  1. I have retrievers and I swap them to large adult formula from about 4 months. I believe it helps to slow their growth and with a breed prone to hip and elbow problems I would prefer they didn't have huge growth spurts like can sometimes happen on puppy formula. I go on the recommendation of my breeder and vet so I would ask yours and see what they suggest for your breed.
  2. He's fantastic. I love the rocking horse too. I think I've just found a new use for mine.....I'll teach the dogs to use it!
  3. That's me in the morning when I'm getting the kids ready and I put my toddler in her sisters school uniform.
  4. Archer has just turned 12 months so I have been wondering when to have it done. I'm not planning to use him at stud any time soon so I think I might wait another 6 months. 18 months sounds like it's a good age.
  5. Yay! I was curious too. Off Topic (sort of) We got our first purebred, registered Cocker through an ad in the paper. First place we looked.
  6. I love the first one too. Great pics
  7. I'm so sorry you are faced with this decision. I have made the hard decision a few times before and I believe the greatest gift I can give to any of my dogs is to have the strength to know when enough is enough and let them go while they still have their dignity and before the pain becomes unbearable for them and they loose their quality of life. Again....I'm sorry
  8. I agree with Clyde but also wanted to add, make sure it is a long tooth comb preferably with one side with the teeth closer together than the other. Metal combs are the best as plastic breaks too easily. Good Luck with your new puppy :D
  9. I had a bullmastiff x who had very severe allergies which caused many temperament issues. His most dangerous side effect was when he was so uncomfortable he would be fast asleep and then wake up quickly and snap at whatever was near him. When he was having a bad reaction to something he would also pace a lot. He was cranky all the time at the other dogs and wasn't interested in being patted when he was suffering badly. Then I would find out what had caused the latest reaction or I would never find out and the symptoms would ease on their own and he would be back to his loving, playful, happy self. My friend has a dalmation x that was dumped on her by a relative as supposedly he was uncontrollable. She put him on a wheat/colour/preservative free diet and he is now an absolute dream to live with. I think diet can play a big part.
  10. No she is from Izzy and Dutch. I'll PM you the details. Good Luck on the 28th, Aria's first show is the 4th.
  11. I agree about watching the groups in front of you to see what the judge is after. Some judges love to run dogs and make you run and run and run.....then I know not to eat just before going in the ring.
  12. Here is my new rising star of 2011. Kaparla Ohso Lah Di Dah, "Aria" She was 9 weeks on Friday and I can't wait to get her out in the ring.
  13. My first doggy job was working in a Sydney PP store. I have learnt a lot since then! I have been a dog and cat groomer for 14 years but last year I had to have surgery on my ulnar nerve due to damage after years of grooming. Unfortunately that was the end to my professional grooming career. I have had a very successful salon in Sydney and two in Brisbane. Now I just get my fix by grooming my Shih Tzu, Daisy, poor thing probably has a breed identity crisis with the amount of different breed cuts she has had since I shut my salon. I now just groom friends dogs and teach new groomers but I would like to maybe go back to the grooming competition ring after my arm heals. I was an obedience instructor at my club in Sydney but haven't really got involved with the current club I am a member of here in Brisbane. I also had a doggy bakery business about 10 years ago and would make dog biscuits and sell them to my grooming clients, at the markets and at the local pet shops. It was fun coming up with the ideas (and my dogs loved being taste testers ) but I didn't get much money for the time I put in, so I gave up after about 18 months. I currently show Golden Retrievers and am loving the show ring. I am now at Uni studying media and still have the tag as the crazy dog lady. Once you've been involved with dogs I don't think you ever shake that.
  14. But the puppy was scanned and found not to have a chip. If they have paperwork it must have a sticker from the chip on it to be valid. Sounds very strange to me.
  15. I don't think they are painful, but my dog has never told me otherwise I had a kelpie x shepherd in Sydney who always got ticks when we went bush walking and they never fazed him. I would pull them off and there would be a tiny red mark (like a mozzie bite) and it would be gone the following morning. He never scratched at the tick site or licked it which I would have thought would be the sign that it was causing him distress.
  16. I have all the grooming equipment, collars and leads and stuff I take to dog shows in the garage. I have so much stuff from when I shut down my salon that it takes up half the wall from floor to ceiling. I then have a cupboard with lots of shelves in the laundry with all their food (in plastic containers), toy box with inside toys (soft toys), new toys on the top shelf, blankets and more towels. And lastly they have another toy box outside on the patio for outside toys like frisbees, tennis balls, old soccer balls etc
  17. My Golden retriever puppy is coming up from Tasmania to Brisbane tomorrow and it is costing $170 through Jetpets.
  18. I'm sorry to hear that he has had to go back into hospital. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
  19. Dallas looks gorgeous, congratulations and best of luck with her. Are you coming to the nationals in June? My little girl should be here from Tasmania tomorrow or Friday. When she gets here I will add her pic up.
  20. I totally agree with Crisovar. I have tried some of the recommended foods on DOL thinking maybe there was something better for my dog than what I was feeding but in the end my Golden does best on Optimum, so that's what I'm sticking too. Do you think you can sneak in some photos of the puppy when it arrives? I'm a bit of a sucker for riggie babies.
  21. I'm sorry this has happened. But as others have said, dogs will be dogs. I've had my Shih Tzu kill three of our chickens in less than two minutes because my OH didn't shut the gate to the chook pen all the way. It was horrible to watch but I was so angry at my OH, not Daisy. We now have a very secure pen and she has worked out there is no way on earth she can get in and she now leaves them alone. You can make it work if you choose to get your step daughter more GP's.
  22. It just has obedience results listed at the moment.
  23. ;) I think he looks jealous and pissed off! Great shot. Huga suggested it looked like Ralph was about to but in the shoulder and push Simon down the stairs. I think so too. He looks like he is whispering in Simon's ear "I'm watching you, mate. One wrong move and your mine"
