When Doberman gets older they will always go blind and that's why they will always attack people.

He is going to be fine It's usually the humans who are more stressed about it.. Charlie came home and ate a huge meal, did his business, played a little with his toys and slept for a few hours. Woke up and things were back to normal again. He didn't lick his stitches or anything.

What Would You Do If Your Dog Was Sick
W Sibs replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
You would need to compare itemised invoices to see the real difference. I would actually be more worried about being charged only $350 for surgery and two days hospitalisation than I would about paying $1700. You won't get much oxygen, propofol, plasma or many other types of expensive treatment for $350. Hospitalisation is best when the dog is being constantly monitored and tested and given treatment and pain relief, not when it is just put in a cage and all the staff go home at night. It costs money to provide all that. But sadly, not all vets are set up with the latest vet hospital facilities. Me too, actually. -
How Many Tricks Can You Teach At One Time?
W Sibs replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It's all depend on the energy and focus Emmy is in. Emmy is a very fast learner... she only needs to be taught once and she gets it straight away. Training with Emmy is always fun and an adventure, and constantly has me in amazement on how fast she picks things up. When she is completely focus, we are just doing one trick after. -
Jimmy Is Peeing In The House, Not On His Loo!
W Sibs replied to Jimmy2009's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Back to basics... But, use the leash on him. Lead him where you want him to go and teach him to go on command. Then, of course, when he goes his business... praise him like he won a gold medals at the Olympics or something  It's all about patience and consistency. In the day time, lock him up in a small area of the house so he doesn't have full rein of the house... when you are at home, you have to keep an eye on him at all time (it's exhausting, i know)... if you can't, put him in a play pen. -
OMG!! He is sooo cute! Welcome newest member of DOL!!

What Would You Do If Your Dog Was Sick

No Pet Insurance would cover Charlie on what he has and all the test that was done on him. Miss Emmy has pet insurance. Luckily, the boyfriend and I are in a position where we can look after Charlie without pet insurance. If we didn't, we would take out loans, borrow money from family or sell our stuff... PTS is not an option if he can be saved. -
Very Young Dogs That Go To Rainbow Bridge
W Sibs replied to furballs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I know what you're going through furball  Everyday with Charlie for me is a gift. I know that Charlie isn't going to have a long life (despite me telling myself that he is)... he has really really good days, but those bad days are really really awful. We take everything one day at a time. We enjoy every minute of a good day, and we struggle every minute through the bad days. This weekend was a bad weekend. He refused to get out of his crate or bed, he squealed in pain every time he tried to move... takes him a while for him to settle down, and once he does, he is ok. It breaks my heart each time, and when the boyfriend or I want to take Emmy for a walk... he will sit and cry so hard that his body shakes because he wants to go for a walk but can't. -
Hi Lambo, I've been reading your thread, and I was going to suggest you getting an older dog too... although I really can't help you with what breed you should get

I so love seeing photos of Charch and Asha! I love the one with Asha's arms around Charch.. Best Friends Forever!! Whatever she is cross with.. she is stunning!!!

I think this as well A seriously gorgeous puppy. In fact, I think she might give CW_EW's Charlie and Emmy a run for their money. Moselle, tops marks for giving that response to people who wanted to breed her. I was once offered $5k for my teeny weeny Maltese, but didn't know anything about byb or the dreadful numbers of dogs killed every years. In the second photo, she looks as though she could have Golden Retriever and if that was the case, no wonder her poor mother had to have C-section and then desexed. The cross may become a little more obvious once she is older. What the?!?!!? Seriously... Satin is seriously cute though... I love love her blue eyes!!

What Does Your Dog Do That Makes You Laugh?
W Sibs replied to fiveplusone's topic in General Dog Discussion
it's always a good laugh when I see Emmy pulling out her huge hippo stuff toy (we bought it for her when we got her... Mr Hippo was her companion home and sleeping buddy in the bathroom in the daytime)... the thing is huge! She will pull him every metre... sit down have a break.. then continue pulling. sometimes, she will curl up next to him for a quick nap before continuing pulling him from the bathroom to the living room... and then back again. -

Charlie gets told that quite a bit too. He barks when he is snoozy too... I have to tell him to just sleep. -
People cross breed because $$ After talking to my boyfriend and his friends about dogs... I discovered they don't know much. They all believe that cross breed dogs are much more healthier because that's what people tell them. If they want a puppy, they don't know about registered breeders and if they do, they don't know how or what to ask breeders, and they definitely do not want to wait. It's easy to go to a pet store or look online for a puppy. They generally have no idea what it really takes to look after a dog... they don't even know things like Puppy School. They think puppies will get toilet training after they go out of puppy phase, they automatically know how to sit. It's ok for them to bark at other dogs and people... They all think I'm a crazy dog lady because how my time I invest in my dogs... they laugh when I tell them i take Emmy to puppy school etc. They don't care about blood lines, where the puppy is from, what their parents are like... they just want a cute puppy. And they are silly enough to fork out crap load of money for one. Anyone who's greedy for money will prey on these people.

that's terrible! I am so sorry to hear about your mum. Right now, you should be spending most of the time caring for your dad and your little girl... You did the best you can and sometime life just simply sucks!! no flaming here! Give these guys a call. NSW Samoyed Rescue

I play Search with Charlie. I hide his bikkies around the house, and say 'Search' and he is off. He will sniff and search the whole area till he finds everything... (when he is done, i say 'finish' and he stops). It's his favorite game and sometimes the only way to get him to eat his dry dog biscuits.

Do You Walk Your Dog No Matter What The Weather ?
W Sibs replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah I do. We all put on the raincoats (human and dogs) and we have our walk. But walks are shorter. Emmy loves it. Charlie doesn't mind it but towel must be ready for him as soon as we walk in the door though. -
How Many People Should Be In Charge Of 'training' A Pup?
W Sibs replied to goldee's topic in Puppy Chat
Like the others said. One person in charge.. the other reinforce it. Usually it's the human who are the hardest to train I constantly have to re-train the boyfriend and his brother all the time -
aww.. I wish I can bring Charlie to work. He would be a great office dog.

I'm in for a Spitz meet I'm bringing Charlie along too... he can pretend to be a Spitz too. But, he is better at pretending to be human then a Spitz though. -
What Does Your Dog Do That Makes You Laugh?
W Sibs replied to fiveplusone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Charlie refuses to get out of bed too. But, he fakes sleeps and snores... I can see him watching me from the bed from the mirror, but as soon as I turn around, he quickly shuts his eyes and start breathing heavily. -
What Does Your Dog Do That Makes You Laugh?
W Sibs replied to fiveplusone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Charlie pulls the most hilarious faces... you can always know what he is feeling or thinking by just looking at his facial expressions. I never knew a dog who can be so snobby... the other night, I gave him Chicken neck (he is use of turkey neck) for dinner. The horrid look at his face when he saw what was in his bowl, then the disgusted look he gave me, then stuck his nose in the air walking back into the living room and went to lay in his bed, and the look on his face said 'as if i'm eating that!'.. I had to walk outside to laugh. He also often gives his little sister the 'WTF?' look. She is a strange one. Emmy... there isn't another specific thing that I can remember that can make me laugh. It's just her personality, she is just so busy, happy and loves life. So, the little thing can amuse her.. which amuses me. She can entertain herself with a little paper she shred for a long while.. she will bark at it, pounce on it, roll on it, run away from it... good fun for her. Good fun for me to watch her having so much fun (this is one of the times Charlie will give her a 'WTF' look). -
