We were given pain killers to give to Emmy after her op.. but we never gave any to her. She never once looked like she was in pain. In fact, she didn't even look like she had surgery. She was running down the corridor of the vet when we went to pick her up... she's weird. Charlie sooked for the whole 10 days he has the stitches..

Happy Birthday Ricky!! Wow.. 16 years old!! Still look gorgeous as ever

My feral child (Japanese Spitz) does that too... Just add in a few growls and a cute bark into it too. She once did this to a feather

I've heard stories from my friend about wanting to return their puppies.. or trade the puppy for Charlie. Umm... as much as Emmy was a feral child when I got her... no, the thought never cross my mind Although the boyfriend often ask her 'What's wrong with you?!' when she is up to no good. Honestly, I find her naughtiness refreshing and hilarious, I think it's because Charlie never went through it, and watching her get naughty.. I feel like I'm really having the puppy experience, and it's really fun. She's nowhere near as bad as some puppies I've heard about, but she's mischievous that it keeps everyone entertained ;) (BTW, i don't let her get away with murder... whenever she does something bad, I remind her of the house rules, then laugh about it when she's gone somewhere )

I take my 5 months (crazy Japanese Spitz) for 2x 15-20 minutes walk a day... one in the morning and one in the evening. On the weekend, we go for 1 hour walk and play time at the dog park (or I organise a play date for her). We also play a lot of fetch at home, and we do zoomies together too at the backyard. Also we do about 15 minutes training everyday too.

Should Aggressive Dogs Be Taken To Offleash Parks?
W Sibs replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
No. If people do, should be on leash at ALL TIMES. -
Yeah, that's annoys me too. I don't take my dogs to the vet to socialise..

How Did You Find/choose Your Dogs Breeder?
W Sibs replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't plan to get Charlie... he was an accident, and my friend knew I was looking for a Cav puppy or a Shih Tzu puppy, and told me about a friend who has a Cav x Shih tzu puppy. One night after work, we went to see the puppy (for kicks and giggles)... Charlie came home with me that night. We actually took him to the "breeders" friend who's a vet.. got his vac, mircochip, and cause the lady works for the council.. we did the paperwork that night too! That was that Emmy was found by accident. We originally talked to a breeder in NSW but there were complications, and the boyfriend and i were feeling bum, so he went on DOL to have a look what else is out there. Came across Emmy's breeder, talked me into calling.. the breeder and I automatically clicked. We talked for a few hours the first time we chatted, then she offered me her one and only pup. The boyfriend and I weren't keen on a little girl, but her temperament sounds exactly what we were looking for. We went to go meet Emmy but end up taking her home with us I'm not sure if my next dog will be a Japanese Spitz (most probably not) BUT i will definitely own another one in the future. I'm in love with that breed. I will probably get another Jap Spitz from her if she is still breeding them in the future. -
The boyfriend, Charlie, Emmy and I went to have a picnic at Pyrmont... where we met another Japanese Spitz and Emmy and the puppy had an awesome time playing together. Charlie had a great time exploring the new park he has never been before... he loved it. They are both sleeping right now... Charlie in his day bed and Emmy is sleeping between Ducky and Mr Hippo (their huge stuff toys that's as big as them!)

Does The Council Put Down Dogs Within A Few Days?
W Sibs replied to Outkast1972's topic in General Dog Discussion
So you're friends knew the dogs were in the pound because the pound let them know it's there... they didn't pick it up straight away or for 3 days, so the pound put them down... ummm... isn't that usually what happens when dogs are in the pound and don't get picked up? they often get put down if no one wants them? Pounds are busy and usually very full, and they aren't going to wait for owners to take their time to pick up their dogs whenever they want... they did the right thing to contact the owners in the first place! seriously... some people!! RIP doggies -
I'm guilty with the whole mummy and daddy thing And guilty of spoiling my 2... Charlie does have a stroller so I can push him around when walking gets to much for him! But, my dogs are treated like dogs. The exercise, the training and all that jazz... Beside, I enjoy being with Charlie and Emmy because they are dogs. They are funny little creatures who can make me laugh every single day. How the play with each other, how they play with me... it's fun :D Just like I enjoy hanging out with my friends kids because they are kids. Happier even more when I return them to their parents because OMG.. they can be exhausting!! :D When I have my own kids, they won't replace Charlie or Emmy. It would just mean the family is getting bigger and probably a whole lot noiser!

man.. $20!! wow.. good to know they like to aim high!

First off.. awww.. what a cutie!!! Do you try tiring him out before going to sleep? Emmy use to wake up at 2.30am, then again at 5am. She doesn't sleep through the night.. it drove me insane. Although, she didn't cry or whinge, she will stratch the door or she will go under the bed and play under there. So, I've learn that if I do a training session with Emmy and play fetch with her, it gets her tired or calm enough that she will settle. Also, routine is a huge thing too. Every night on a week night, about 10.30pm, I tell my 2 it's bedtime. We go into the bedroom, Emmy goes to the bed on the floor and waits for her pig ear or a treat (right now it's ice cubes in a sock.. she's teething and finds this comforting), and she lays there for an hour while I shower and get ready for bed. About 11.30pm, it's lights out, that's when she jumps on the bed and stretches out to go to bed. We HAVE to do this, or else she won't settle. On weekends, we don't have that.. but once the lights gets turned off, she knows she has to go on the bed. Good luck, hope you find something that works soon for you and Oscar, so everyone can get a peaceful night sleep!

Everyone always tells me that I'm a natural mother because how I look after Charlie and Emmy. But, I don't know. I watch my friends who are parents, they have it so much harder then i do with my two... I don't think I have the patience for being a parent yet! Not denying that Charlie and Emmy does bring out the nurturing side of me... I love looking after them, training them, make sure they are happy and give them a lot of attention, but I just thought it was because they make me so happy. They can destroy my favorite handbag because I stupidly left it on the floor, but I can't get mad at them because they are so cute and I can always forgive Emmy when she comes and gives me a cuddle... or when Charlie comes and snuggles right beside me and put his head on my shoulder... I feel everything is right in the world.

Charlie is a whiner... OMG, can he whinge. It's his way of communicating with us.. he whinges to let us know he wants something. But, there are times where I think he whinges to annoy the crap out of everyone because he feels like we aren't giving him enough attention... he gets louder and louder if we ignore him. Emmy doesn't whine... she is a growler.
-
Absolutely I hope you explained this, Aunty Vi. No, i didn't have too... his little sister piped in and corrected him instead Quoting the little miss "Charlie not bwoken!! He is u-teek (unique)" (she likes using strange words)
-
I take Charlie on my holiday trips.. he loves it. We usually eat outside at a cafe where he just lays under my chair and watching people walking pass... he does get a lot of pats too, so he loves that.
-
That pretty much sums it up for me too. Yep Although, i do give Emmy a block of frozen beef mince last night... she is teething and lost 2 teeth last night (when she bit into a chicken neck.. i replaced it with the frozen beef mince i was defrosting for my dinner!)... poor thing just want to lick the mince and then ate the mince once it defrost.

Advice Needed For Council Approval For 3 Dogs
W Sibs replied to GRLC's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with the appeal and using the old age card... good luck. bloody councils.. they are so difficult. -
Thanks to us for holding up the economy! PETS are doing their fair share for national finances. Pet ownership pumped $6.02 billion into the Australian economy last year, a healthy leap on the $4.62 billion spent in 2005. Gourmet foods and edible treats, toys, bedding and grooming, pampering and veterinary treatment, burials and even hired help to walk the family mutt made up most of the costs associated with keeping a cat or dog. The number of cats and dogs, fish and birds, horses, rabbits and reptiles remains mostly stable, and there are more pets in Australia than people -- 33 million. But the good news for them is that humans are spending more per animal, even though the costs of providing for them has barely changed. A report by the Australian Companion Animal Council reveals many other incalculable benefits of calling a four-legged or feathered friend a family member. "Pets provide significant psychological and physiological benefits to owners. They help our children learn about caring and being responsible, they improve feelings of safety and help build social bridges in our communities," said council president Dr Kersti Seksel. And more people owe their jobs to the pet care industry, with employment up from 44,700 people four years ago to 47,627 last year. A staggering $2.22 billion, 37 per cent, of all expenditure goes on veterinary services, which reflects the importance of our pets in our lives, she said. Then comes food, with pets munching through $1.83 billion in tasty treats. At the other end, $111 million a year was spent on kitty litter. The average cost a day to keep a dog was under $3, and just $1.50 for a cat. "For all the money they generate, they are an inexpensive addition in any family's life," Dr Seksel said. "The annual costs of owning a pet are still relatively low."

I've met a CKCS x Poodle too and she was really tall but looks exactly like a CKCS. I'm thinking that the poodle was a standard size one.. the owner didn't realise their dog will be so big! Seriously, it was really tall. Charlie is CKCS x Shih Tzu... he is a stumpy little fella. He is all but 5.6kg. Long body but short legs. I finally met a purebred CKCS and he was taller than Charlie but not as long, but they weight the same.

 on my god.. that is sooo cute! Do you pay for the drawing? The boyfriend said the same thing. He comes over trying to offer me $20 for Charlie but goes home getting a job offer He is really a cute little boy... waiting 6 years of a puppy is going to damn near kill him (not him waiting but his parents going to murder him because he WILL ask them every single day if he is 12 yet!). Reminds me of me! I used to write pony onmy Mum's shopping list! Never got one!
