Look What They Have Done To Our Dogs.
rebelsquest replied to Sandy46's topic in General Dog Discussion
Provide some stats that suggest careless breeding (like.. 30% of show greyhounds carrying the gene for neuropathy- not being alive after 12 months definitely impacts on function) and then perhaps you'd have a valid argument. If being willing/able to chase well is not the breed's function, then I'm afraid I'm a little confused about what they're intended for. A dog needs to have drive, they need to have the ability to see that drive through. They are a hunting dog- see it, chase it, grab it. The vast majority of (racing bred) greyhounds I've dealt with have had sufficient drive and ability to do what they were intended for. Those that don't are not bred from. To be blunt here, this argument makes me distrustful of people who breed for show. If they are unwilling to admit (when it is painfully obvious) that they need to go back several steps to address some major issues, then they are either unable to look objectively at their breed (in which case, they shouldn't be breeding) or they are knowingly ignoring the issues (in which case, they shouldn't be breeding). I've asked before where you get your stats about greyhound neuropathy and you nver answered. I am asking again. Where do you get your information from? Greyhounds are tested before being bred or cleared by parentage. Not a single breeder of show greyhounds I know is ignoring neuropathy. Unlike the racing industry which will breed anything to anything in pursuit of the next big winner. I.E they don't care if the dog is blind by 7 from pannus, as long as it wins. Or the ones that suffer from arthritis by 5 because they were poorly conformed but they had the heart to run through the pain barrier, again and again. Not to mention the thousands detroyed before they get to the race track becuase they don't break in well enough or fast enough. Plus one to Rebanne's post. HA, you quoted these stats in a previous thread, were asked multiple times to provide a source, and either couldn't or chose not to. Please either provide a source, or stop throwing around incorrect stats. In Australia, the quoted figures are certainly incorrect. -
Please tell me I've misinterpreted your Facebook post and Lucky is not being moved again?!

Yes, the attack is concerning to everyone. I would however like to point out that the "recent" attack happened in October.

very misleading when the FB page states founded in 2011 Seems that has been amended now to 2012...

This was all suggested MUP, either earlier in this thread or in the other one. When suggested, Greylvr stated she wasn't interested in fostering for another rescue.

I understand that. I also plan to get into contact with GSN and see if they would like to chat a bit after the holidays, maybe give some pointers, maybe once settled see if they need help, a foster, or any transport help or home checks. We just arnt doing any of it until after the new year. So your finally going to do what was suggested you do BEFORE you took in a dog. This is blunt, and no doubt you will take offense, but if you had LISTENED to what people had to say and done this (and more) originally, you wouldn't have had these problems, and two dogs wouldn't have had to be moved again. Poor dogs are no doubt confused.

A Challenge For Neuter Lovers
rebelsquest replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great looking forward to another in the hound ring. The other Vic hound will look forward to competition in Vic, otherwise we have to go interstate to find it! :D -
I like to thing that in today's society, more and more people are keeping their cats contained. I know this is the case in the circles I move in. Unfortunately, as with irresponsible dog owners, the actions of a few taint everyone.

I just want to point out, as others have in this thread, that you cannot legally rehome them until the microchip details are in your name. Yup we know that will all be settled before they are rehomed to permanent homes. Good to hear, just checking due to the make your own paperwork comment.

You asked for someone to take Ina, then posted that Marina would be taking her, and it was sorted. When asked about Lucky, you said she was with a friend, and you would find out how long the friend could foster her for. But you didn't ask for help finding somewhere for Lucky, just Ina. I really think you need to re read this thread when you are in a better frame of mind. It sounds like you've had a hell of a few days, which may explain why you are jumping to the conclusion that people are being nasty to you, which is truly not the case.
-
Again, there is no smear campaign, stop making this about you. You said on FB you had already placed the dogs, the question was asked here around the welfare of the dogs. To say no one here was concerned about the dogs is firstly, insulting and secondly, completely not true. All posts have been around the welfare of the dogs, until you came on and have tried to turn it into some vendetta against yourself.
-
No I know your not trying to make it hard but some here just need give it up I know there are drama queens but jeez taking joy in one persons stressful time is just a nasty thing to be proud of. NO ONE is taking joy in the dogs having a rough time of things. Take a deep breath, have a cup of tea and re read the thread when you have a cooler head.
-
Oh for goodness sake, you are back on about people being "nasty" to you. Not one person was being nasty, everyone has been concerned about the dogs. You are the one making this about you. The dogs are being shipped around from pillar to post, and you can't be surprised that is raising eyebrows. Also, hadn't Lucky just finished weaning pups? And the trainer was going to euth her? So who desexed her and when ?

I took that as looking for a foster carer or forever home... No - it wasn't that post Rebanne was referring to. It was posted in a greyhound FB group that there were issues with a neighbour and the dogs had to be moved ASAP, one was already in at boarding kennels - but the cost was an issue. My understanding is one is with a different neighbour or a friend, and one is going to another rescue. But that may be incorrect.
-
It's not unusual for a home to not be compatible with dogs after they have arrived. They're still safe with the Rescue so I don't see the drama? Oh I thought they meant, went to another rescue. I'm not sure it's really clear at the moment, maybe Greylvr will be back at some stage and may choose to clarify.

I read through, where does it say they've been moved on? It doesn't on DOL, it does in a Facebook group.

This has been posted on Facebook and OzShow, important info for Dogs Vic members. Please check your bank statements carefully. This should never have happened, hope they are putting in some strict controls around information disposal. Copied from Denise Bristow I am bringing to the attention of All VCA Members there has been a breach of Privacy. Information belonging to members was placed in bins out side the VCA office on the 7th Of December. There was 5 days of financial transactions. This was found on the 9th of December at VCA Big Dogs Day Out. I advise anyone who has had any type of financial involvement with the VCA from the 3rd- 7th December 2012. Check their bank accounts. We have met with the CE of Dogs Victoria Marie Deagan. She has since organized 6 security bins for the office and assured us that this will never happen again.
