The First Of Many Questions For You Re Rescue, Breeding, owning Dogs
W Sibs replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good explore this What do you think should happen when a bitch cant be bred any more? Hmm... I would love to say, get them desexed and rehome to people who will love them and spoil them for the rest of their life. It's going to take very special people who are willing to take them in to look after them and be patient with them to make them better. But, realistically and sadly, depending on the age and living in a cage all her life.. she is going to have serious behaviour and health issues, sometimes the best for her is to PTS and let her go over to rainbow bridge In my fantasy world... there was will a no kill rescue old dog retirement home where they can take in these dogs, and let them live the rest of their life in open space, good food and a lot of TLC. But, we don't live in that kind of world. YET. -

Puppy farmers doesn't see dogs as animal or living things. They see them as a product that they can use to make $$. Once the dogs are done with producing puppies.. they are toss out like old goods. -
I call it making a nest for themselves... my 2 does it before the go to sleep.

love the photos ;)

awww... he has the zoomies!!! it's nothing serious.. LOL a lot of puppies do that... and a lot of adult does it too. it's crazy to watch. Emmy does it and she is crazy fast. I sometimes join her with the running around, and sometimes she has a toy that she does the zoomies around, but most of the time, she is just running in circles in the yard!! if he is slipping and sliding.. maybe you should take him outside so he can run around. i know quite a few people who has some injuries when their dogs does the zoomies... my mum walked out to the backyard a few years back when the dogs were doing the zoomies, they knocked her over and she sprained her ankle...

I give my dogs sentinel spectrum monthly... they cover everything but ticks. There are a lot ways of giving a pup tablets. My friend crashes up tablets and mix it in honey (or peanut butter) and let Link lick it off..

I have accepted that dog hair is part of my fashion now... (although i do envy people who wear black with no fur on it). I agree with the Dryer! Duct tape is really good too.

ditto. I think they are trying to tell you something. I have them mostly on RAW.. so you think stopping kibble would be best? I have about 3/4 left!? From what I've been told (vets and specialists)... feeding them dry food, especially for still growing dogs (puppies) is important. It has all the proteins, calcium and all that jazz in them, that some raw food doesn't provide enough of in raw. Emmy gets dry food for at least one of her meals, and Charlie gets at best, one handful, a day... if i'm lucky. My past dogs were always strictly on raw food, rarely/never gave them dry food. Only started feeding dry food to the 2 i have now.

Difference Between Fear Aggression And Plain Old Aggression?
W Sibs replied to Inka3095's topic in General Dog Discussion
From what I understand, it's a rare thing to have a dog that's plain aggressive. Like Greytmate said.. there is always a reason behind aggression. -
haha.. how cute! Emmy drools.. but that's in the car and it's because she doesn't like car rides. Other from that, no I don't have droolers. I have spinners.

My boy isn't a fan of dry food... he will eat it if I made a game out of it. Then I discovered if I let the dry biscuits out for the day, he will eat it up the next day (when the smell isn't as strong). We changed so many dry biscuits till we settled with Hills. Then recently changed to Advance Puppy Plus (chicken), because that's the only dry that Emmy eats. What you did this morning by adding little bit of stuff in it is fine... I sometimes put yoghurt in Emmy's. Or, add warm water and mix it up and add in an egg for her... she loved it (but I've only done it twice for her since I got her and we were a friend's house and we didn't bring any dinner for her). My 2 are mostly on a raw food diet :D

Today I Realised How Well Behaved My Puppy Is

Nice that you're helping out your nan and I hope she gets better soon :D It's kinda be expected for a dog to go crazy if they haven't been out for a walk in weeks. It will have a lot of pent up energy in him. And, if he is untrained too, he won't know any better either. So don't be so hard on him. BTW... Emmy is about 3kg and my little girl is STRONG!! When she pulls, my arm really feels like. The boyfriend is always grateful on how well trained Charlie is and Emmy is going to be after having dinner with one of his friends. They have a small dog that is so ill mannered and is not trained, he always comes home with treats for Charlie and Emmy, and tells them they are the best dogs ever. -
Clarification During Training
W Sibs replied to Bubitty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
ohh.. he use to have long fur... but the peg gave me an idea, i'm going to use one of my hair clips! thanks! Some of the things I've taught Charlie is he did something I like, I encouraged it, and the it becomes a command. -
Clarification During Training
W Sibs replied to Bubitty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sometimes. Usually when I teach one of my dogs something new, I already planned it and pictured in my head on what I want them to do and how I'm going to do it. If it doesn't work.. I will think about a different way of doing it. Like, right now, I'm trying to get Charlie the 'shy' trick. One of the method was put sticky tape on his head so when he swipe it off, I reward him. It's not working... I can do anything to this dog and he will sit/lay there and take it. I once forgot to take the sticky tape off his head, and he walked around the house with sticky tape on his forehead for over an hour (not once complaining or tried to take it off himself) before the boyfriend took it off him. So, I'm trying to find out other ways of trying to teach him how to do it. -
I have been using the clicker when we are learning tricks and doing simple commands inside the house. it's good when there is no leash is involve
-
Love the pics!! My two gets walks in the rain... although if Charlie doesn't want to walk, we don't make him. He doesn't mind the rain but hates being wet... he will walk in the rain, but there better with a towel and the hair dryer by the door waiting for him! Emmy gets 2 walks a day. Doesn't matter the time or weather. She loves the rain and loves rolling around in wet grass. She loves the rain so much, she jumps in the shower with me nearly every night Kinda sucks for me though... I walk them separately so if it's raining, sometimes I have to walk around the block 4 times. I really do hate the rain.

I'm been saying 'well done' instead of clicker. But, I really want to master this clicker training thing I'm so unco if I'm using more then 2 tools at once. I think I just need to practice more.
-
Yeah, I have been giving her the treat every time I click.. but I'm worried that she is going to learn the wrong thing. Practising sounds like a good idea! I have the lanyard around my wrist, but I still have to hold the clicker, and I always have my thumb on the button.. Hmm... i haven't even thought about that. I'm going to have to try that.
-
Emmy is the first dog I'm trying to train with the clicker. Teaching her tricks with the clicker is good, but it's just clicker in one hand and the treat in the other hand... but I'm really struggling with trying to get her to walk loosely on the leash with the clicker. Lease in one hand, clicker in the same hand and treats in the other hand... it's ain't working I always accidently press the clicker by accident, or I forget to treat... it leaves me frustrated and Emmy confused. Do I always have to treat after clicking? Any advice please? I'm at the point where I just don't click or treat anymore. We heel. She pulls. I stop and call her back. She sits down waiting. Then we heel again. Walking down the driveway sometimes can take about 1/2 hour and last week, it took us an hour to walk to next door (good exercise for her though... she had a 2 hours naps when we got home). I'm hoping that eventually one day she will get it. I don't want to use a choker on her because she is still a puppy. Plus side is she is going to be a great running partner when she gets older though.

i can't believe how heartless some people are!! this has motivated me to start seriously looking into buying a house with a bigger land... if i had the space (and i wasn't renting right now) and my 2 little one approve... i would take him in a heartbeat.
