  1. We have a questions regarding heartworm pills. Should we start our puppy on the pills as soon as we've brought her home (8 weeks old)? or later? A friend recommended Dimmitrol daily for our sheltie, should I get the Small (50mg) or Medium (200mg)?
  2. thank you very much for pointing out. Guess now we should think about it alittle more carefully.
  3. Thank you *cowanbree* and *jr_inoz*, very helpful information =) I too think the 'de-sexed prior to sale' is a very good idea, wish ours was done before we bought her =P
  4. May I ask usually when would it be the best time to have a sheltie puppy (or puppies in general) desexed?
  5. Thank you for the advice =) I was too thinking with the very beautiful thick coat how am I gonna know if she becomes overweight? And yes we will keep in mind about not overfeeding her. Will sure post pics once she arrives. I understand that diet is not breed specific and will sure keep reminding myself that. And I posted the question hoping to get more knowledge on which brand is better in terms of nutrition, food quality, and food safety etc, so that I will have some idea as to what I should look for when buying dog food in the future. Just wanted to learn as much to get myself more prepared for our future sheltie Keep sharing your experience with me~ and let's do it in a happy and dog-loving way!
  6. Thank you everybody for the great advice!!!! We definitely will follow the breeder's diet for the first few weeks and will see if we need to gradually change it to something else/better but at least now we have a better idea as to what kinda of food we should be looking for
  7. My friend has recently got a sheltie puppy and I am getting one soon too, have been to our local petbarn for some preparation today before bringing the puppy home, and got too overwhelmed by all the brands available. At the moment we are considering Royal Canin and Nature's Gift, but Nature's Gift only have canned food that is specifically for puppies. Just wondering what our shelties on DOL are eating? which one is better for shelties?
  8. This reminds me of my first dog, who cried...actually barked ALL NIGHT non stop... Because she barked so loud I could not get to sleep so I eventually had to get up and see her after 1-2 hrs of barking. She kinda stopped for a bit but continued barking once I left... that whole week was painful... (not for me, for my neighbours tho ) We are planning on getting a puppy very soon, and hopefully this time we can do better. Its great to read a thread like this. We were to set up a huge area in our living room for our future puppy but looks like I should consider setting her crate next to our bed too for the first few weeks
  9. Thanks for the great article, this helped us prepare for our new puppy alot better =)
