  1. Sorry Ash, I don't get the paper I just read it online. I am about to chuck out some old fabric that I'll never use. Would that help you? Maybe nice and soft?
  2. +1 My three like to take turns chasing and pouncing on each other and then pinning each other down. It can sound really scary but they are the best of friends most of the time. I know my three well so I know when it is getting too rough. Although usually Daisy is the one to step in and stop it And nobody messes with her!!
  3. I went to New Farm dog park for the first time on Sunday. Where at the park are we meeting on Monday?
  4. I have only been to four shows and have already had quite a few stuff ups. My first show and I thought I had stacked my dog well until the judge came over, looked at my dog and said "you don't want his feet like that, do you?" He was doing a great impression of a ballerina. Third show and after trying very hard to get my very lazy dog to run around the ring I decided to use bait. The judge came to go over my dog and looked in his mouth and went "eww he has chicken stuck in his teeth". Note to self.... Do not give dog chicken in the ring immediately before the judge looks over the dog.
  5. I had a shepherd x kelpie and a golden when we lived in Sydney and despite having the best insulated kennel I could find, access to the lounge in the sun room and multiple beds in the laundry, both of them would sleep out on the grass. Sometimes I would come out in the morning and they had bits of frost on their coats. Silly doggies. I wouldn't worry about a coat. As long as he has somewhere to get out of the wind he should be fine. He'll let you know if he's cold.
  6. I didn't see them when I went to the show yesterday. Any Luck with Max?
  7. I can't get past the fact that Coca-cola cures rust And we drink the stuff. (well I don't anymore ) Thanks for posting.
  8. She is adorable :D Congratulations. I knew if you went and saw her you wouldn't be able to walk away without her .
  9. My beloved Golden Ronin was pts two years ago next week and it still breaks my heart. He was the first dog I've stayed with. I think I was too young with the others to be able to cope with staying, but with Ronin I was a bit more grown up and it just felt right. From now on I will stay with my pets when their time comes.
  10. Make sure they put a sign up on the roundabout at Orion. My friend last year lost her puppy at Springfield and a lady picked him up and saw the sign on the roundabout and called straight away. I'll go that way to go to the show at Durack this arvo. Let us know if you find them.
  11. He is adorable Congratulations. Love the photos. You'll have to keep up dating photos of him as he grows up.
  12. The dog that attacked the boy was a husky, they're not on the dangerous dog list are they?
  13. Do they have to be normal doggy colours? Daisy my Shih Tzu is due for another colour change I was thinking pink and purple stripes this winter.
  14. I have a 6, 4 and 1 year old. I have a Golden Retriever and he is perfect for our kids. The 1 year old walks him around the backyard on his lead and has him sit down and have tea parties with her. The four year old, who is wary of large dogs after being knocked down a few times by our GSD x, loves our Golden and happily helps take him for walks and will feed him biscuits and cuddle him. The six year old likes to sit down after school and talk to him as he is so calm and cuddly. Yes he does shed (a lot!!!) but you can't go past a Golden personality. Regards to the other breeds you mentioned in your OP, I can only tell you from my experience knowing people who own these breeds, not from owning them myself. Weim - They can be a little aloof and the ones I've seen have been super active as they grow up and were very jumpy dogs. Standard Schnauzer - I groomed one for a couple of years and she was beautiful and gentle and loving. The owners had a couple of young children and she was great with them. Dalmation - The same family above got a Dalmation when their schnauzer was about 9 months old I think. He was older when they got him and took a long time to mature. He was very jumpy and off in his own little world most of the time But like I said they didn't have him from a puppy and this is the only Dally I have had continual contact with. My vote would be a golden, but I'm a bit Biased
  15. Great post Jed. I love your stories I like to know what my puppies first weeks are like and who his extended family is and that, for me, is what makes buying from a great breeder that you know and trust so valuable. I too would love to hear a story about that weekend when they start going home to their new families. Hint, hint
  16. I have sent you a PM. I'm happy to help with any of my lot if you like
  17. My shepherd x broke two vertebrae in his back when he was about 12 months old and by the time he was two over half of his lower spine was fused. We decided to manage his pain with medication and slowed down his exercise but other than that he was treated like a normal dog. I think I freaked out when it first happened and took him to a couple of different specialists to see what could be done to "fix" him. He proved to me that by watching him and not overreacting to the situation I was able to have a perfectly happy dog who still enjoyed life. He had to be put down when he was about six due to arthritis and being in too much pain and maybe if I had given him the many operations that were suggested by one vet when it first happened he may have lived longer, but I think he lived a great life while we had him.
  18. Me too. I always said I would never have another Golden and definitely never a male one yet there is strangely a 10 month old siting in my backyard.
  19. Ok thinking out loud here. What about a bonds t-shirt? You could cut a little in the front for his boy bits and then cut out two pieces of elastic and sew it from the back to front around his legs to stop it riding up. That way you only have to wash a light T-shirt instead of a heavier jacket every time it gets too oily. Then I like the idea of using light weight curtain fabric. I have a grooming jacket made out of parachute fabric and it is so noisy so I wouldn't be using that. If you find a design you like let me know and I will sew it up for you if you like? Maybe go to Spotlight and have a look if you can find some fabric you think might work. Also a cheap place to get old curtain fabric is at charity shops. I found a great set which I made into pillow covers for 50c
  20. When we were renting I would put in exactly how many dogs I had, breed, their ages, a copy of their current vacc certificate, copy of their current registration with the council and the local obedience club I was a member of. I am also a groomer so I think that may have helped. There was one property that said no pets and I offered a $1000 dog bond and that I would have the place professionally cleaned and fumigated when we left. They never bothered with the extra bond but accepted our application. Good Luck I remember how nerve racking it was applying for a new place. Edited to Add: I also had references from previous landlords and at least one neighbour.
  21. I've moved more times than I care to think about :D I think I've had every floor type imaginable. At my parents house we had polished gloss hardwood floors and a beautiful gold cocker. Her favourite past time was chasing a tennis ball down the main part of the house and then sliding and crashing into the couch at the end She loved sliding around corners and zoomies were very scary to watch. My mum had the floors redone every year because of the scratch marks. But it kept Bonnie happy so she kept doing the floors in gloss. ;) They are slippery and when they are gloss you also see water marks (like when she would come in from drinking and her ears would be dripping all over the floor!!) If you want to keep the floors I would go with a matt finish. I've had carpet (never again). I've had lino (scratches and I am not a real fan). I've had tiles (for me they were a pain in the neck to clean, I also have kids and trying to get weet-bix out of the grout is a nightmare :D ) I currently have laminated timber floorboards (no scratches whatsoever, but..... They are porous so any little spills have to be wiped up straight away or they bubble. The dogs have mats in every room and you have to make sure that they are completely dry before they lay on the floor. I have a nice little bubbled patch where I hadn't dried my Shih Tzu's feet completely.) That's my experience anyway.
  22. If you have someone that is looking for a dog I would suggest sending them to DOL to have a read and ask questions in the breed threads or go to a local dog show first. It can be overwhelming to know who is a good breeder and who isn't but the best thing I've learned is to do as much research as possible.
