I don't think I'll be bringing Emmy for the prac work... I heard that you don't get to work with your own dog in practical work and it's mostly in a kennel. I don't think I can put Emmy through that... my brother lives in Melbourne too, so I'll just use his Beagle. That would be a challenge itself -
My 2 loves each other, and love being with each other. Charlie doesn't play with any other dogs.. he rather sit back and watch. Whereas Emmy will (when her gets confident enough to give it a go).. run a muck with other dogs. Doesn't matter the breed.. although she has a thing for Kelpies and BCs (that's because in obedience it's mostly Kelpies and BCs.. there is a kelpie that's in love with her). Last Saturday, she met a greyhound for the first time and had a great time running with it (they weren't playing.. just running). The greyhound is scary fast but Emmy is a little pocket rocket, and did her hardest to keep up with him.

:) I actually did this on Monday... a few people walked pass with dogs but no dogs did any number 2.. I have my neighbours (who are retired) to keep an eye out for me too.

I hope you are successful CW EW and you can damn well charge them with unlawful entry and fouling your property. I am cross beyond measure at the disgusting lack of care people have for others. Thanks! Me too! Like you I'm beyond being nice and tolerant about it... first few times, I was like 'oh whatever' but it's becoming a weekly thing now and it's annoying as hell... especially when the crap isn't easy to pick up or clean! It's starting to leave a stain on the driveway now! And, I'm renting at the moment
-
Ohh... I feel your anger, MM!!!! I have the same problem at the moment!!! I often find a huge pile of crap in my driveway too!! It's all concrete (no grass anywhere).. so it's very obvious it's there. And, the poo pile is massive... the size of my hand and whatever the guy is feeding his dog, he needs to change their diet because it doesn't look healthy!!! Every few days, I have to hose my driveway!!! it fricken annoying. I'm setting up a camera to the driveway to catch the jerk and the dog that does that!

Did you feel weird when he did it? Or were you surprised? Because it shocked the hell out of me!!

I was never a strong believer in crate training but my little guy, Charlie, loves his crate and trained me to crate train him It's very handy as in when he got sick, he will use his crate as his sickbed and he goes in there when he needs to chill or rest. Also, he knows he isn't allowed to eat his bones inside the house, but if he eats it in his crate, then it's ok. Because of him, I crate train Emmy. She doesn't mind her crate and won't stress if I lock her in there.. which is handy when she went to the vet to get desexed, she has to sit in the crate and from what I was told.. she was a total angel being all chill and relaxed in there. It comes very handy when we go on outings or camping... I can put my two in their crate with a treat or toy, and they are happy to be in there. It's a gives me piece of mind that I know they are safe in there, while I'm busy doing other things. 1. Normally, how do they give the signal on when they want to go outside? I rarely have the crate door locked... but if I do, if they want to go out to go to the toilet.. Emmy just tap on the door and wait. 2. When they give the signal, is there enough time to - unlock crate, get them out, put lead on them, run them out the door? Yeah. I don't know how your pup is, but Emmy runs to the backyard and Charlie holds it in till he gets outside.. i know he is busting if he runs to the backyard. 3. Should it be like a home to them (should it have their toys)? Emmy has her bones and her toys in her crate... if she was a human, her room will be very very messy. She likes digging her bed, so the blanket is always messing and scrunched up. Her toys are all over the crate (she has a big crate because she likes space). 4. Is it best to place the crate in the bedroom or another part of the house? Crates moves from the living room to the bedroom nearly every single night and morning... if we go camping or have outing, it comes along with us too. Personally, I will never lock my dog in a crate for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time...

Aww.. it is nice to know that my boy is trying to protect me

I took Charlie for a walk last night and as we were walking home, there was 2 men walking towards us... Charlie, who loves people and will often ask to go say hello to everyone, Charlie started growling. Not a normal warning growl/grumble he does when he isn't happy, but the growl that makes the hair on my arm stand up and the growl that people will think twice about approaching him... the closer the men walked closer to us the more menancing his growls were and he even showed teeth, his body was all tense and his ears were sticking up (well as stuck up as floppy ears can stick up)... the 2 men looked really worried/scared and went to go across the road... one guy muttered 'geez, crazy mutt?'. Charlie stopped and watched them cross the road and walk away and he was all good again, he relaxed and started to head home! I asked him 'what was that about?' but he just gave me one of his 'wasn't i a good boy?' look, that I had to bend down and give him a cuddle and praised him for doing a good job. He walked home very happy with himself (i know this because his butt was wiggling more as he walked and he had a big grin on his face ). Man, seriously, I didn't think Charlie had that in him He has never ever showned that side of him before, so I honestly believed that he didn't have that in him. He is usually the kind of dog if he gets nervous, he hides behind my legs.

The boyfriend gets the dog if anything happens to me. There is still a huge debate at home on who gets the dogs (they won't be separated) if something bad happens to the boyfriend and I. His side of the family loves Charlie and Emmy as much as my side. My side has more experience with dogs then their side, but their side of the family will have more time... either way, Charlie and Emmy will continue to have a very sweet life.
-
Charlie came into my life to just teach me about living each day to the fullest. He saved my life and my relationship with my boyfriend... before him, I was unmotivated with life and was completely burnt out. But, he came into my life and taught me to live again. Emmy came into my life to remind me how truly wonderful it is to own a dog. She has made me and Charlie stronger and so much happier. She taught me to think outside the box... she has also taught me to be more organised and be less messy

If so, what is it like?

I don't know any ethical or registered breeders who adverstise on Gumtree...
-
Yes I did... it's awesome!!! It's also a car seat for dogs and a little crate/travel bad for a dog too!! I haven't taken any photos with Charlie or Emmy in it yet. I will this weekend!!

With Emmy, she is still a puller but after watching TerraNik's video on how she walks when she does obedience, I did an experiment with Emmy... I used a short lease and clip it on my walking belt and I hold cheese in a fist and we walk. her focus is on my hand with the cheese or me. every 10-15 steps, i give her a cheese and reward her for "nice walking". We just repeat the step. It worked brilliantly. Although, my hand smells like cheese Note: Emmy LOVES cheese and will do anything for the tiniest piece.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't buy a dog from Gumtree.. sorry. What kind of papers are the people giving you? Registrations papers or just vaccination papers? Always go to a registered breeder, where you get to talk and meet the pups parents.

Hahaha! So glad Elbie's not the only sook around. He is such a little drama queen sometimes. We feel bad laughing at him but we don't think he's genuinely upset, just trying to get attention i laugh at Charlie all the time then he gives me a sadder look, that I have to sit down so he can come over for a cuddle...

I emailed her the link, she replied and said 'looks great but I wouldn't have a clue how to order online, such a bugger because the price is definitely right!' so I just ordered it for her She is pretty excited hope it doesn't take too long. that's so nice of you it will take 7-10 working days to get to her (or you).

fran! but, that's sweet of you i went to have a look on dog stuff, and end up buying other stuff instead..

When Do You Retire A Dog From Agility
W Sibs replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If it was me, I would listen to my gut and retire him. For me, I know my dog best. No matter what anyone else, I know my dog. Also, if I do continue with my dog's training, I'm always going to be worried and be scared for the dog.. and never going to be fully confident to work with my dog. You can always un-retired him later down the track when he gets better. He is still a young dog -
If he is good at agility... you should get him into it

Yep... Emmy does her "yoga" when she wakes up 'upward dog' and 'down ward dog' and then she kick one of her back leg out to stretch, then she stretches the other other back leg.. then another down ward dog position... then gives herself a good shake.. THEN is she ready to go outside to do her business... funny girl.
