i use advantix monthly and in tick season add a tick collar to the mix no ticks so far... and i check each dog in their daily pats :D bc crazy i wouldnt go the proban route, i have heard it can cause kidney failure...not sure if its true or not, but i'd rather not go that way, i think what you are doing is the best method

New Puppy Owner, Confused About Worming
dandybrush replied to quangle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
quangle i totally understand why you are confused, im still confused with mine i have my dogs on the heartworm shot, then every 3 months they get the drontal all wormer, and montly they get flea and tick spot on (advantix), im sure there are cheaper ways to do it...but i get sooo confused also from what i have been told you cannt overworm them, so i think if you had a couple of worms in 2 of your different covers they would be fine, heartworm is the only thing i think you can only cover once, so make sure u are only giving them 1 dose of the heartworm someone else can correct me if im wrong... -
Choosing A Dog For Dog Sports?
dandybrush replied to skip's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
same here jules I don't mean any offense here, but I think that opinion is easier to have when your current dog/s like, and are good at, dog sports ;) Our first dog is a rescue mutt and he suited our circumstances at the time. He's laidback and easygoing and a joy to be around. But training? Nope, not interested. I couldn't get him to jump over one small jump let alone do an agility course. I took him through some obedience levels, and I got hooked, but he didn't. Where to from here? We would have loved to get a greyhound next, but that probably would have left me in the same position. So our next dog is an Australian Shepherd who is obviously much more suited to dog sports. She loves it, I love it, OH and I love her to bits, our other dog loves her, so I don't see why it's a problem that I chose her for her potential If she ever gets injured or cannot compete, fine, she will just be a much loved pet. no offense taken the only reason im interested in dog sports is cause raz is if he wasnt/didnt want/need mental work then i prob wouldnt bother, i buy dogs to be pets only really, now i get to do sports to which is a bonus cause raz does love it. that said if i was say a great horse rider wanting to compete in dressage, i would not buy a horse that was trained only to jump...if that makes any sense so i do understand why you would want to buy a dog for you hobby or interest -

i have to say i am comfortable with it, i think the role model dog is teaching the young ones good manners. that said my older boy raz at nearly 3 was getting what i thought of as picked on by a different alpha dog, though those of you that know raz he is a high energy dog and its possible that this other dog was just trying to get him to calm down. if i was this person i would maybe go a couple of other times, as if you are not comfortable you can grab your dog and remove it and put it in a settle yourself before the alpha dog steps in. if the problem persists i prob wouldnt go back, but i do know the school you are talking about and i fully trust their judgement and i have met this dog and he is really just trying to teach the pups manners sometimes dogs see subtle signs we dont know about i find him a very handy tool but its really up to the owners comfort and what they deem appropriate for their dogs

I have used human zinc on raz's nose (the vet said should be ok) and havent had any issues and have used infant zinc (thats too thin and runny) and the filtabac, the best i found was the human white zinc, seemed the thickest (still wont stay on long with raz's tongue). i might check out you doggles one thanx bc crazy

i have a 3 yr old and a 6 month old, and its alot of work for me even now!! i dont know if i would do it again, maybe wait for a bigger age gap... i imagine 1 deaf puppy to be hard work so good luck sounds like you are doing a good job, if you think you can handle that work times 2 then go for it,
-
ruby star that filtabac i have used you can find them in most pet stores in my area so im sure you will find it for the nose though, i find my boy licks it straight off, its so thin not very thick, im looking for something thicker for his nose now

Not A Breed For First Timers
dandybrush replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
i have to say im in the same boat with my new pup, my older boy is my best friend, i do everything i can with him i do adore my new puppy and she is so much easier and super cute but i havent bonded to her the same...yet as for my first dog being a koolie well i wouldnt recommend them as a dog for a first time dog owner, they require alot of mental stimulation and exercise, that said if i had got willow first i would almost say that a koolie could be good for a fist timer she is soo easy, though prob not for someone who is clueless -
hmm im confused but i dont understand the difference between the look at that and the look at me game arent you working for the same end result neway?
-
ok yep, i have 2 dogs, let me know who you would prefer me to bring, if i could bring my pup it will be good distracion/leave it training also for her, but she would prob pester asti if let off leash together. my older boy is more likely to ignore asti (he'll be to busy peeing on everything or playing with his ball )
-
yep k thanx weasels

so sorry to hear that, thinking of you and your family
