  1. I had a husky who loved to swimming and like Darlingdog, I had to keep her on a very long leash or else she won't come back. There has been times where I had to jump into the water to get her out.. but she sees me jump in and starts heading back to shore.. :D
  2. Glad everything went ok and the boys behaved...
  3. I wouldn't decide to get another dog till the first pup has at least pass their rebellion stage And your Charlie is so cute
  4. You know it takes Charlie and Emmy about 2-3 months to finish 1 pig ear. I give them a pig ear each and one of them will go hide one theirs and then they both share the other one. They will take turn chewing, playing and eating it... once they finished it, they will bring out the other one (usually hid on my bookself in plain view of everyone too) and do the same with that one. Charlie is like that with bones too sometimes... he likes his bones cut in bite sizes, thank you
  5. Emmy bought a whole new fresh, happy and lively energy into my family It's awesome. Charlie started to lose confident on being a dog, he mostly just wanted to sleep and be a major sooky. Emmy came, and she just wants to play and Emmy being Emmy, she makes Charlie plays with her. Charlie is RUNNING now because of her, and he looks so much happier and stronger. So yes, I saw a major change in Charlie when Emmy came along. But instead of having just one dog that follows me around, I now have two
  6. err is not one incident enough? How many more dogs does it have to damage before they do something about it. Stuff it, I would go straight to the paper with this. Someone has to pay the vet bills and it sure as hell shoudlnt be you. + 1
  7. I took the first week off. The boyfriend took the second week off. Had to supervise the playing. Get her in a routine. Do some bonding time with her and just get to know her and for her to get to know us. Plus we were bored of work and just wanted to have time off... having a new puppy made an awesome excuse We lucked out that Emmy settled into our family straight away. We can't imagine our lives without her anymore
  8. A lot of people get another dog for that reason... Just ask yourself if YOU are ready for another puppy. The house training, the training itself, will you be able to give both dogs their individual attention that they will need.. If Charlie didn't get sick.. I would of waited till he was 2 years old (despite me driving the boyfriend up the wall about puppies and which breed we should get next ). I had huge plans for him, he was going to do obedience, agility and great camping and road trip plans too. It would be so much easier with one dog, and he was happy being the only dog. He did have a very active social life, so his liked his alone time. It helps that he sleeps a lot
  9. I can't watch stuff like this... nor read stuff like that either..
  10. I am no help but I want to say that I love treating Rover.. he is so cute I even have pig ears in my cupboard just for him (and Riddick)...
  11. Just cause you're a shorty and speak softly doesn't mean you can't be a strong pack leader I agree with the others and get professional help and send the bill to your housemate, who was rude and inconsiderate to leave his dog like that for a month for you to look after!!
  12. The first breed I fell in love ever was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel... I remember going to visit my Aunty and her CKCS puppy (also name Charlie) came over to, climbed in my lap and fell asleep. I was 3 years old and I knew I was in love. Ever since then, I've always wanted one. Funny because usually I prefer big dogs over little dogs but there is something about Cav's eyes that always gets me.
  13. Go James!! And go you!! That's awesome
  14. From my experience.. JRT. Crazy little dogs. The 2 I know will chase everything and anything. And, will do everything and anything to catch whatever they are chasing too! They are both trained in drive. Both of mine loves to hunt and chase... Charlie keeps away the insects, mice and lizard away. Birds no longer visit out yard anymore since we got Emmy.
  15. that's terrible! hope you're dog heals quickly! and someone can help you!
  16. It kinda makes sense.. while on leash walking, they are always moving. No breaks with toilets, sniffing or anything. Just like swimming, they always have to keep moving or else they will sink..
  17. I've always believe you get the dog you need and not necessary the dog you want... Charlie and I instantly bonded from the split second we met. I know this is going to sound corny and cheesy but really when we first met each other.. he came into me and sat down in front of me, scratched his ear and looked at me as though he was saying 'oh there you are. I've been waiting for you'. I looked down at him and all the dark clouds I had around me all disappeared and it was all good. It was instant bond between us. Charlie's "breeder" didn't really want to give him away but saw us together, she said it would of been too cruel to keep us apart. After talking to Emmy's breeder, she offered Emmy to us saying that she was perfect for my family. I didn't meet Emmy till I met her but I already named her although I wasn't 100% if she was going to go home with me I felt her energy before I saw her, she was soooo happy. Her tail never stop wagging, she had the biggest grin on her face and she automatically jumped in my arms. I was instant in love. When we got her home, she walked into the house as though she has lived there all her life. She zoomed into Charlie for cuddles and then ran into the backyard and did zoomies. She is what the family needed. Her happiness, hyperness, affection and just her. She was exactly the fresh of breath air we were looking for. And, that alone has kept her in this family She is a handful... a typical hyper and happy puppy, who was a bitch to toilet train, has no attention span but constantly needed to do something because she doesn't do boredom very well.
  18. Has she been wormed since you had her? I'd not rate petshops as high on the list of sources of advice on puppy nutrition. Basically, once you've parted with your cash, unless they promote what they sell, they really don't give a damn. yes she had been wormed, when i bought her i took her straight down to my local vet, he done a check of her for me and informed me that he was the one who microchipped, wormed, vaccinated and done health checks on all the pups from this litter, when i took her back for her booster vaccination she was wormed again, vet changed her to hills science - apparently it is a better food for them, the sloppy poos started pretty much straight away from her lunch time feed, i put it down to vaccinations from that morning, i am thinking that it is the hills science that is causing her problems, i need to find a food that is not going to upset her tummy, she was fine till after lunch today when i reintroduced some hills biscuits, not even 1/8 cup mixed in with bland diet, but tonite she was runny again, how long can they be on a bland diet, what is the best dry food for puppies?? They stay on bland food till you think it's ready for them to get off it. I've only done the boil chicken and rice with Charlie till his poo got firmer and then slowly introduced him back to his usual diet (raw).. it took about a week and a half before he was fully off it. I also fed him yoghurt. All pups are different. when it comes to dry food. We went through so much dry food that suits Charlie and we discovered he only ate Hill BUT only if it's been aired out for 24 hours.. the smell is was too strong for him to eat. Emmy, on the other hand, hates Hills. We put her on Advance Puppy Plus and she loves it and is doing really really well on it. Even Charlie loves it and no longer eats Hills.
  19. My experience is.. take them outside. give them the command to go to the toilet. give them a praise and cuddle when they do so. take them inside.. no talking to them or anything. put them back where they sleep (Emmy sleeps on the bed with me). go back in bed. ignore them. this doesn't take more than 2 minutes. Emmy is good.. she goes straight to sleep. she knows that if I turn the light off, it's sleep time.
  20. This is a discussion that the boyfriend and I debatetalk about once in a while.. both side of the family loves our 2 as much as we do and they all want them. Whatever happens to them, they won't be separated and they still will live a very sweet, spoil and comfortable life We have agreed that both of them will inherit some money so that they are financially looked after for their rest of their lives (so they won't be that kind of burden from whoever gets them).. any money left over after they pass will be donated to dog rescue. It's all worked out BUT who officially gets them!!
  21. For small breeds some breeders keep them a little longer... I think because they are tiny, they don't want to hand the pup over if they are too little.. that's what a friend told me when she got her pom.
