  1. It also covers (from left to right) Light Deadgrass, Deadgrass, Sedge and Dark Sedge in Chessies. Urgh, "deadgrass" is not a nice name. :p Yep we also get tan, ash and (wait for it) light brown, brown and dark brown. At least ours is easier. Any shade of golden except for white or red.

  3. This thread is really interesting. I have only recently started showing Golden Retrievers and in my search about the breed I found this interesting webpage about the permissible colours in Goldens. This first photo shows that the samoyed and the setter are not permissible Golden colours The two on each end of this line up are not allowed but anything in between is acceptable.
  4. Hi Willow, I have been a groomer for 12 years. I originally started by working free of charge for a lovely groomer in Sydney. I worked five days a week and my two days off I worked at the groomer. I then was able to cut my days down to four a week and three at the groomers. I did that for 2 years as I learn't nearly every breed clip and slowly bought all my equipment. There are courses around. Try and speak to people who have finished the course and see what they have to say about it. Personally I wanted to be the best I could be and that meant experience before starting out on my own. If you can find someone who will let you learn with them that is even better. Good Luck
  5. I have laminate floorboards throughout the whole house and they are really scratch resistant, hard wearing and the dogs are used to them and don't seem to slip much. When we were deciding on flooring I looked into bamboo. I bought a couple of boards and put them at the entrance to the house for a week. They are really soft and had huge gouges out of them. I spoke to my Mum's friend that has bamboo in her dining room and she said after 6 months they are looking at replacing it as it has scratched so much from the chairs. It also had heaps of dimples in it from peoples high heels when she had people over. Needless to say we decided against bamboo in the end.
  6. I used to groom a pair and I was so in love with those two. They were both very quiet and very affectionate to me and other people but were not too fussed on other dogs. They were more interested in being with each other and happy to watch the other dogs play than to join in. The owner was just interested in keeping them looking tidy and having a good blow dry to get rid of excess coat. Their coat was pretty low maintenance. They are a lovely breed and definitely one I would love to look into more one day. Good Luck in your search.
  7. Thanks guys. I have spoken with a friend and she has offered to handle him for me. Now I can have a good night out without stressing about hurting myself. Thanks again for the advice.
  8. I think it depends also on the individual dog. I used Royal Jelly on my Golden and it gave him a rash and when I went to the next show another Golden breeder had used it and also had a rash on her dog but it was recommended for our breed
  9. Thanks guys. I didn't think it was a rule as such. I think I might see if someone else can help me out with him this weekend as I will probably be nervous of hurting myself and Archer might feel that down the lead which is the last thing I want to do to him.
  10. Hi everyone, I had surgery on my unlar nerve on my left arm last Friday. I have been doing really well and it is healing nicely but it is still very weak. I have two shows this weekend and as the hospital postponed my surgery I had already entered and am still wondering if I should go? I have a four month old Golden retriever who is going through that excitable and unpredictable puppy stage. You know perfect when we are training at home and crazy excited when we get to the ring My question is can you show a dog on the right hand side? I know I will be in between the judge and the dog. Is it going to confuse the puppy if it's only for one weekend? I train on both sides at home to get him use to heeling on both sides so he is not too fased if I change it up. I am not too concerned that I will lose as it is more of a social outing for myself (and a day out without the two legged children ) . I just want to know if it's a rule that they have to be on the left? Thanks
  11. Wow great photos. She looks like a real sweet heart.
  12. I hope everything goes well for your little one today.
  13. Awesome news. Thanks for updating this story I have been following it from the beginning. I'm glad they are now happily together
  14. It would be waaayy out of character for a Cavalier to bite. They love people, particularly children. I walk my Cavs past the local kindergarten and often it's when the morning kinder is over and Mums are picking up their kids. All the kids run over to my dogs, the Mums know their kids are not at risk of being bitten. All the little kids know my dogs names. The kindergarten is fenced in but the car park and surrounding lawn and plant area out front isn't. Gotta say I think it's cruel to tie out a Cavalier. They're such gentle, sweet dogs. I'd be telling the owners their dog is getting loose. Cavaliers have zero road sense and the little dog will get hit by a car. True it would be out of character but we are talking about a dog left tied up for who knows how many hours on end. Who knows how stressed it would get? Or if it is getting tormented while being tied up out the front of the house. I think if a dog can get outside it's property, if it's tied up or not, the owners should definitely be told.
  15. Maybe just drop a note in the letterbox. I'm gathering it is still on a long rope but can go outside the front of the property? What if a child was walking close to the dogs boundary and it jump too close and bit it? I would definitely let the owners know.
  16. Hugs and healing vibes to your furkids and you.
