  1. Maybe you can get a house/pet sitter? I wouldn't leave my 2 alone for a week and only having visitors coming once or twice a day either.
  2. Charlie thinks he is boss... but no one really takes him seriously
  3. There is a name for it! The fun police I like it!
  4. Me too!! I have 2 small breed dogs and I'm tired of seeing little dogs with issues and their owners think it's "cute".
  5. By Charlie. Last night, Emmy and I were wrestling, playing tug and we were playing a lot rougher than usual (I think it was the weather and releasing some stress). We were loud, there were growls, laughing and we were just having a good time playing around. Charlie came into the room (he was napping in the hallway) and didn't like the noise and how we played, he pushed his way between us and stood there telling us to chill... :) Emmy, being Emmy, got her tug toy and whacked him over the head with it as though saying 'whatever bro!'. Then the games continues... Do you guys have a dog that likes to keep the peace? (and then fails miserably )
  6. OMG... Charlie is a master whinger! If you don't like it, just ignore it For me, it's Charlie's way of communicating with me. He whinges about everything... last night, he walked around the house with a pig ear in his mouth whinging because he couldn't find a place to hide it. He is a funny fella.
  7. Emmy was the bully in her class. All the little dogs (and their owners) was scared of her.
  8. Gladesville Vet It's where I took Charlie and Emmy Gayl O'Grady (who runs it) is nominated for MBDA Best Trainer Awards. She also run Canine College and the Canine Good Citizen program.

    Trouble Sleeping

I do feel your pain. I have an energetic dog too. Plus, a dog that sleeps all day and play all night...
  10. Will full blast of water from the hose work in that situation? Or they will be too lost in their fight that they wouldn't notice?
  11. when dogs reach to a level where they are no longer controllable. where all they see is that object and that's it. Cesar Millan use his phrase a lot.
  12. Emmy and Charlie slept on my bed the day the came home.. wouldn't have it any other way Now, Charlie prefers on the floor and only sleeps on the bed with me when he isn't feeling well.
  13. Huh? I thought he had a stroller now? i just saw the pun! He does have a stroller!! A very cool red one. I only take the stroller out when we go somewhere that's an all day thing (eg, pet fairs and other stuff like that). Normal daily walks, I make him walk himself to build up muscles and exercise to keep his weight down... he can handle 15 minutes.. 10 minutes if we are walking up and down hills.

    Trouble Sleeping

Nope  Since it's been cooler at night, my girl has a lot more energy at night. Last night, I had a 2 hour play session with her (we played tug and hide and seek) before she was calm enough to lay on the bed with a pig ear... even when I turned the lights out, I could hear her chomp away. She wakes up as soon as the sun comes up too...

what's the weather like in Canberra? hot in the day and cool at night?
  16. They normal walk 10 - 15 minutes in the morning and about 20 minutes at night. On weekends, we add in several mini walks when the come with me to the shops to get coffee or lunch or go visit some neighbours... That doesn't include off leash walks/run at the park after work (gotta love daylight savings). Charlie can't handle a long walk and we don't push him.
  17. Thought I'll share a story that happen last night with the Sibs and I. There has been an annoying fly buzzing around that has been driving the pups and I insane. You know the buzzing one that always flys around your head and it's just so annoying?? So, all 3 of us went into our prey drive So, Emmy and I were standing on the bed and Charlie was on the floor. Charlie was whinging/squeaking, Emmy was growling and I was telling them to quiet down. After doing some stalking, I managed to whack the fly and Miss Emmy jumped and caught it!!! This caused Charlie to go crazy and startled Emmy, which made Emmy drop it.. right in front of Charlie. Before the fly could fly off, Charlie caught it... well, after Charlie got it the fly didn't stand a chance. Made me feel like we are a real pack. We hunted together, caught out prey, killed it (i threw out the fly before Charlie could eat it) and then we went to sleep together on the bed. ;) My pack (The Sibs)
  18. Hi! Welcome we have tried letting him walk around the yard with the leash just hanging from him. What have you done to encourage him him walking. Do you call him over and make it the best thing ever when he walks towards you? Have you encourage him to come towards you? we have tried treats each time he gains distance when we hold it Does he trust you enough to get food off you? Maybe he isn't food motivated and maybe he will walk to you if you had a toy? (squeaking toys are best). Sometimes it's best to ignore them and let them figure out what to do. If you have the leash on him, walk around the yard and he is bound to follow you to see what you're up too. we have tried a choker chain to get him going. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't use a correction chain on a puppy that young. You are punishing him for something he doesn't know or understand. Correction chains are only used for correction. This pup doesn't understand why he is getting punished for. Also, keep in mind... It's still a very young puppy who's in a new home. He is still very young and settling in and learning to trust you guys. You have to make the leash fun for the puppy. Put the leash on him and then just let him be. walk around the yard and encourage him to come to you, give him a toy and if he likes toys.. play with the toys with him. Emmy doesn't like the leash when we first put it on her (you should see the tantrum she put on)... I just ignored her and continued doing my own thing, when she stopped and looked at me... I called her out in a very happy voice and then she walked slowly towards me and that's when I act like it was the best thing ever. she got cuddles, kisses and treats. Also, when she walked with the leash, I took her to the front of the house. I wanted to associate that when I have the leash.. it means we are going somewhere. She loves going out. BTW.. what's the pups name? And, where's the pics?
