  1. Puppies are all different prices and breeders sell their dogs for what they think is right or what they can get. My Shih Tzu came from a smaller town where they weren't that popular and she was pick of the litter for $650 on main register. But others in Brisbane were $800-$1000 at the time. I know when I was looking at Daschunds last year they were around the $1000 mark. Good Luck in your search. They are great little dogs.
  2. Golden Retriever 3 Friday 13 August 2010 8 2 What does the numbers after the date mean?
  3. I have only had dogs from registered breeders or the RSPCA. I got my Shih Tzu from a breeder on DOL but she was anything but ethical. Archer is our new addition (a Golden Retriever) and this is the third dog I have had from this breeder. My first Golden from her was over 11 years ago. She is a true friend and I will hopefully always be lucky to have one of her beautiful Goldens in my life.
  4. I was excited to see an Irish water spaniel and a Lagotto at a show the other week. I had never seen a Lagotto up close and thought for some reason they would be bigger. I'm a bit taken with the water spaniel though.
  5. Most of the time I have had small and large dogs together and they have mostly been fine. Currently I have a Shih Tzu, Golden Retriever (13months) and a new golden puppy. I think it depends on who comes first. I had another golden when I got my Shih Tzu and they were great together. He was so gentle with her and she learn't to wrestle with him from a young age and to tell him when enough was enough ;) My current older Golden came when he was 7 months and he took a while to calm down with her and she definitely let him know when he was being too rough. But years ago, when we had a Boston Terrier x and got a Shepherd x Kelpie from the RSPCA they did not do well together and would only be able to have supervised play. He was way too rough and never knew when to stop, even though we had him from a puppy . They had a few arguments over the years and the Shepherd always came off worse off. Some little dogs have a lot of spunk and are very quick to bite. I think you would have to be careful what breeds you put together. Golden's and Shih Tzu's are great together. Goldens are very tolerant and Shih Tzus have enough spunk to stand up for themselves. That's my experience.
  6. I have a 23 month old, 4 year old and 6 year old and we just got another golden puppy! He is so adorable. I was up each night fixing blankets and getting dropped dummies so it's been easy to take Archer to the toilet at those times. He has his crate set up in my ensuite and when the kids are running around being loud he just takes himself off to his crate for a rest. Even the youngest knows that the crate is out of bounds and never disturbs him. I'm at home at the moment so feeding a puppy lunch is no problem and he loves the car ride to school. Good Luck with your new puppy.
  7. My Shih Tzu used to do that when she was a puppy after going for a wee. I thought she was just being clean and didn't want to step in it She doesn't do it anymore now that she's bigger.
  8. I too have been following the story, thank you for updating us on the outcome. You have done a wonderful thing for these little guys. Well done :p
  9. My street is full of purebreds too. We have Border Collies, Goldens, Labradors, Beagles and Boxers. We also have a few x's as well, but mostly purebreds. BUT.... I was VERY dissapointed to learn that the street next to us has two neighbours who have started breeding Golden x Poodles They used to breed Goldens but I gather they worked out they get more$ for crossing them.
  10. What is everyone's opinions on knee high boots with skirts? I have a great black skirt suit but it is really cold at the moment and I really want to wear black boots with it to keep me warmer. I've never seen anyone else wear long boots in the ring. Is it acceptable?
  11. It is so good to have you back Jed. I'm glad to hear your on the mend.
  12. I would love a cow!!! But we only have 1 acre and it's hilly, not ideal for a cow. I drive past quite a few everyday and admire them from afar.
  13. Yep that's all you need to do. Also kids also follow instruction better when you tell them what to do; rather than what not to do. Say 'walk slowly please' rather than 'don't run'. We (DOLers) like dogs a lot; other people don't necessarily. People who have never grown up around dogs are unlikely to teach their children how to behave around dogs. That is comon sense. I frequently walk my dog up to the school gates and we stand there while several hundred children (primary and infants) go past. And I have not had one problem using the hand out and 'stop' method. All the kids have been gentle with my dog. It makes me sad to hear people talk about children with such venom :D we were all kids once! But I guess a lot of people on here were perfect when they were a kid Couldn't have said it better myself. Agree 100%
  14. I had to google what poddy meant. What breed of cows are they? Do you have any photos?
  15. I'm sorry I don't have the experience to answer. I just wanted to wish Lucy some good thoughts and hope she feels a bit better soon. Big hugs to you and Lucy.
  16. That's great. My dogs love being dried too.
  17. I would. I have dyed Daisy, my Shih Tzu, many times and she loves all the attention she gets. I need a lot more practice to get good enough to turn my retriever into a tiger though. Very well done.
  18. I have a dog with an allergy to chicken and he didn't improve with a fish diet but is great with just lamb and vegies. I noticed a huge improvement after two weeks, no redness. Then after about four weeks his hair, which had been falling out, started to grow back. You should at least see a reduction in the scratching in about 2 weeks I would think.
  19. I've never done a saint, but have done heaps of cavs, my goldens, shih Tzu and even husky's. I don't mind the extra time if it does a good job. I also love drying, I find it very relaxing
  20. The dry kibble is the only processed food I can give my allergy prone dog as it is lamb based and he is allergic to chicken. It is great to have in the cupboard when I run out of raw food for him. He has no upset tummy going from the raw to the kibble. I also use it as training treats for all my dogs.
  21. I've got an old Simpson stand dryer and I love it!! I've had mine for about 13 years, never had it serviced, clean it myself and it has been thrown around in the car and moved from house to house and I have never had a problem with it.
  22. Fantastic news Yay charlie!!! He sure is a little miracle dog.
