Interesting Things That Happen In Dog Parks
W Sibs replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can see, that it will be something Kivi would do.. to look out for Erik -
thanks... I usually don't bring treats with me on walks (sometimes to the dog parks but if i remember), but I think I should from now on with Em. I never paid attention to fear period either... Charlie never went through it. I still not sure what he is scared of because he either ignores stuff or he is oblivious to it. But, Emmy is different and reacts a lot more than Charlie... so it makes me wonder.
-
Has Emmy hit her fear stage? (i didn't think this was possible because she is usually VERY fearless) This morning, I took her for a walk (alone), and we saw Kodi (the neighbours huge malamute and the most sweetest and most placid dog I've met)... and Emmy suddenly got scared and got into a real panic state. We have met Kodi before, Charlie and Kodi are good friends. Kodi is HUGE, so I wonder if it's the size that freaked her out (because when i first met this girl, i nearly had a heart attack because she is so big and decided to come for a jog with me!). Or could it be that Kodi was off leash and Emmy was on the leash? Anyway, I end up taking Emmy away, made her focus on me, and when she completely calm, we walked across the road to ignore Kodi, and walked home. She was fine after that. Which now I'm second guessing myself that I shouldn't of done that? Is that the right way to handle it? hmmm... Any suggestions how I can help her through this? Should next time I see Kodi, I bring Charlie along, so she can how Charlie meets Kodi, so she can realise that Kodi is no threat? Yes, I know she still a puppy but I've never seen her in that much of a panic state before!! My little girl usually takes things face on and don't back down!

Charlie with red jumper sorry bad photo.. it was taken from my mobile phone. i had to bribe him with a bit of my Gummy Bear for this shot.. I'm shocked he stood still for it!

Hi! Welcome! It's kinda funny because I'm not all that a big fan of small breed dogs, but now I own 2 of them. They are simply my world and biggest joy!! Charlie is a Cavalier x Shih Tzu: When I was looking for a puppy, i was looking for a CKCS or Shih Tzu (I decided not to get a spitz breeds after breaking up with the boyfriend and leaving my 2 huskies behind)... and my friend told me she knew a person who just has a Cav x Shih Tzu through a surprised and accident birth. At first sight, we just belong together. He followed me home and is still following me around till this day. He is the best dog ever. Never a naughty puppy, has the most gentle, placid and sweetest temperament, loves people, dogs and amazing with kids. But, he is full of attitude also that keeps us amused. Very smart and picks up everything quickly, and he will work for kisses and cuddles because the main goal in his life to make me happy. When it was time to look for a second dog.. we had to get another small breed dog. I researched other breeds, but I couldn't turn my head on Japanese Spitz. I love that they are feisty, busy, energetic and is a big dog in a small body, the more I researched on them, talked to other owners and breeders, I knew we had to get one. Emmy came into our life, and is simply a joy. She is exteremly smart - she picks up tricks and training at one go, but the biggest challenge for me is to keep her interested in training because she has no attention span (first dog ever, that i have to remind to finish her dinner because she gets distracted so easily). Emmy is very independent, fearless, stubborn and willful (she will take on anything heads on... first time she saw a mirror instead of being weary about it... she run straight into the mirror and nearly knocks herself out.. she was about 9 weeks old!), but also very very affectionate. She is very funny and makes us laugh everyday with her curiousity, her spunkiest and her happy energy. She always runs around with this goofy grin on her face.

No, he doesn't regularly get clipped. Only thing that I try to do is keep his chest, belly, tail, butt legs and paws trimmed.. but I do a bad job at it and I thought I would treat him to the groomers (i was actually thinking about giving Ruthless a call and try to get a photo session with her! but, now, that's gotta wait). But his head, ears and top of his body i leave that alone. He isn't long hair like most fluffy does are. I will try to get photos with him in his new gear... but he HATES the camera. He sees me holding it, he will walk away or give me evils and turn his head away (and often ignore me). Not even his favorite treats will get him to look into the camera.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Popped in to see if there is any updates... still thinking about you, Jed!! Charlie and Emmy sends plenty of licks and cuddles too. -
oh dear.. this can get addictive!

Yeah.. I've looked. I left Charlie's measurement at home, but I'm going to get him one (or two) ;) But, i also bought him the cutest jumper, a new rain coat, and some some hoodie shirts ;)
-
;) I can't fault it either So, I'm getting use of my little boy's look now. Last night, I got an old t-shirt and quickly sew something up for him to keep him warm during the night... very bad job, but it did the job (as it didn't fall apart and didn't stop any blood circulations). He is wearing it all day today too ;) Shopping is fun!! But, wow.. some prices on these clothes!!

Sounds like you had an accident prone there, puppy sniffer! -
Because it would be fun thing to do for an average dog owner to do with their dog... also it's a great way to bond with the dog. It's a different way to exercising the dog and it will keep their mind alert. Some people simply have no interesting in breeding, whatsoever. I know I'm not.

OMG.. that picture is gorgeous!!!! Charlie has that facial expression when Emmy first started cuddling up against him..

The boyfriend confessed (after months of keeping this a secret).. that he locked Charlie in the car once in the garage. He had to carry a lot of things up to his place, and then he got distracted when his mum called him. When he got off the phone, he saw all Charlie's thing and didn't know where he put Charlie. He was in panic mode, ran downstairs into the garage and saw Charlie sitting in his booster chair giving him the most saddest look... it broke his heart. He went out and bought Charlie an ice cream and took him to the dog park and everything... But, it makes sense now... whenever I get out of the car, Charlie automatically starts whinging and he never use to do that. -
Delayed desexing isn't recommended for competitiveness CW, but to give the dog the best possible chance of obtaining full structural maturity - this assists with maintaining soundness. Some dog sports folk have their dogs growth plates x-rayed to ensure they have closed before desexing or serious training over obstacles. Growth plates can remain open for far longer than some folk think. It's less of an issue in the smaller breeds though. Interesting... But, I think I'm still going to give Emmy a go at doing flyball and agility... just to see if she likes it, despite how old she gets desexed. I'm still new with it all this dog sport thingy, and it looks like something fun Emmy and I could do together
-
Interesting read on desexing lately... I've never ever own an entire dog/bitch before ever, and I won't be starting any day soon. For me... I'm getting Emmy desexed before she's 6 months. I have an agreement with the breeder. Also, because her mum came into heat early too. I don't want to deal with a female dog in heat. It also ease my mind that she won't ever have any accident either. She is solely going to be pet... no showing, no breeding. But, I will put her into dog sports but I don't care if she wins or anything, as long as we are having fun together.

Yeah, i do leave the night light on for Emmy, the bathroom is the darkest room in the house and she love that room... OMG... Emmy does that with the crate!!!! She will sit there and look all pathetic... at first, I thought she wanted us to close it, and I will and she will throw a tanty... WTF? We just ignore her now. If I close the crate on Charlie and not lock it... he will sit in there till I open it again for him. He doesn't get that he can push it open (and if he does, he is damn lazy to open it)... -

oh dear.. locking dogs out and forgetting about them is a common theme here i step on Charlie and Emmy a lot too... they really really make me feel guilty about it on how they carry on. -
I think dogs will change in personalities a little after a major thing happen to them. It's all depends on how you deal with it. Maybe Benson's isn't as good as it was before, so he is slowly adjusting to it.. and needs you around to help build up his confidence. He is learning how to use his other senses more... like with the touch and smell, so it would take him longer to get anywhere. Charlie got ill.. his personality has changed... nothing obvious but something I'm starting to see a lot more of. Like, if he doesn't like anything, instead of ignoring it, he will be more vocal about it and let it known that he isn't happy about certain things. He is more demanding and a lot more whinger when he wants something, I'm stopping this behaviour though because it's getting annoying.

You will often end up with what you got the degree in which its shaved off can vary . May i ask who dropped him off & told the groomer what was wanted?? We get husbands who drop off & say short all over, having spoken to the wife on the phone we often end up phoning to confirm the request when it was different to what was aksed to be done. Wording to a groomer is very different to Joe Blow BUT groomers should ask & advice on the coat/ Looking at the dog i would hav touch the coat but trimmed the feet & maybe bum if an issue otherwise the coat is so fine & not long it wouldnt have been worth clipping.A good hand stripping of the dead coat on all areas would have worked a treat even for the ears & then trimming the edges We both dropped him off... we talked to one groomer and she was writing everything down, but the boyfriend picked up Charlie, and told me that another groomer did Charlie instead. So, I think there was some kind of miscommunication between them. My boyfriend is very particular on things like this, he was telling her exactly what he wanted done. I just wanted the paw and legs hair trimmed and his nails cut. We went in there early to introduce Charlie to the groomer and showed them exactly how to lift Charlie up and how to handle him. They showed us what kind of tools they will be using with Charlie. So I'm sure they are very good, but there was a mix up between the groomers. I like this idea...I think Charlie would look pretty sexy is some special doggy Pjs! online searching and shopping for his now.. just got to go and measure him for size! well, i did say i wanted a short hair dog one day... Try here ohhh thanks!!! I'm letting no groomer go to my little girl... only to get her paws trimmed though, but I've been doing that myself.

Oh yeah.. first thing first... we are going to go out and buy some coats, jumpers and shirts for Charlie!! The boyfriend picked him up... he is the kind of guy who has the attitude.. it has happened, just let it go. I came home and saw it and took me about an hour to look pass what happened, and I'm ok. I will be making a complaint the vets recommended it. due with charlie's back, we were really weary on people handling him and stuff. they handle charlie perfectly but the cut wasn't so perfect :D

stormie: not denying that he is still not cute... because he really is, especially his floppy ears... but still, it's freezing now! clyde: i asked them for a trim on the his chest, belly, legs and butt area... then they shaved him! they didn't touch the face, only cutting around the ears (boyfriend's request because he didn't Charlie's having long hair on his ear :D )
