  1. I have Goldens :D I'm the one with the bright red hair! I thought he was very nice. He gave me ResDCC and Junior of Breed with my boy and nothing with my bitch, but he was polite and showed interest and gave full attention when you were in front of him and I can't ask for more than that. I was outside the ring watching group and thought it was interesting that it was not allowed. If I know the judge isn't interested in my dog I would have preferred to be out of the sun. I appreciate it when they let you relax your dogs into the shade. Are there any other rules that are different that anyone knows of?
  2. Hi all, On Sunday group 3 was judged by a NSW judge. During group he chose his best six and then dismissed the rest of the class. The lady I was standing next to said "we aren't allowed to do that in QLD". Then the show secretary went to the judge and explained that in QLD all exhibitors must remain in the ring until judging is completed. Personally I think in such a hot climate like QLD it would be good if the judge could let us leave if he was not interested in the rest of us as it would save us standing in the heat any longer than necessary. Anyway I am interested in doing some shows over the border in NSW and was wondering if there were any other different rules between the two states like this that someone could point out to me? Thanks
  3. Oooh, this was a dangerous topic to start reading. I have already filled my xmas list in 5 minutes on these sites
  4. She's an Irish Setter. ;) She belongs to a friend of mine and is simply stunning. I'm another one that loves seeing all the results. Well done to the Bracco. I've never even seen one shown here in Brisbane since I've been showing. I would love to meet one in person one day. :D
  5. Just check the protein levels. You need to make sure the protein levels are about 22% and about 12-14% fat for a large breed. I can't stress how important that is. They need to grow slowly, especially for their first 12 months.
  6. Does this part mean they are discouraging getting and breeding from irresponsible breeders? Sounds like it to me. If the puppies parents have to be tested. Sourcing Animals. Guidelines: Dogs and cats, including puppies and kittens, should only be acquired from responsible sources that meet accepted standards including: a) Local Government requires for a breeder permit, where they exist. In Gold Coast City, breeders of animals must meet the standards outlined in this code to be eligible for a breeder permit. b) Standards of recognised Breed Societies. c) Animals supplied are healthy, bright, alert and sociable. d) The supplier is knowledgeable about breed types (the characteristics of the breed, such as size, coat, and temperament) and breedspecific genetic problems, and provides documentation that the kittens’/puppies’ parents and grandparents have been tested (where possible) to ensure they are free of these genetic problems. e) A health care program is provided to breeding stock and litters that includes worming, flea control, vaccination and heartworm prevention, as recommended by a local veterinarian. f) Documentation of health care and medical history is provided with each kitten/puppy, cat or dog. g) A health guarantee is provided
  7. It sounds like the place my sister got her Beagle x pug from. She lives in the ACT and I think it was north of there. It was a commercial breeder which has about 150 dogs. She said it was very clean (they even have a bulldozer for cleaning up all the poo  ). Now I haven't been there but that doesn't sound like a place I'd want to get a puppy from. Maybe explain that it would be better to buy a puppy from a breeder that has the time to put into individual puppies and will be able to give your friend more one on one support than from a large scale operation that seems more focused on profit than matching the right puppy to the right home. It will be hard once she's seen the puppy though.
  8. Oh my goodness, that is a lot. He had a go with a friends Labrador on the weekend and did really well. She said Connor could take him in to handlers to try which was very nice. He is a very well trained and stable Lab, great for a boy who is just getting his confidence up. He still seems very keen on a Tibbie so we might see if he can try one of those too.
  9. She sure did look good out there. She has such a special presence about her when she is in the ring. She really stands out. Well done again
  10. Glad they were both found safely. I like Grateful return and Grand Theft. I also like Got Away Great Escape Gone and Back
  11. I've never heard of that. Some Goldens do get small black hairs in their coat which is a fault. My last show male had a very small patch (maybe 10 hairs) that grew under his chin but was easy to pluck out. They were originally shown as Flat coat retrievers - Golden, to distinguish them from the black flat coats we know today. But by 1920 they were a breed in themselves. Like I said, never heard of a black one being born from proper pedigree golden parents. Do you have a link to the article?
  12. Thinning scissors would work. I don't know if the teeth on a coat king would be close enough to get it very neat.
  13. They sure do, as long as it is already pre loaded with all the tricks like Abby Thanks Rysup, that's what my concern is, group clashing. I think it's best to start him off in junior handlers which is judged at lunch until he finds a breed he is really interested in and can handle and then if we end up owning that breed we might just enter one breed per show and some weekends the Goldens can have it off.
  14. The kids loved all Abby's tricks today :D Thanks for letting them pat her.
  15. Was there a breed in the toy group you are specifically interested in? There is the Aust. Silky, chihuahua and cavalier shows on Sat 17th at Durack and an all breeds show on the sunday 18th september. Don't forget that not everyone is able to sit ring side and there are lots of people down the back as well that you can talk to. It goes in alphabetical order so you are best to approach people when they are not due to go in. An example is if your interested in pugs, talk to them earlier on in the day. The show on the 18th starts at 9am at Durack. I don't know if it's possible (I've always ordered mine) but you could go to the office (opposite the toy ring, 1/2 way down the building) and buy a catalogue ($2.50 for that show) and then you can follow which dogs are in and what order they are and mark the dogs that you like on there.
  16. I'm so sorry for all your loss recently and I am sending you my best wishes for your Dane x.
  17. I've never heard of it. Is it just 12 shows in a row over two weeks? Do they judge every breed every day or are different breeds on different days?
  18. That's a good point. I had Archer's hips and elbows x-rayed yesterday and the form to be sent away asks for a two generation pedigree and his registration number. Maybe it can be the breeds rego number? I don't know.
  19. I totally agree on both accounts. It has been too long since 'Best in show' came out and I can name a couple of characters at the local show that would be excellent to watch As a groomer I would love to do one on a month in a salon and show how neglected some people let their dogs get. It could show some of the consequences in getting an impulse pet shop puppy without taking into consideration what their coat needs would be and also the confusion when they buy a 'non-shedding oodle' only for the owners to find out it sheds everywhere and mats as well!! There is also the fun side of grooming. Having a shaggy, dirty dog come in and go out looking like a million bucks. Maybe one of these ideas I can use for my first major film assignment.
  20. I own a Shih Tzu so can help you out with your questions but have only had contact as a groomer with Maltese. The maltese I groomed were more timid than my Shih Tzu in regards to strangers and other dogs but were great with their families. Now, the Shih Tzu. They are great little dogs with loads of personality. I have three children, 3, 5 and 7 and Daisy loves them although she is definitely my dog. She follows me everywhere at home and wants to be in the same room although she is quite happy to sit on her mat and doesn't feel the need to be right next to me. I have two Golden Retrievers and she loves to rough house play with them and keeps up very well in their games of zoomies around the backyard. Daisy is ball obsessed! She constantly carries her ball around with her and if it squeaks it is even better! I have always found her very easy to train around the home and she is really easy to live with but outside is a different story. Any chance she gets to run she takes and will happily come back when she has finished exploring. At dog training she was more interested in what other dogs were doing than me. She is great at a dog park and will happily socialise with dogs of all sizes. She is protective of our house and will bark when people come over but once inside and she's had a sniff she is happy to greet them and have a pat. I have no concerns with her and my childrens friends as she is very tolerant of all children. I keep Daisy in a short clip and it is very easy to maintain her coat with just a brush of her ears and tail once a week and a bath every second week. You will need to trim them every 6-8 weeks in summer and I leave her for about three months over winter. You can keep them long but it is quite a job of daily combing and weekly conditioning. I originally showed Daisy but her coat was too hard to maintain without restricting all the things she loved to do like go to the beach and go bush walking. She loves water and happily swims in the pool and loves the sprinkler, so the long coats drying time was too much as well. Much nicer to see her be a dog and do all the things she loves. The reason I got Daisy was in my 14 years of dog grooming I haven't met a Shih Tzu I didn't like. They are great little dogs and I will always have one in my life :D
  21. I find www.clipperworld.com.au very reasonable for Wahl scissors.
  22. He is such a stunning dog. What a wonderful keepsake to have of your dog.
