I'm not a fan of it either. I grew up with people always saying 'always leave water out for the dogs' and now I'm reading different.
-
Is this a common thing? And, why do people do this? Lately I've been reading a lot that people take water away from dogs so they have less accidents in the house or when toilet training, but how does that help? Is there other reason why you don't leave water out for your dogs?

Some training? Target training only using his head (you can teach him how to shake his head no and yes). There are mind/scent games for dogs Nina Ottosson

Charlie is a chick magnet as a puppy... but now he gets all the attention from the senior citizens or kids. Kids love Charlie and Charlie loves them right back. He isn't as keen with older people, but he polite enough to sit still so they can pat him. They usually tell me how they use to have Cavvie and how much they loved them. Emmy is a head turner. People just likes watching her and they often ask me about her, but because of her being weary of strangers, they don't pat her because she keeps her distance. Or, they will admire her whiteness and speed while she is running around the park. If they are walked together... people are more interested in Emmy than Charlie, and I have to tell them if they want to pat Emmy, they have to pat Charlie first.

Cool name They are suppose to be very cute and naughty at 9 weeks old Emmy, my JS, was a terror at that age! But poodlefan is right, you should enroll him to puppy school and do some training with him...

this morning, I went to open the front door and the screen door was open, to my shock, Emmy ran out of the house. She rarely ever does that! I can leave my front door open and she will just sit there and wait for me (not something I do on a regular basis though). But, this morning she ran to the front gate of the house and even though my heart was pounding hard and fast, I kept my cool and called out 'Hey Em. Where you going?' she stopped, and just stood there watching me to see what I would do. I can tell she really wanted to go off, but she was in new territory about running out of the house and going to the gate without me. Something she has never done before and she was very unsure on what she should do next. I can see that she was thinking really hard on what she is going to do. I knew she wanted to go but at the same time, she didn't want to go alone. And, she was waiting for a signal/cue from me to see what I will do. I knew if I walked out the front door, she will take off because she will think I'm going after her so I just took a step back into the house and calmly called out, "Come. You silly idiot!' and my girl quickly ran back into the house and launched into my arms for cuddles. I had a millions horrible scenario running through my head of what could of happened but am sooo grateful and happy that she has a very good recall. before taking her out for a walk this morning, we practise our "wait" at the door. Made her sit there for 2 minutes at the front door waiting, till I gave her permission to come outside. Also reminded me and the housemate that one of the rules is front flyscreen door must be close at all times!! That mini heart attack really woke me up!

Help With Making My Akita Take Her Medicine
W Sibs replied to Lena.'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm a cruel mummy... I rarely follow up with a treat. But they do get a kiss on the head though. Once you do it over and over again it gets easier and faster Hope Mia gets better soon -
How old is your puppy? There is no use being upset about it or scream at him, because he seriously doesn't understand you. He doesn't understand he isn't suppose to be biting. Puppy likes to bite, that's how to learn things but you have to teach him that it's not the right thing to do. Things you can try: Hold your thumb under his tongue and hold his lower jaw for a few seconds.. let go.. hold your hand out to his mouth, if he avoids your hand then praise and reward. if he continue to bite, repeat that method. don't get mad or upset... just be calm about it. the more upset you get, the more he will feed off that energy. Hold a small tin with little rocks in it. When he bites, shake that tin near him, that would shock him to let go. Praise and reward him when he does. Repeat this (a few people have done this to Emmy and it has worked on her). Shove him away. Ignore him (even if that means leaving the room). If he is going after the feet... then stop moving, get a toy and encourage him to play with that toy or with something else. Most JS loves to chase something, so just throw something and he will go chase it. Hold him up from the scruff till he is calm (i have done this to Emmy when she use to go for my toes. Done this to her twice and she has never gone after anyone feet again). Give him some chew toys to chew on. ----------- Play with him when he is calm. Stop playing with him when he gets too much. Ignore him if he is too much for you. I wouldn't use his crate as a punishment or a place where you him for time out. Crate is suppose to be one of the best places in the world for them. We needs to see some pics of him (i have a very soft spot for JS )

This is a really good suggestion

Emmy always have something in her mouth too... but that's because she is hoping that someone will stop what they are doing and play with her When I come home, Charlie always grabs a toy before coming to meet me, so he can give it to me (then takes is back a second later). They never bring anything to bed with them... but if a toy is in their bed or the spot they are sleeping at, they won't remove it either. Lazy buggers, they will just sleep on it.

Where Is Dog Training Heading?
W Sibs replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This! I would like to see more Canine Good Citizenship program running because I think it's fantastic. It really teaches the people that having a well behave dog, they will enjoy their dog more and want to spend more time with their dogs. I know there are a lot of people who don't want to go to obedience classes because it's boring, but they want to have well behave dogs but don't know how to do that. So programs like CGC and other home pet obedience classes, I think, will help people like that. -
;) I'm soo sorry for your lost
-
Anything is possible... if that happens, I will take the dog the vet straight away for a check up... rather be safe than sorry
-
This describes her perfectly! ;) There will be pics when I have internet at home. Work doesn't let me upload pics

Sydney All Breed is a good club I use to take Charlie there.
