Dry Food That Does Not Contain Wheat, Corn Or Soy?
Austerra replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Canidae ALS - $100 15.9 kg, $67.60 6.8 kg, $28.75 2.27 kg. Nutro rep should be able to send out samples as they do have them. Maybe pop up to Beaconsfield. -
They do only come in one size to fit 34 - 56 cm neck, 20 mm wide. Depending where you are I can order them in, I'm at Beaconsfield.

Yep still available, they are called "half web-check" in the "fancy dress" range. Can get 12 different patterns.

Most people don't realise where pet shop puppies come from, they do think they are from "woops" litters, just need to point out how many "woops" litters this would have to be and it gets them thinking. I always explain puppy farming and push the "supply and demand", so that they understand if people keep buying from these sources that puppy farms will keep existing (unless RSPCA can hopefully shut them down through their current campaign) I often get people coming in to my shop looking for pups, when you ask what breed they are after they often "just want a pup"!!!! Or ones that have a breed in mind I ask why that breed, what their life style is like, tell them some reasons why that breed may or may not suit and often suggest other breeds that may be more appropriate. Of course I always point them in the direction of DOL to further research, along with breed club sites and good breeders if I know someone with the particular breed they are looking for. I had a couple come in the other day, asked "you don't sell animals?" when I asked what they were looking for they replied "just want to see if something takes our fancy". They didn't even want a particular type of animal, now that is an even bigger worry.

Do Any German Shepherd Owners Have One Of These Beds?
Austerra replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
They probably are the highest selling bed that I carry in my store. -
Haha, when i was doing some lab work, there were 2 vet pathologists there as well describing a case- neither knew what a "belgian malinois" was- i had to explain lol! I felt like such a dog nerd When I was volunteering at RSPCA a dog came in that the admissions people and vet had decided was a "husky x corgi", I let them know that it was a Swedish Vallhund and maybe to contact some breeders may get it back to its owners. I find it a bit of a shame when people ask what my Aussie Terriers are!!!!!!!!!!!

Some dogs seem to prefer the black ones over the white. Little tip - fill with meat and veg mix then freeze, nice healthy treat "ball".

Although biased of course, an Aussie terrier. Fun loving, good watch dog without being yappy, not nippy, easy to train (although being a terrier it can be a bit of selective hearing, especially if they get a scent of something more interesting!!), very happy to curl up on your lap in front of the telly, easy to groom as a pet just run a comb through couple of times a week. Take everything in their stride, big dog in small package. Also, kelpies, which my kids grew up with over 25 years. Extremely easy to train, they seem to know what you want of them before you teach them, easy coat care, little to no doggy odour, run a brush over occassionally especially when shedding at change of seasons. Not too boisterous, but will play as long as the kids want to, no problems with them wandering off if gate accidently left open. Main thing is to train from the moment it comes to you, they need to feel that they have a job to do. Don't necessarily need acreage but need to be mentally stimulated.

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
Austerra replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mustn't forget that there are people with ligitimate reasons for rehoming, usually after a lot of thought and at heartbreak, ones that feel it is in the best interests of the animal to go to somewhere more suitable for its needs. -
Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
Austerra replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am afraid "having a baby" is just too common, the pets are often older animals that have been part of the household (in some form or another) for 8, 9 10 years. I ask them if they are going to rehome the first child when they decide to have a second one!!!! -
How To Get Rid Of A Mouse Problem With Out Affecting The Dogs
Austerra replied to BustaGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
We had a bad mice plague years ago, traps were to no avail. We ended up throwing bait (ones that look like meat cubes) in the roof cavity and under the house (the dogs and cat can't get into either area), never seen a mouse since. -

Please Help. My Daughter Is Terrified Of Our Dog.
Austerra replied to boxerfamily's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree with others that boxer probably wasn't the best choice of breed for your daughter or as first time dog owners yourselves. I was scared stiff of dogs when I was around your daughters age and my older sister would walk around the block to avoid a dog, I ended up with Dobes, kelpies and aussie terriers and my sister with rotties. Hopefully it will just be a matter of her growing past the phobia. -
No wonder you want to keep them all, just tooo cute

I have sold people doggie prams before for the same reason. There are a couple of guys that live near us that have wagons attached to the back of their bikes too, one is for a cav the other for an ACD. It is lovely to keep them involved in something they love doing with you.
