I've stopped correcting my dogs barking, just cause it's not like them to bark randomly and for no reason. They do have a quiet commands (it's either 'Shut up' or 'Enough'). When Emmy barks, it's usually for a reason. I will have to go and see what she's barking about and a simple 'Thanks' makes her happy again. When Charlie is barking, he has to show us why he is barking... it could be because there is a lizard at the front door and he wants to go out and chase it. Charlie's barking is now a way of communicating with me. I rely on his barks to let me know what he wants... either he needs to go up and down stairs. He wants a toy that Emmy put on the couch and he wants it (she's a brat... she takes his stuff and put it on high places knowing he can't jump up to get it). I've never stopped them barking while they are playing... I find it very cute when they do :D

I have a doggie door. Dogs have access inside and outside of the house 24/7 :D They are mostly inside dogs though.

Charlie saved my life... that pretty much sums up how much he changed my life and how important he is to me Emmy is an angel in disguised. She makes everything happy and fun. You can't be sad around her, it's like she doesn't allow it

Weird. I suggest that you ring up the vet and question them about it? Maybe he has eaten something and you didn't notice. Is he feeling sick? Looks sick?

Japanese Spitz pups are very little.. so kicking it can definitely hurt him! So, I definitely won't recommend kicking it (I don't recommend kicking any pups actually ) When I said shove, I meant gently do it. Just so you can stop the biting behaviour.

How old will you stop scruffing a puppy? (I never did scruff Emmy a lot, but did it a few times when she was going through 'OMG, I love toes' phase of hers)

You Know Your Dog Is Keen When...
W Sibs replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
- when she starts doing her happy dance when you bring out the clicker because she knows clicker means training. - when she grabs your hand letting me know it's time to do some TID - when she gets her tug toy and starts hitting you with it. - when he sits in heel position and looking up adoring up at you without you asking. -
sounds like Kennel cough. stop googling (and making yourself stressed out) and take your pup to the vet

OMG... they are soooo cute!!!! Puppies barking and growling while playing is normal. It's like kids yelling and laughing while playing. They can get loud!!! If you are worried about the neighbours while you are out, you can separate them in different crates or different places in the apartment (it's also a good idea to teach them to be on their own too and not be too dependent on each other ) Personally, I love it and won't do anything to discourage it (only step in when things get too much). My little girl is the growler while my boy is the barker. I know they are having a great time when they get really loud...

Emmy is only a tart when it comes to male humans.

Charlie: cheapo collar and leash from a $2 shop (he was really tiny). When he got bigger, we changed to Rogz collar (martingale and flat collar). His leash is one I bought at a random place. The clasp is small, tight and won't break. Also, the leash is light. Looking into getting him a proper leather, buckled collar for him though. Emmy: Rogz flat collar. K9pro martingale collar (for training). Ruffwear harness. As for the leash, I don't know the brand but I looked around for a leash with a really good clasp, that I know won't break or get lose, but at the same time it won't be heavy or big that when i use a flat collar on it, it would be too heavy either. For a GSD... I would use a buckle collar As for the leash... as long as the clasp is secure and strong, it really doesn't matter what leash you use.

I do the same

Happy birthday Bronte!!!

Me neither. I can't even whistle, without fingers. Which is why yelling is so important for me! Same.

This is the only drug I use on Charlie. Only use it on his "bad days". that stuff is amazing. Oh no

ring the vet to ask will be the safe bet.

Yes I do. I rather they wake up at night needing to go the toilet then waking up so I can get them a glass of water, then wait for them to drink it, then go to the toilet and try to get them back to sleep again (yes... this has happened a few times for me while baby sitting)

deer antler I get mine from here.

With the kelpie, because he has these weird habits, you know when he's thirsty, and if you ask him he'll run to the water bowl if he wants some(and he'll tell you when it's empty ). However, over summer, there is ALWAYS two full bowls available at all times, we don't take it away at all... we only take it away if he's going back to his old tricks and only if it's not hot weather. Kelpie drink a lot... well the ones I know anyway.. is that normal in that breed? Does he sit by the bowl and whinge when it's empty, too? Charlie does this.
