different vet practices due to some reasons. I thought that would be a problem, but no. I just got all the money back into my account and later got a statement saying what they paid for. Our bill was HUGE....$7000 in all with all the other stuff for her illness. I now know all the things that are not wrong with her. 12 weeks later and she is fit as a fiddle, back to full work and happy and my Mastercard is light again. I loved the fact that i did not have to think as to what i could afford and just do it ASAP.......

I do carting with my newfies If you are interested in a similar harness I suggest this place They are very helpfull and cheap....The dollar is great and the postage is not bad at all. I found purchased form the USA cheaper and it is quality stuff and they have a lot of experience. Mine are totally machine washable. I have two sets. I have had one set for about four years and it looks brand new, we do a lot of carting at Million paws and such events If you need any help PM me, I will be glad to help http://www.nordkyn.com/ I use the SIWASH CART HARNESS Look under harness

Showing Dogs With Structural Faults
newfsie replied to Topoftheheap's topic in General Dog Discussion
It says major structural fault, so i would not have it in a breeding program or show it...... I know in my chose breed there are some breeders using dogs they should not use, which is worrying..... -

I have a huge catch-up to do....Katy the dog who had the surgery has been very sick, we initially thought she had bloat, but it wasn't. Except they told me it could go on to bloat due to stress and all of that..Lots of tests later. All blood tests, urine tests and poop tests negative........She seems better, but not 100%. I thought I was going to loose her Because there are so many the rest is just a link to my 365 project http://community.webshots.com/slideshow/582090898DpPoMQ?mediaPosition=93 I will try to keep up now

Having owned a lot of dogs and having to have had some PTS, my personal experience has always been caring.....I have held all of my dogs as they have been PTS......In my experiences, my dogs have just literally gone to sleep in my arms. It has been peaceful for them. Maybe your dog was in pain from whatever the problem was....Maybe your dog was in pain. We did have one difficult cannulation and it took some time, because he was dehydrated......but there still was no pain. You can never blame all vets for one experience with one vet. Most vets, even though some charge enormous amounts, are there to help our pets.
