  1. Well.. I've been training him to find my keys and glasses because I'm constantly losing it. He is good with the keys but we're still working on the glasses Emmy finds my mobile phone for me but I think cause she likes the ringtone hmm.. well, I think Charlie can only be my service dog Sweet.. still going to do CGC and then we do the therapy test. Vets are the one who gave me an idea of doing CGC. Other from his back/bone issues.. his health is good :D Yeah I have, but before Charlie got sick. Now that he is getting better and stronger, I'm seriously considering it. Good luck!!!! I'm sure your girls will do great!! Let us know how it goes!! Sweet! Thanks. I live in Sydney. I'm doing the course through Gladesville Vet
  2. This is something I would like him to do and Charlie loves kids and would get a kick out of it
  3. Ha... never thought about that with service dogs. Good points!! I'm not giving up my Charlie. Thanks Like i said, haven't really thought far ahead about it... i like the idea of him helping people though, i think he would really like that.
  4. I don't know! I have to admit that I haven't thought about it that far ahead or seriously looked into it... Just want to get through this course first
  5. Yeah, I think it's a good idea to train them separately. Charlie and Emmy only walk together if the boyfriend is joining in the walk. 90% of the time they are walked separately (10% is when I'm lazy and don't want take 4 walks a day ): 1, to do training separately 2, bond with them separately and have our alone time together 3, so they can get use of being alone (and not be too dependent on each other) It was real important to me that neither dogs are TOO attached to each other... they love hanging out with each other and always play together, but they can leave each other to be with me (or the boyfriend) As for the no pulling on the leash... still working on that with Miss Emmy We are doing if she pulls, I stop and wait for her to come back to me and then start again. Click when she is walking nicely. Sometimes it takes us 20 minutes to get down the driveway. Yes, I have to be consistent. My girl just gets to hyper happy when she gets to go outside and just wants to RUN.
  6. I was actually thinking that this would be perfect for you!!!
  7. Undecided... just going through this and see how Charlie goes, then decide from there. Aside from his very casual obedience he goes too (more socialising then anything else), this would probably be his first serious training for anything since he got sick. Beside, I think it's kinda sweet and cool that Charlie becomes a Canine Good Citizen If they think (and I feel) that he could be a proper service dog then we would give that a go too I just want him to do something, he has been acting up a bit lately and I think it's due to boredom. There is a limited of things he is allow to do and he is a dog that always need to be challenged. So, I'm just putting him out to try different thing and learn new things, and see where to go from there
  8. Sounds interesting... Charlie would think it's Christmas to be in a room full of kids!!
  9. Yep. The trainer who's running this course is a Delta Trainer
  10. Sweet.. well, if that's the case then it sounds like Charlie will breeze through it
  11. Oh sorry! I'm in NZ. So I'm not sure how similar the Aussie system is. Cool!! I think it's similar.. from what I read about it online. It's similar worldwide.
  12. I've never heard about it either till one of the trainers mentioned it. CGC Well, I was thinking that he can eventually become a service dog
  13. Charlie is starting classes to become a Canine Good Citizenship!! The trainers and vets thinks that Charlie will be great for this (because he has an awesome temperament). I thought, just give it a go. I figured no harm in trying it out Charlie's obedience is doing really well. I know a few people on here has a CGC dogs... are the classes hard?
  14. Still thinking about Yogi and you! Sending a pray and healing thoughts towards your way!!
  15. Charlie's favorite game is 'Search'. What I did with him was get a treat and 'hid' it with him seeing it where I hid it. Then I point at the treat and say 'Search'. We do this for a couple of time, then I started to put his treats where i can't see it and telling him to "Search" for it. Now we're at the stage where I make him stay in a sit/stay position in a different room and hide stuff around the house and then I release him and say 'Search'. He loves the game. We've only just started using objects now (eg keys.. i'm always losing them)
  16. OMG.. just read this thread. Sending Yogi healing vibes!
  17. I think yes. My dogs won't go near a person if they know that person doesn't like them, and they won't acknowledge a person if they don't care them.
  18. You know after reading A LOT about drive... there is a thing called Pack Drive, where some dogs really does work for cuddles and pats for the person they really bond with. Very interesting stuff.
  19. I think it's natural that dogs will always wants to be with their pack and when they can't, they will protest or whinge about it, but get over it. Some dogs like following their leader around the house... my 2 follow me around the house or often checks up on me. Neither one care if I leave the house either... i left to work this morning, Charlie was snoozing in his day bed and Emmy was finishing up eating her breakfast.. neither one even looked up when I said my usual 'later dogs. be good'. SA is a dog that can't handle it being apart from their "pack" they will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to get to them or not be alone. They can seriously harm themselves trying to get to their "pack". They are very unstable and it's really heart breaking to watch. We had a dog that had SA.. he will drool badly, he ate through metal doors, jump through a window...
  20. Just need to re house train your pup again. Do a lot of training with it. Go to obedience or get a trainer out to help you. cat poo has nothing on possum poo according to my 2... ewwwwww
  21. Funny you bought this up Bubs... my family was discussing this over Father's Day lunch. I agree with ReadySetGo that they don't understand the concept of love or resentment, but I believe that they do feel and read their owners body language and energy, and feed off that.
  22. Gemma looks so proud in those photos!
