  1. I so wish I could come this year. We had an absolute ball and camping was so much fun last year!!! But it is my son's birthday on the 20th and he gave up a party last year to come so this year we can't make it. I hope you get some more entries. It was so nice to see interstate judges listed as well.
  2. I had just had my second child and was suffering badly from depression (which I didn't know at the time). I came across DOL and saw a listing for Shih Tzu puppies. I had always wanted one and only a couple months before had had to put down my beautiful Shepherd x, Copper, so the timing to get a friend for my Golden Retriever, Ronin, seemed right. The breeder sent me the photos and it was definitely love at first sight. I had to wait a couple of weeks for her to fly down from Townsville, but when she came off the plane I knew I had made the right decision. She is only four days older than my daughter, now 6. :D She was everything to me during those dark couple of months and even though people thought I was crazy to have a puppy with a new baby, she was exactly what I needed. Daisy and I have a very special bond. Archer, my male Golden, is actually Archer 2. But don't tell my kids Archer's breeder was up in Queensland for a commercial with her puppies so I looked at all the boys and chose Archer as my first show dog. A week or so later we went down to Sydney and the litter were still there. That week had made a big difference and there was another puppy that had just gotten better and better. So with lots of convincing I changed Archer 1 to Archer 2. The puppies were down in the breeders kennel and my kids had only seen Archer 1 playing with all his siblings and they all looked like fluffy bundles to them. When it came time to go I brought Archer 2 up to the house. My daughter said "Are you sure that's Archer? He looks dirty and fat." (He was a darker gold) But till this day they are still none the wiser that Archer was swapped!! But back to love at first sight. No it wasn't, it took a couple of days but now I adore my big boof head. Aria came from Tas and I chose her from her photo and advice from her breeder. She was an amazingly beautiful Golden puppy but we are taking a little longer to bond as closely as I have bonded with Archer and Daisy. She is very different to any dogs I have ever owned. She is 7 months and we are slowly getting to know each other. We'll get there. Wow, I have written a lot
  3. How exciting. We always love photos in the Retriever thread ;)
  4. Not a stupid question...I was wondering the same thing Thanks Oakway
  5. The poison from a toad is sticky so needs to be wiped out with a wet washer. Make sure to get under the gums as well and then rinse the mouth out with water once it has been wiped down. I normally do this routine three times to make sure I get it all.
  6. From memory it cost me around $270 to fly Aria from Tasmania to Brisbane. So it shouldn't be more than that from Vic.
  7. OMG your Griffon is gorgeous!!! I love anything with a squishy face and think Daisy is adorable, but each to their own. I start with my Golden puppies in the bathroom when I'm not home as most of the time they just sleep.
  8. I have already warned her about towels and toilet paper being shredded. No chance of convincing her of a Griffon. She thinks my Shih Tzu, Daisy, is ugly and you should have seen her reaction the first time she met my OH's Boston Terrier x Her favourite saying about Jemica was "Are you sure she's supposed to look like that?" She is definitely not into squishy faces.
  9. The patios are tiled and all Mum's pots are HUGE so a dog couldn't reach inside them to dig. Having thought about it a bit more today I think she could quite easily close the bedroom door and put a baby gate into the living/dining room. That was the puppy would have access to the bathroom, kitchen and entrance way (quite big). Would that be big enough? I've tried Persephone to convince her of the benefits of an older dog but she has her mind set on a puppy as we have always had our dogs from puppies. I a keeping an eye out on DOL's mature dog pages in the hope there is one in Sydney for her to go and meet. :D So it is sounding doable. Any things I should tell her to watch out for in the breed, hereditary or temperament wise?
  10. Thank you MissyMoo. I have tried to suggest she gets an older dog but she insists on a puppy. Would a Cairn do better in a kennel outside when she is at work (space to run) or be more suited to being in the bathroom? Toys of course will be provided. :D
  11. I just thought I would let you know there is a gundog show on at Durack this Sunday, if your interested in showing maybe come along and have a chat to people that own springers and setters? The champ show starts at 9am. :D
  12. My mum is starting to look into getting a dog. She lives in a ground floor unit with two very large patios and the dog will be an inside dog. The unit block is approved for pets. We were looking through the breed pages on DOL and she has taken a real shine to the Cairn Terrier. She works full time but walks every morning and afternoon. I don't know much about the breed, I have only met a handful as a groomer, but the ones I met were lovely dogs. Her main concern is their adaptability to living in a unit. Would they be a suitable for a single dog household and being left from around 8.30 am to 5pm each day alone? Thanks in advance
  13. I prefer boys too. My boys have all been smoochie, loving, cuddlepots......My girls are cuddly on their terms
  14. I am happy to take my puppies out one week after their second vacc, but not to overpopulated doggy areas, like a dog park. I know some people say not till after the third but I want my dogs to have as many experiences in the outside world as possible when they are young.
  15. Well Done!!! What a great day you had Beautiful photos too.
  16. Oh my goodness, Rosie is adorable!!! Good luck at the royal!!
  17. Congratulations Paptacular, those first points are so exciting
  18. It's all trial and error and finding what your dog does well on. I'm glad you are seeing some improvement with her eating habits and less smelling poo is always a bonus
  19. I also think Friday would be good as coming into summer we get quite a few Friday night shows up here. Oh and I think we should have a Melbourne Cup one with photos! I love seeing people showing in their cup hats and the strange looks they get from their dogs!
  20. There are only 2 in Australia, the other is in SA. Thanks. I hope they manage to travel to Brissie sometime. :D
