But if your going near the beach he'd get wet anyway, wouldn't he!! He'd love to be with you, it doesn't worry him that its raining... (only problem is a wet dog smell travelling for an extended time in the car). Does he have a raincoat! I don't think you'll have a problem with him being bored, if you are doing stuff, and it will all be out doors, he will enjoy your company.

I believe most would be desexed and pet homed these days, as long as there are no health issues. With the bullies, it's just the colour and not a health issue.

Any particular reason for the colour being undesirable that you know of? one theory I've been told, is that the black and tan and black, will dominate most other colours and eventually we will only have black/ black and tan bulldogs. Also noted was when the breed was first developed, refined and shown, anything with black was probably from an outcross to the black terrier therefore "was not a pure breed' so was disqualified from competition, as for the liver nose (dudley) it pops up regularily, they eyes and nostrils are not dark/ black as the standard requires, and in all my books the only reference I have, "a law made in 1884 by the bulldog club incorporated, at a general meeting, and passed by ten votes for, to three against, Dudley nosed dogs and bitches were excluded from competition at all shows." "There is no doubt but that at one time the Dudley or liver coloured-nose was a recognised bulldog property, and was as common amoung the dogs as the black nose was rare. By careful breeding experiments, continued over a period of some thirty years, the Dudley nose has almost been bred out of existence, but not quite, however." dated 1905. Still does't tell me too much either..

Also, highly undesirable is dudley, or liver nosed, they have lighter eye colour.

I am certain, these laws will pass, if not this time, then in the not too distant future, it's all about revenue for the govt. I have no idea on how to work with this without blowing $1000's of $'s, on top of what I have spent trying to produce a beautiful healthy bulldog to show... therefore, I'm bowing out.

LAWS TO STAMP OUT ROGUE PET BREEDERSFrom the Minister for Agriculture Saturday, 04 September 2010 Victorians who breed puppies or kittens inhumanely risk having the animals seized and their operations shut down under tough new standards to be introduced by the Brumby Labor Government. Agriculture Minister Joe Helper said animal welfare laws relating to the breeding of dogs and cats will require breeding establishments to register as a domestic animal business if they have five or more fertile female dogs or cats from which they are going to breed. Mr Helper said these new standards mean it is not just businesses who want to make a profit from breeding animals who would have to register their business. “Most people breed animals in a responsible and humane way but there are some elements in the industry that exploit animals,” Mr Helper said. “We will introduce legislation to increase penalties, from $1195 to almost $2400, for pet breeders who don’t register with council as a domestic animal business or that don’t comply with a Code of Practice.” Mr Helper said there was currently more than 70 registered commercial breeding domestic animal businesses in Victoria and these new regulations will make it easier to monitor who is breeding pets in Victoria and that they are doing it in a way that is acceptable. “This will help stamp out rogue operators from the pet-breeding industry and make it easier for local councils to shut down and seize animals from pet breeders who are not acting within the law,” he said. Mr Helper said key measures the Government would take include: Providing councils with the ability to shut down and immediately seize animals from pet breeders who aren’t treating their animals humanely; Doubling the penalties for pet breeders who don’t register as a domestic animal business from $1195 to $2389; Doubling the penalties for pet breeders who don’t comply with the Code of Practice from $1195 per breach to $2389; Changing what is defined as a domestic animals business from a minimum of 10 cats or dogs for breeding purposes to five; Applying these laws to pet breeders who don’t intend to make money from their operation so all pet breeders are covered; and Ensure specialised support from the Department of Primary Industries’ Bureau of Animal Welfare for local Councils to provide training and advice on detection, compliance and prosecution. Mr Helper said the Government would work closely with councils, animal welfare groups, peak animal breeding associations and pet industry associations to manage these changes. “We will develop and promote a ‘smart pet buyers’ guide’ in partnership with these same organisations, to give Victorians the best and most up-to-date advice to ensure their purchase of a pet is from a shelter or registered breeder complying with our standards,” he said. I do wonder though, where he got his information from, surely he doesn't believe everything he's told?? Or by the sounds of it, he does... their girl will most likely have a healthy litter and he will continue carrying on about how wonderful cross breed are, cause they do it all on their own.. Hi Nekhbet, I've literally just stumbled accross your thread.. .. when are you going?? we are in Geelong and OH has 2 (dirty stinking weasels) or should I say ferrets! He'd be very keen to take them out but I couldn't figure out when you were going. If you haven't been yet or even if you are still going could you let me know. We both like to go but don't know of many places in Geelong, the last property we were working is now being developed for housing or roads...

Everything in a nutshell T-Time. Take the job first, settle yourself AND then if you want your four legged friend, get your parents to help you send them over. You might move over, hate the job and be home before your dog is out of quarantine!! Enjoy your adventure!!

Definately a cause for concern. We prefer to keep our girls but I was considering this option down the track, if the right people came along. My OH always says" you can't trust anyone" and I think he's right. Soooooo we will still hold our girls and hope for the best.

Carparking wasn't as bad as I'd thought. there was parking on the oval for trailers and enough, in the grounds..

No and No. Have been asked in the past, just before entering the ring and felt very awkward walking into the ring but I beleive it's up to the judge to decide, not me! I also think the more competition the better, hopefully the judge will see what is consistently correct in the breed, and not award a win to a dog when they don't understand the correct breed standard.

My thoughts are with you, how horrible. BUT it does sound as if you got it in time (Fingers crossed) I didn't realise you could save a dog from poisoning, I honestly thought they were finished (as I didn't know about the treatment), but it's amazing to think with the right treatment , at the right time, you have every possiblity of having them both pull through. I'm sending heaps of positive vibes your way, you've done the right things at the right times so It's going to be ok. Thanks for posting it too, I wouldn't have know that there were options if I didn't read it. Also get all the baits out of your house, it's not worth the risk. (Although I think you would have already!)
