aaahh you are true, but this and next can get very confused depending on the context to me the next weekend is the one coming...ie the 5th ;)
-
Ok just a question, my vet is about a 20 min walk down the road from us, but we are going so my boy can have his 3 yearly shot, this might be a strange question but is it ok to walk him there then walk him the 20 mins home after the needle? or is exercise bad after a shot? weird question i know, but i would hate to walk there and then have them tell me to rest him for the next half hr or so and not be able to walk home ;)

you dont have to do obedience to do agility, a good recall would be handy, practise this at home and at the park and slowly increase distractions, i have a 5m leash you can borrow (i notice your in bris, me too) make recalls fun, throw treats about 1 m from you then start running, when the dog catches you throw more treats on the ground and start running again, only say "come" when they are coming. i do agility at bad, and not everyones dogs behave all the time, we do get runaways, its prob more embarrassing for the owners than anyone else the beginners can work on leash so you can do the i think its 6 or 8 week beginner course at bad on leash while you practise your recalls at home ;)

How Do You Know If You're Ready For A Second Dog?
dandybrush replied to Michelleva's topic in General Dog Discussion
thanx dancinbcs, that does all make sense, re the age and health issues and training, my boy is at a good age, is very well trained, and i continue to train him and has no issues. my question now for anyone with kids, is one dog better? or does it not matter how many you have, you still have time to give them training and attention? (if i could know without a doubt that i would still be able to take my boy and any other pups to training/agility/whatever/play dates, then i would without a doubt have a second puppy) -
How Do You Know If You're Ready For A Second Dog?
dandybrush replied to Michelleva's topic in General Dog Discussion
haha michelle i have the same question...how do you know when you are ready to have a second dog? im waiting to hear some of the answers pple give you but some questions i would like to add if that ok with you, is i would like to know: if you are thinking of having kids if 2 dogs is too much? my only concerns that stop me buying another pup is the fact i want kids soon and may not have the time/effort to put into raising another dog and putting in the training it requires. (otherwise i'd have a second dog by now) sorry i dont want to hijack your thread, ill delete my post if you want me to sounds to me IMO michelle that you might be ready for the jump to 2 dogs, what are your concerns? if its just that the dog is deaf i say go for it get the pup, but if you have other issues then maybe you should discuss them sorry -
what time and where?
-
thanx better add that to my list too

Too Much Rough Play For A Puppy?
dandybrush replied to all creatures's topic in General Dog Discussion
i was once told by my behaviourist that the thing you worry about the most is the thing that is most likely to happen/go wrong for eg, she was worried that her dog wouldnt pee on the grass when its raining...and guess what? he doesnt. I think you are being very smart in trying to make sure it runs smoothly and that everyone can be happy. but try not to worry about it tooo much, let it run its course naturally. You set the rules and enforce them, if one dog is getting too excited, separate them. If one dog does something to hurt the other cue in a time out word (i use "too bad" ) and put them in a time out in the bathroom or a crate and ignore them for a bit. teach them to live apart from each other happily but also teach them to live together and tolerate each other weather or not they like each other :D learn as much as you can, but try not to make it you main stress, give them loooootttss of treats for being calm around each other, just leave a bowl of treats on you kitchen bench or something, so you can access them quickly when you are seeing behaviours you want to see, they will soon learn which behaviours get them rewarded keep up the good work -
my boy is the same rusty bucket, if he thinks he is gonna get something he runs off to lie in his crate, then he keeps jumping out and bak in as if i didnt see him the first time
