Dogs listens better than men MANY New Zealand women agree their loved pooches are better listeners than their partners, while some men believe their dogs show them more affection, a pet care company survey shows. A Purina survey released yesterday showed 31 per cent of female dog owners believe their pets have better listening skills than their partners, and 14 per cent of men say their dog gives them more love than their partner. After interviewing 250 dog owners and 250 cat owners nationwide, the survey also concluded nearly 50 per cent of female cat owners share their problems with their feline friend. More than 80 per cent of female and male dog or cat owners admit to "cherishing pets", with more than 50 per cent considering themselves a mum or dad to their pets. Purina's pet-care expert Shivaun Statham said the results mean that pets can become as endearing as a child or a close friend to many owners. "When people find strong companionship and affection in their pets, it is quite normal for them to begin treating their animals as important family members." ------- Just something amusing

Hi Welcome. Hills is not the best one out there, although, my picky eater doesn't mind it. But, my little girl hates it, and only eat Advance Puppy Plus. Saying that, my 2 are mostly on a raw diet.. to me, that's better than dry biscuits. So bones, egg, tuna, banana, plain yoghurt isn't bad for them... although I would suggest sardine instead of tuna (sardine has bones in it.. good for calcium). Chicken Wings, necks, frame and lamb bone is good for the pup too. As for socialisation.. it is important, although I think your puppy school teacher is going about it the wrong way. Just throwing puppies all in together and let them work out stuff themselves is not a good way of introducing puppies to other puppies and dogs!!! Just got to find the right kind of dogs to socialise your dog will teach them to be confident... a big hyper lab is going to teach it to be fearful against big dogs. If you live in Sydney... your puppy can come play with my two They are really good with puppies (especially the little ones). Charlie loves puppies and so patience with them and Emmy will teach it how to play. She taught my cousins' tiny Tibetian Spainel puppy and a timid 13 weeks old Jap Spitz puppy how to play.. very cute.

What Is Your Dog's Favourite Chew Toy?
W Sibs replied to Staranais's topic in General Dog Discussion
Aside from each other? Old socks with treats in it. Hankies Ribbons Toilet rolls Cardboard boxes Squeaky yet furry toys Neither one likes kong nor rope toys. -
Hi, welcome. A lot of people leave their dogs for 10 hours a day and the pup seems fine As long as you fulfill their needs (exercise, good diet etc).. then I think you'll be fine Before getting my second dog, my first pup was at home for 9 hours a day (5 days a week).. but I made sure he got his walks in the morning, we have a play session or training session for him so he can get tired. He mostly sleeps through the day though. He has different toys he can play with, plenty of food and water for the day. When I get home from work, we go for another walk and a lot of play sessions. Weekends is all about dog parks, visiting friends houses etc.

She's a Japanese Spitz.. she has grown since those pics. But, she is a small breed dog though.

Maybe ring them up and ask?
-
thanks for the replies guys Emmy's paper is not in my name.
-
I've know this has been asked before but I can't find the info Emmy is on VIC Limited Registration but I have to change it to NSW Registration. How do I get that done? Do I send her papers to the NSW Dog council or something? We have all the paper work ready but have no idea where to send it!
-
Yep.. Vitamin D for dogs is important My 2 likes being wherever I am, and most of the time I like being outside. Weekends we like to spend as much time outside as possible. They enjoy being outside... I think it's because they stay inside a lot during the week while I'm at work, despite having a doggie door for them and everything.
-
Yep. Charlie and Em does this They like switching their bones too.. apparently they think their bones taste differently or something. Charlie eats all Emmy's left overs. she is a messy eater and never cleans up after herself.
-
Right now... nope. I will melt when I see a puppy, then I remember I have one at home and she's quite a handful!!
-
that is just plain wrong..
-
I have to bribe, beg and talk Charlie into getting out of bed most mornings... he gives me the most evil looks when I tell him it's time to get out of bed, and it's a nice day out. Mind you, this happens after I've already taking Emmy for a walk, me showering and getting ready for work... Charlie will be stretched out on the bed sleeping when that all happens In winter, he will bury himself under the blankets and pillows.
-
thanks everyone... Charlie is a really awesome dog and despite him having what he has... he is so easy going and so sweet, that's it's not hard to look after him. Right now, he is sleeping on the floor beside me and his head resting on ankles. GoldenGirl85: Charlie has a rare disease called Bone Vanishing Disease (Gorham Disease). There was a stage where it was scary and his bone was vanishing in a rapid pace, but now it's stable and no longer vanishing Pass 5 months, he has been stable.

Teaching A Dog To Eat Things On Command
W Sibs replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I taught Emmy that tablet is the best treat ever too. She has to work for her worming tablets. She loves it. Umm.. Charlie kinda just knows that things goes quicker if he just goes with the flow. He doesn't like tablets and will never get it out of hand, but he knows he is fighting a losing battle.. so when I hold his head up, he open his mouth for me so i can stick the tablet down his throat easier.. it's done within seconds. He only gets a pat on the head for being good though He does put up a fight with the boyfriend tries to give him his tablet though... -
Just want to thank you all again for your good thoughts, support and healings vibes... I really really appreciate it, Charlie too!! I wouldn't of been able to get through all this without DOL.. it's the place i went to for answers, support and comfort when it comes to Charlie... or just to have a good laugh and go 'awwwww' at some puppy pictures or cute/funny stories about your pups.. it always puts a smile on my face So a HUGE HUGE THANK YOU!!!!! to everyone!!

I'm sooo happy!!! My little dude also now weight 6.1kg but he looks really healthy, happy and he is just doing awesome! (i rarely use this emoticon) He is getting better and better each time we take him to his specialist visits. Everyone is thrilled with how he is doing!! I just had to share the happy news
-
He is officially stable... he had an xray this morning and nothing has changed!! Which means it's all good. He also got the all clear that he can go back to obedience training too (we are going to do this for fun and socialisation). He has been welcome back opened arm back to his old club too

How Often Do You Feed Sardines And Eggs?
W Sibs replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sardines with their bikkies 2 or 3 times a week. They have egg milkshake (shell and all) once a week. Sometimes on the weekends, they will get a boil egg each for a snack. -
If that's the case.. I think you will need to talk to a professional. Although, I never really heard of a puppy who has separation anxiety before. How do you leave the house? And how do you enter the house?
-
Are you sure she has separation anxiety? Do you know for sure she barks all day? Maybe ask your neighbours to see if she has been barking all day? My 2 barks like crazy fools when they hear my car pull into the driveway.. but soon quiets down when I reach the front door. I even see my little girl jump and do a 360 in the air to let me know she's excited I'm home but they settle down pretty quickly when I walk through the front door. SA is pretty serious stuff. We had a dog that had that, and it was terrible. He destroyed the house, we came home and he was covered in drool from head to toe if we were out of the house more than a hour. He put a hole in the metal garage door to try to escape to be with us...
-
With my 2.. as soon as I got them, i took them out and everywhere. As for walks, i would use to walk my 2 up and down my street.. so we go for 2x 5 minutes walk a day... by the time they were full vaccinated, they were going on 2x 15-30 minutes walk a day (one in the morning and one in the evening). Emmy is terrible on the leash.. she is a puller! There are days where she's awesome on the leash, but most of the time she's not! No advice on the leash though.. my 2 knew from the start that the leash means going out for an adventure. Emmy will bite and pull on it if we are taking to slow to leave the house though.. it's just one tug, and an impatience bark to hurry us up.

ohh.. hope you can make it, julzjc!
