  1. That was very interesting. I think the breeder did what a lot of uninformed dog owners do, have a litter without any research. She saw dollar signs and had a friend who had done it before tell her how easy it would be. I'm actually glad it was difficult for her to find homes and she didn't get a cent after rehoming the dogs as she now seems to know it was more of a headache than she thought it would be. I do have to take my hat off to her for trying her hardest to find them all homes and not dumping them and for taking back the puppy after that drop kick father couldn't look after him. I hope she tells everyone she knows just how difficult and not worth it breeding her dog was. Hopefully her story can stop more unwanted pups being born.
  2. I think purple seem to be the colour of choice for most of us!! P.s. Pick me!
  3. I would have to look at the breeds clashing as English Toy Terriers are very close to G for Golden retrievers. But then again the amount of dogs per breed in each group varies too. Nova's don't really appeal to me, sorry I'm sure with a bit of research and planning we can make it work and not be too stressful.
  4. Terrible news My prayers and thoughts are with you for more positive news to come.
  5. I agree. A friend of mine's dog was limping on her back leg and the vet couldn't find anything wrong. Then she went to a doggy chiro and found her back was out, a few adjustments and she's now as good as new. Maybe worth a try?
  6. The furminator is a great tool, just be careful you don't get carried away and end up with bald patches (yes, I have apologised to the cat ) The furminator works well with short coated dogs and gets a large amount of dead hair out. A Zoom Groom is also a gentler option if you just want to cut down on the shedding, it just may take a bit longer.
  7. I have three children Showdog so I was thinking if we get something small as the girls get old enough (if they want to) they can handle it as well. My youngest (who just turned three) has always been very animal orientated so she may very well be interested in showing as well. My son is a little shy of larger dogs, even my male Golden is on the large side for him, but he is confident with my Shih Tzu and Aria who is a 5 month old Golden bitch. He could always start handling a Golden as he gets older I suppose if he wanted to handle a larger breed.
  8. Thanks for all the advice. I might take him to a junior handlers class and suss out how others make it work with their kids at Durack.
  9. I have bought two of my dogs from interstate and Daisy came from Townsville (not just down the road as I am in Brisbane ;)) I have never had a problem and am more than happy with the lovely dogs I have now. My last bitch Aria came all the way from Tasmania and it was very easy and she was none the worse for wear because of her big plane trip. If you find the right breeder it is worth flying a dog interstate. Good Luck with your search :D
  10. Yay, you worked it out! Your dogs are lovely. :D
  11. Thanks Erin, if it's not raining I'll bring Connor. Thanks anglesun. I was thinking if we get another breed for him I would just enter him in some shows and my goldens in others, that way I don't have to worry about us clashing. It is sounding like no one has made the two groups thing work successfully yet.
  12. What are you on about??? Are you saying because my mother has asthma (a condition) that I should not have had children on the off chance I could have passed it to them!! So off topic and so offensive
  13. I've seen you've changed your name to your prefix, Asalei. It's really pretty. :D I don't know if a beagle would be too heavy for Connor to lift. Maybe I can bring him over one show and he can try with Abby? We already know the Goldens love Beagles
  14. Thanks That's what I'm worried about. I enjoy relaxing at a show. I will have a look at the shelties next weekend but I recall a couple of times watching them while waiting for my turn in the ring. No grooming's not a problem I have been a groomer for 14 years :D I had a gold Cocker growing up and she was really full on and not the easiest dog to live with. I'm sure they're not all like that but the reason I love my goldens are how chilled out they are. We had a Boston x a couple of years ago and she was adorable. They call them a clown and Jemica certainly was! I think a Bulldog will be too strong for him but will take him to look at the Frenchies and see how he would go with handling one of them. Maybe a small bitch may be suitable. That is another concern and I wish it wasn't. The competitive spirit (shall we call it that? ) I think I will have to suss out other groups too. I have only been showing for just over a year and have been very lucky to make some great friends who have been supportive and congratulatory when I have beaten them as I am of them when they beat me (happens more often than not ) . It makes the day fun when you can cheer each other on but I know not all breeds are like that.
  15. I think for my dogs it's the sound of the air bubbles in the pipe when the water goes through it, but if yours has not been in use...I don't know. For us, we turn off the taps when the dogs are out and every night when they are back in their run we turn it on.
  16. Awwww, that is so adorable. Got to love those pleading Golden eyes
  17. Welcome! I had a Shepherd X Kelpie from the RSPCA that was my first dog when I moved out of home and he was the light of my life for 8 amazing years. Good Luck with working out how to post a photo. It took me ages and there is no way I could explain it as I still get it wrong sometimes
  18. How scary, I'm glad your daughters dog was OK.
  19. That's a good idea Sway. Daisy is 9kgs and too heavy for my son to lift onto a table so maybe a breed that is shown on the ground. Does anyone know if Tibetan Spaniels are shown on the ground or on a table? I like the look of them and my son and I have met some lovely ones at shows. He would really love a bulldog and I also like Frenchies, pugs and Bostons (anything that has a flat face, hence why I love my Shih Tzu ) . In the one catalogue I have in front of me, there were 60 dogs before Goldens and 20 dogs from the start of group till the Frenchies were on. That sounds very close considering the rings are on opposite ends of the show ground. I'll have to look at a few more catalogues to get an average though.
  20. Know the feeling. We have one bitch here that jumps onto a kennel then into the hydrobath everytime I walk past it. And that could be ten or twenty times a day. But she still keeps jumping in anyway. That's Archer. Every time I go outside he runs to the table on the patio and jumps up. The funny thing is he has never ONCE been brushed on that table, but assumes any table is a grooming table
  21. That's a good idea. I might walk around next weekend and see what is on right at the beginning of the show and well after the Goldens. We are normally judged just before lunch. You know I want a silver dapple mini long! Unfortunately I always miss seeing the Dachies so am thinking they will clash. I might find one for Connor to use in junior handlers though. The Lagotto doesn't really grab me unfortunately. I really like the Fields but when I see them go in the ring I know it's time to go and get the Goldens ready. :D We have very small shows in Queensland and it may only be 5-6 dogs between Fields and Goldens. Sorry, neither do it for me. Yeah I don't know how they do it. I see them running around all the time. Me?...I'm too lazy for that It would be good to find one that doesn't clash too much as it sounds like it is a pain from those of you with more than one breed in other groups.
  22. I still think a springer would be too much for my kids to run, they are shown at a very fast pace. I love clumbers and there are some lovely ones in our group who I admire but they are still rather large. I was looking at smaller breeds under 10kgs. My Shih Tzu is a good size but we don't want the long show coat as we take our dogs everywhere and we live on acerage and there are lots of sticks and things that would get stuck in a long coated dog.
