MAD ~ They say the naughtiest puppies make the greatest adults. Well that goes in the human world, so might work in the dog world too. My kids were pains when young, now they are a pleasure to be with I hope you get your Newfie soon Jess ~ We might get our pups around the same time.....the female is due to have her pups at the end of April, they go to their new homes at 8 weeks, so end of June, early July. We can count down together. One of the ladies on the Pug thread had asked me if I am going to show my pup....I said no as I wanted her desexed....but apparently they show neutered dogs now.....so I am thinking of it. I have never done this before, so not sure if I'm up to this or not. Might be nice to have a puppy win ribbons......I don't care even if its a 3rd place.....but wow wouldn't that be nice? So I am looking into it at the moment Ghee I can get talked into anything BF

Oakeydoak1 ~ I am so sorry, I had to put my 11 month old pup to sleep too in January. Its heartbreaking as you find it harder to accept you have to do this so young....way before they grow old and get ill. Its not fair. Belgian Blue ~ I feel for you. Its a rotten thing to have happen, but like it has been said maybe this wasn't the pup for you. Yours is just round the corner I'm sure of it. Just be patient.....I know thats hard to do. Good Luck with the next one. Winterpaws ~ Belgian Blue never bad mouthed anyone, they were upset about being offered a pup then having their hearts broken by having it snatched away. Maybe you should re-read their post. Hollysmum ~ Good Luck with your cat. I tend to just let them settle by themselves. It makes it easier when they come to you. Then at least you know they are ok about it. Jess ~ YAH your back. I wondered where you had got too I'm in the same boat as you.....waiting...I'm waiting for the female to have her pups so I can find out if she has a little fawn girl.....another 4-6 weeks until I know. I am supposed to be studying but I can't concentrate, I'm too excited about PUGS....... Chat soon BF

I loved the 3 Musketeers, I hope you get your trio one day It looks like if I can't get my Pug pup by the end of this month I will be waiting until June to get one 2 females are pregnant, one with blacks and one with fawns. These are the next lot on my breeders list to have pups at the end of next month, so depending on when the pups go to their forever homes, it should be the end of June, early July. So :D I am absolutely stoked, just hope there is a fawn girl amongst them wow I just didn't realise it would be so soon.....YIPEE!!!!! BF

My daughter is nearly 21 and she has Aspergers (High Functioning Autism), every dog she has ever met, she would run up to and cuddle, even those who I was wary of. I would try and stop her but she was a handful growing up and would escape. But she has NEVER been bitten by a dog. They just seem to know she would never harm them. She shows no fear only love towards them. I think they know she is different and treat her more gently. So yes my daughter has amazed me over and over again by her love of animals great or small, and the trust she has for them has been returned ten fold to her. Its so wonderful to see any dog who will go to a human unconditionally and not judge them for who or what they are....shame us humans aren't so accommodating sometimes BF

Casey is gorgeous, I love the colour of the eyes and the multi colour of the nose, so cute Porthos is so handsome.....will there be an Aramis (?) BF

Thank you for the the condolences about my son Niques ~ Glad your getting the welcome home greeting you were hoping for....lol MAD ~ That is fantastic news, a huge congrats. And a brown girl too, ok not the Newfoundland you wanted but sometimes when we wish for something it may not be exactly what we wanted, but you got your brown girl as you wished. I can't wait to see pics and hear what you have called her JaxD ~ I have an SLR 450D and every time I got it out take pictures of Annie she would sit at my feet and not move, just looking up at me. She loved having her picture taken. I have tons of action shots and some good ones.....hold on... She was running and she looked so funny, like she was crazy. When ever I go to take one of my cat she hides, she hates the camera. I love the SLR it takes fantastic pics and well worth the money. I contacted 9 breeders of Pugs last night, 2 came back as wrong email addy's. And 4 replied, there is one 5wk old fawn female available if I want her.....not sure what to do. I have my sons wedding to go to on the 27th March and we are staying overnight.....so I can't get the pup before this. I'd love this one as the dates are perfect....but...2 things. 1. OH got a large Bonus from work....YAH that pays for the puppy.... 2. We don't know when he will get it....ARGHHHHHH So when we get a pup now rides on when OH gets this Bonus....so days, a week I reckon at most. Might get him to ask when the Bonus comes in....then we can make definite plans....wish us luck BF

Hi, I'm back after being admitted to hospital yesterday the last time I was admitted to that hospital I lost our son at 21 weeks, so its not a nice place to be stuck in. I have been poked and prodded all day. I had to have my heart monitored, I also had heaps of blood tests. That was at 9am and they sent me to the ICU room, then all the tests they did that morning had to be repeated again, but because of taking the Nitro spray my blood pressure dropped and they couldn't find a vein in my arms to take blood, but after 7 attempts they did it. Needless to say I'm black and blue. But all the tests came back negative, so it wasn't a heart attack, which was very reassuring. So I had to go to my oldest daughters place and pick up both my girls, get some dinner and get home. So after a very boring and exhausting day, I flaked it instead of coming on here. Today is another day and washing has to be done.....so nothing changes. But everything is better now. I hate having a bad heart, you just never know what might happen....I'll be glad when OH gets his retirement, then I don't have to organise everything myself. Awwww Hemi is gorgeous. He's just so sweet. I agree a pup can heal the heartbreak when your best friend passes. I lost my pup at 11 months old in January this year. We weren't going to get another dog, but its so lonely without one, and its like theirs something missing....that only another pup can fill. Ok thats it for me. BF

Thanks for the replies, Just a thought on not hearing the pups in the lounge...what about a baby monitor? That way you can hear them regardless. Might be worth looking into. The main reason I want to leave the pup in the lounge is it will be warmer and cooler in there, than in the bedrooms. As I can leave the aircon on all night. The aircon for the bedrooms is too noisy (its very old) so once we are ready to go to bed, it gets switched off. OK I am off to the hospital, I have been having chest pains all morning and my Nitro spray has not touched it. I'll be back soon. BF

Niques ~ I have the list, just not all the money yet I know of 2 breeders that have litters.....I wish we could approach them now, but I'd hate to make inquiries without being able to put a deposit down. But hopefully in a month maybe two I can approach a few near me. At least with them being so close I can see the pups mum and hopefully dad as well....and they more than likely will be seeing the same vet too, so thats another less worry. BF

Thank you Lily, OH, the girls and I had a serious talk on finances and puppy waiting times (as in having to get the money to get the pup then wait for a pup thing) and we now realise we just can't afford to get a French Bulldog, so we rethought the whole breed thing again and have come up with a new breed of dog, that is easier to get, a 1/4 of the price and that makes it a sooner to get puppy.....we are getting a Pug. There are 9 breeders here in SA alone, and one that is only 30 minutes away I got the breeders list from the Pug Club of SA. So your right Lily, I have to stop over thinking everything I do, not a good idea when you have a bad heart to start with. I'm hoping the pup will help me calm down a bit....like walking, cuddles, play, cuddles, training, cuddles, and showing her off and more cuddles. What do your think? I think a pup is a great calming medication in itself. I'm fine with the TT, its everyone else that gets ticked off when it comes to their turn  As for the crate, ours will be in the lounge too. I was going to put it in the bedroom, but I was told this wasn't a good idea as the pup gets so used to you being there, that one day when your not, the pup frets I too worry if I can hear them or not, but Pugs have a bl**dy loud cry so that shouldn't be a problem Ok I am feeling so much better, thanks again Lily for the vent.... BF

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the congrats :D MAD ~ Yes it does seem like its that far away, you'll never see that day get here.....but it will, I just hope it all goes according to plan for you. So if its a November arrival, you get to get an early Christmas present how exciting Well at least you can unload on here and I'll stick with you, as it seems our pup will be set back further too its heartbreaking, but I keep saying to myself thats a bit longer we have to finish the yard and get everything ready. Not having an actual date makes it so much harder to count down too.... Costasmum ~ I bought a bed from "Cheap As Chips" (thats a store in SA, not sure if they are interstate) it cost me $25 and has a removable cover for washing.... it fits into a 36in crate, and kinda goes up the sides a bit, so its bit more snug. I got this as I know the pup might wee and poo on it while being TT, so I will get a better one later after the TT has been accomplished Poomother ~ Welcome I wish there was a section on DOL that everyone could write in feedback for that company, bed, dog food, breeder, breed, transport, etc etc so the novices like most of us, could just have a look and see "Oh they are highly recommended I'll go there" or "No way am I spending money on them" it would make it so much easier. I have been doing what I do best....thinking and worrying.....I keeping thinking we may never have the money to buy the French Bulldog I so desperately want. If we get the money can I justify spending so much on a pup. Wouldn't a cheaper breed we better....if I got a cheaper breed I could get one sooner....what happens if the pup gets sick like my last pup, I paid $1200 for her and only had her 8mths and most of that time she was ill, with vet bills we spent another $2,000+ on her and finally she was PTS.....I'm so scared of going through this again, of spending this amount of money for a pup and then medical bills and then the gut wrenching heartache at the end ;) I wanted a Frenchie before we got our last pup, but it was so expensive, that I just got the same breed of dog we had before (who also died of cancer, though at 8yrs old) as we knew the breed and loved their temperament. I just don't want to make a big mistake, that I will regret for the rest of my life I hate thinking and worrying.....I wish I could just switch off my brain for a while and let time pass by....... BF

Hi everyone, Costasmum ~ Wow thats a first, most breeds (all breeds) are always interstate, and you actually found a breeder in SA sorry but SA don't normally have that many breeders and here I find they have the Vizsla Wow those getting pups on the 19th, I'll be thinking of you, its my 48th Birthday we were going out for a double celebration as its OH's Birthday on the 15th, he'll be 65, but money is tight and bills come first so we had to cancel. But my daughter has decided to do dinner for us so we will go there. JakeyJangles ~ I have 4 grandchildren and the one on the way I love being a grandmother. I can do what I want, spoil them rotten, and the best part give them back, and have nanny naps when I want.....I hope our new pup likes naps too As for seeing the vet, I never used to go unless they are sick or need their vaccinations. But they do recommend you see the vet within a week of getting your pup. Mostly I think to check the pup is healthy and is exactly what you just forked out money for. Plus it gives your pup a chance to meet the vet without having any bad experiences (like vaccinations, some dogs scream the house down). I think I will be taking my pup for a check up, but thats more for my peace of mind than anything else. Plus I want to get pet insurance for the dog, and if the vet gives it a clean bill of health you stand a better chance later if the pup does come down with something or has a medical or hereditary problem, as the insurer might fight the cover. But the first history of the pup is in good health they can't fight it. Just a heads up on that. BF

Jakeyjangles ~ At least I can easily know how old Jangles is.... my oldest daughter is 9 weeks pregnant until she has the baby then I'll be lost BF

Casowner ~ I totally agree with you. I put the only legislation I could find about dogs attacking up, so Diablo is definitely wrong or misinformed they do say dogs can attack if protecting its property, but how is a child classed as a threat to property??? I feel for the dog, and it makes me mad that the dog was placed in this situation, plus I'm mad the mother wasn't watching what her child is doing. The only ones not to blame are the dog and the child. And people who make claims and don't back them up make me mad too BF

Poor child, if the dog was part of the furniture in the salon, why wasn't he even registered? Another irresponsible owner and now a dog with a Dangerous Dog Order put on it. The staff member should have been made responsible too if they had said toher mother ''you don't have to worry about the dog with kids, he's used to people''. Of course the parents should have been more responsible aslo. Diablo you were asked 4 times about the legislation that you mentioned which would have made the owner not responsible due to "provaction". I still haven't seen it. Quote Diablo Under SA legislation, it would be clear cut case of provocation. It makes no difference if the child fell onto the dog or intentionally pulled it's tail, the dog was mistreated and reacted. The dog has the right to sit in peace without being hurt or startled by misadventure. Because the victim was a defenceless child, doesn't make the dog anymore at fault in the circumstances. I couldn't find any legislation to back up what Diablo said, but I did find this: Dog and Cat Management Act 1995—1.2.2010 Part 5—Management of dogs Division 1—Offences relating to duties of owners and others responsible for control of dog 44—Dogs not to be allowed to attack etc (1) A person who sets on or urges a dog to attack, harass or chase a person or an animal or bird owned by or in the charge of another person is guilty of an offence (whether or not actual injury is caused). Maximum penalty: $10 000 or imprisonment for 2 years. (2) A person who owns or is responsible for the control of a dog is guilty of an offence if the dog attacks, harasses or chases or otherwise endangers the health of a person or an animal or bird owned by or in the charge of another person (whether or not actual injury is caused). Maximum penalty: $2 500. Expiation fee: $210. (3) A person who is guilty of an offence against this section is guilty of an aggravated offence if the offence relates to a dog that is a dangerous dog or a dog of a prescribed breed and, on conviction, the person is liable to a monetary penalty not exceeding double the monetary penalty, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding double the term, that would otherwise apply under this section for that offence. (4) It is a defence to a charge of an offence against this section if it is proved that the dog was at the time of the offence being genuinely used in the reasonable defence of a person or property, or for droving or removing an animal found trespassing. Poppyx ~ I can understand, I guess your wondering what have you got yourselves into....I think most of us have been in that situation before. You'll make it work, and you little 'monster' will fit in beautifully. Maybe she might make you both take time for her and so giving you both a much needed break from the hassles of a new business :D Do you have to arrange the flight yourself? Last interstate pup I bought the breeder arranged all the transport etc, she just told us when she was leaving NSW, so we could meet her at the airport. We didn't have to do a thing. Good Luck. BF
-
Poppyx ~ What was the reason you can't pick up until next week? I understand after reading all the horror stories on here about shoddy breeders etc, that any delay will ring alarm bells, but if you think the reason for the delay is a good one, then just wait it out. I'm sure everything is going to be ok :D BF

Jangles is gorgeous ~ If they weren't such a largish (larger than I can handle ) I'd get a Labrador in a heart beat. Did you see on the news how they are training them for Autistic kids, they show the dog a word on a card and the dog does what the word says, like sit, roll, speak, back....its amazing how smart a Labrador is. Red Ruby ~ I couldn't see any pictures of Ruby's collar, not sure if my laptop was playing up or what, but there was nothing there, not even a broken link. ;) JaxD ~ Badger is very clever, I used to own a mini foxy, and she was just a wonderfully affectionate dog. Well done on the training, some dogs just get it, others need more patience....same as kids really :D Niques ~ James is just keeping you on your toes....so in other words don't lose your concentration of him for a sec.... or he'll make you pay for it. MAD ~ How are things over your way? Ok better go and finish this weeks study. BF

Question for your all, just curiosity on my part What made you pick the breed your after? I wanted to stick with the Bulldog breeds but I was undecided between a British Bulldog, French Bulldog or Boston Terrier.....I like the squished faces, only a mother would love The Boston we thought might be a little too delicate for 4 active grandkids, so we ruled that breed out. The British I would have loved but with so many health problems, it kinda of put me off, also the larger size of them might have been a problem. So the Frenchie, being the healthier version of all three breeds was it. I wanted a smallish breed, with no grooming so to speak, I'm not into long haired dogs (the grooming side of it I mean), and I wanted a breed that would alternate between a walk now and again to a couch potato with no hangups either way. The Frenchie fit the bill to a tee. BF

Jodi ~ I have pm'd you Nicola ~ The 'waiting list', yep agree the name should change, when you know the female has puppies, contact the breeder and ask if you might be getting a puppy this litter? They usually do the pups in order of who's first, who wants a male or female, etc. Some people with specific wants usually get passed over if what they want is not there, like a black female, etc. So the next name on the list is called. They don't tell you how many is on the list, just where you are in relation to it, eg: near the top. You will just have to keep in contact. Spreading your bets interstate is a better and faster way of getting a puppy. Ask on the Breed Specific Threads for recommendations or ask the JS Club. Good Luck. PoppyX ~ Frenchies are hard to find, so I will probably end up getting a pup from interstate too. Good Luck with your pup. Not long now. BF

Jodie ~ Looks identical to my crate Mines set up too MAD ~ I know what you mean. I don't have a breeder or my name on a list yet I just don't want to commit myself when I am still saving up the money. I do keep thinking that $2,500 to $4,000 is a hell of a lot of money for one pup....which we haven't had much luck in health wise...our last pup, from a breeder of Aussie Bulldogs, was PTS because of her having cancer at 11 months. We spent $1,000's on vet bills trying to find out what was wrong with her (bouts of illness and being fine), found she had cancer but they didn't know where it was. As we live in country SA, paying more $$$$ for more testing and having to board her we thought wasn't fair, and she was so sick most of the time and so miserable, so we let her go. She was my 2nd Aussie Bulldog to get cancer (the other one was 8 when she was PTS). I am just so worried it might happen again.....well not worried terrified would be a better word plus we want a puppy so badly, that I keep thinking maybe getting another, easier to get, cheaper breed might be better......I just don't know. I just don't want to make a decision and regret it later, if you know what I mean? Ghee getting a puppy is so hard sometimes..... BF

Thanks everyone, at everyone talking about poo consistency and cleaning up after their little ones.....sounds just like a Parenting Forum I can tell you I don't miss that part of having a puppy I'm not sure how I will go with my pup, I can be such a heavy sleeper.....you have to be when you have a cat that claws at the cat door most of the night.....I wish I could train her to behave. She sleeps in the laundry, last pup we had we put them both in the laundry at night, the cat woke the dog up every morning at 5-6am.....I think she does it just to nark us.... This time I am going to put the pup in the lounge and the cat in the laundry at night....but you can still hear the cat all over the house, but we have all learned to sleep through it Flynn is so cute, I love the roan colour. Lynn

Wow such great puppy pics, I love to see them, but they make me want my pup so much more I have been keeping busy: I was going to put a door flap on but thought the pup might like to see whats going on, so I left it off. I am going to make some dog coats now. I have some cut out they just need sewing, my favourite is the cow print one I love cows. I can't wait for my puppy..... BF
-
Yes the Bulldog and agility was a bit of a ...I was thinking of my shepherd when I wrote it. Jax ~ Glad to see Badger is getting it. Time and patience is the key.....depends on how much you can muster though at any one time. I found I was more patient with my pup than I was with my kids TT age does that to us all I think Love the pics of Ruby and Winston, still waiting on the Lola fixes though Well I better get back to my sewing....I'm making a cover for the crate, pretty yellow one side and white with pink moons and clouds, with yellow teddies laying in the clouds the other. It is reversible, I've made the pattern just need to cut out the material now. BF

Didles ~ I just wanted to say I am glad you are keeping Winston (gorgeous name). I had a Long Haired German Shepherd pup that had Hip Displasyia(?) he was 8 months old when I had to surrender him as we moved from the UK to Australia. My parents wouldn't let me bring him over. He was a great dog and was never in any pain. I was told the only problems he would have would turn up as he got older, and that only mentioned Arthritis, which could be eased with meds. I just wanted you to know its not a life of pain and suffering like it sounds. You can't ever do the agility trials or encourage jumping sports, but other than that he would live a great life. My dog Shane became a workmans constant companion, so he was well loved like Winston will be. Good Luck BF
