  1. Nope.. never to late to a train a pup/dog anything.
  2. Do you think that would work for my boy who ends up with Brown areas where he rests his head ie. when he curld up his head rests on his legs and gis legs get stained. are you going to give it a try?

    Why?

I thought Dogs can't eat cat food because of cat food having too much salt it in or something... The only cat I interact with (if you call it that) is my dad's black cat, Ninja. He is on a raw food diet, he turns his head up if he sees bikkies in his bowl instead of fish, chicken or something raw.
  4. Charlie is very calm and very chilled. His way of coping with change is that he gets clingy, he needs me around to show him that everything is OK. But, he settles down very fast once I set out the rules (or routine) again. Nothing really phases this guy. Emmy sounds a little like Erik. She easily unsettled and not a big fan of change. I just redid my study room, and Emmy let me know how she didn't like it. She spend about 1/2 hour in there exploring and trying to made sense of the whole situation. She did some redecorating in the study room too, like move her bed back to her the usual corner of the room.. and got upset when she was in her bed, she couldn't see me properly.
  5. Someone told me that I would be a better trainer if I can make Bubby ENJOY training and improve his motivation! I guess I am curious, these mellow dogs, are they wired differently and should be given a chance to be trained by employing various different methods or just let them chill somewhere because that’s who they are and not every dog likes to run out and do 20 laps of fetching. Charlie is very mellow and laid back... but he will only do training with me. He is a total mama's boy, and will do everything I ask of him. BUT, this is the dog that use to sleep in obedience classes, play dumb when instructor tries to use him as a demo dog, and while all the other dogs are playing with each other... he is off saying hello to every kid he sees and begging for cuddles. I've just learned that he is one of those dogs that just like to chill... as long as he knows the basic and listens to me, then if he wants to sleep in class or whatever, that's fine with me. We do challenge his little brain, because that's just good for his health.
  6. What molasseslass said. But, I understand how you feel, because that's what it was like in my house when I first got Emmy. I kind of got lazy with his training, because I was too focus on Emmy. I kept saying it's because is still a puppy and needs a lot of attention, like I use to give Charlie a lot of attention when he was a puppy. But, I now have the boyfriend to play games with Charlie inside like search while I take Emmy outside to do some training. I bought this game for Charlie too. But, I have to admit that Emmy is more fun to train then Charlie, because she challenges me on finding new ways to train her. Whereas Charlie is very easy to train and it gets boring fast (especially because there is a limited on things he is allow to do)... so right now, it's all about using his nose and brain.
  7. I've noticed it's fading with Emmy... It just takes time? I've heard about Angel Eyes too!! I was going to get it but I don't want to try that until Emmy is older. Because, the breeder and vets said that her tear stains will go away after she is teething.
  8. i replied in first 3 questions in your welcome post. Don't fuss over him and give him space while he explore his new surroundings. Just keep an eye on him without smothering him. He will probably be nervous and scared, so just be calm, relaxed and happy, so he picks up on your energy and realise that it's going to be ok. It can take them a few days for them to feel comfortable.
  9. She has admitted that she rarely had to work with spitz breeds... and if so, she worked with them when they are older and more settled.
  10. My little girl is a feisty little thing. She growls when she plays and put her all in wrestling with other dogs. At puppy school, she was known as the bossy one and the pup who doesn't back down. There was a lady who did voice her concerned about her puppy and Emmy playing together... Emmy scared her puppy with her play growls (Emmy scared 2 little dogs in puppy school with her attitude). Emmy was only allowed to play with the bigger pups and a little staffy puppy who plays rough like Emmy. These 2 could wrestle with each other from the start of class to the end of class. If you don't want your puppy playing like this... you should definitely talk to the instructor about it, so the instructor know not to let them play together again. I have yet to hear an aggressive growl from Emmy and she has a lot of different growls... I think you will definitely know the difference between playing rough and an aggression (leading to a fight)... dogs body languages changes and things get tense.
  11. Charlie generally likes other dogs. He doesn't discriminate He especially like puppies. When he was a pup and before he got sick... he use to love to hang out with the GSD and pitbull at the park. His best mate is a Beagle. We don't know another japanese spitz owners that live around us and we don't bump into many of them.. so I can't say. Emmy plays with other breeds of dogs too.
  12. post it! I try to do it tonight ..
  13. I actually have a pic of my brother's beagle and his adventure when he was left inside their house alone...
  14. What are they like inside together when you are home? I'm sure they will be fine... can't say about your furniture though..
  15. Charlie is my heart dog. Growing up with dogs and I have had some special bonds with a few of them but nothing that compares to the bond Charlie and I have. We bonded from the moment we met. He has taught me so much. Doesn't mean I don't love Emmy any less because I'm totally and completely in love with my little girl. Emmy brings a whole new energy into my life, she is the dog that I love to train, she is sooo much fun to play around with and she is sooo happy and loves life. She can always put a smile on my face and everything she does is so damn cute.
  16. A latest photo of Charlie... after a day at the park. wearing one his new singlet tops
  17. Thanks everyone... just wanted to share this happy news with everyone!! Emmy definitely does wonders for Charlie and help him get better. She makes him more active and bring out the inner puppiness in Charlie (he never was a normal puppy!).. although, sometimes it's not so great for the humans It's amazing to watch how gentle is she with him... it's as though she knows how much he can handle, so she holds back a little. But, with any other dog.. she is truly a feral child and somewhat bossy. When he is having a sore day, she will just lay beside him on his bed and they play bitey face together. As for, the boyfriend and I. We don't think looking after Charlie and doing what we have to do is a huge thing... I think it's because we've all adjusted to it now. Charlie has given us heaps more then we could ever give him and, honestly, it's not that hard looking after him. Like I said, he has never ever been difficult or a hard dog to look after... even when he wasn't sick.
  18. Mine has way too many toys to rotate them now... they have fun discovering old toy they use to like and forgotten about.
  19. Charlie went for his usual specialist visit yesterday... it was AWESOME!! So, nothing has change in his condition, the specialists are all still baffled, dumbfounded and just speechless on his condition and how he is moving around, he is not in pain or anything. He is still very happy, active, alert and mellow little fella. So, he basically got the all clear. The boyfriend and I just continue to do the same with him. He has to stay on Puppy Dry food because it does have more calcium in it. The only medicine he is taking is metacam now, something he will probably be taking for the rest of his life, but we are cool with that They explain that his sore/bad days is because he is damaging soft tissues when he is doing more then what his body is capable of. So, the boyfriend and I have to keep an eye on his activities more. They were saying that they believed that he probably won't live till his 2nd birthday (they were shocked that he made it to his first!) but now they are changing their tune saying that how is doing, how happy he is... he could live a long life!!! Also, he is doing so well, instead of monthly - 6 weekly specialist visit.. they are changing it to every 2-3 months check up!!! a recent photo of the Chuckster!
