Charlie does not let any dog near his back. Understandable. If a dog comes closer... Charlie will end up sitting on our feet so the dog can't go near his back. he doesn't mind if they sniff him but that's only if he can still see their body. Emmy will tell the dog off if they try to hump her. She doesn't put up with it. She just bump them away... if they don't get the picture, she will add in a growl and bark with that bump, and usually the dog gets the picture. If they don't, I will step in. I think it's a submissive behaviour...

My pen I have one of these...
-
oh dear! did he sulk for hours afterward?
-
gotta love that boy! Charlie didn't make a sound when I left too, not even when I yelled out 'Bye Charlie!'. He only barked when I came home and ask 'Where are you Charlie?'
-
LOL!! Poor Bonnie. Well.. I knew where Emmy was most of the day. She is blowing coat right now and there is a lot of white fluff in front of my study door and there is scratch marks on the door too.
-
Yeah.. I think Charlie just slept. That's a really good idea!!

I locked Charlie is my clothes/study room all day while I was at work. I thought he was in the backyard while I was leaving... he sometimes too busy chasing lizards to pay attention that I'm leaving. I came home and I couldn't find him and then I heard barking from the back room... poor fella. Lucky I forgot to close the window the night before or else it would be so hot in there and I have a spare water bowl in there for him too and lucky I left work earlier to spend time with the dogs! I opened the door and he ran to the backyard to do his business and then proceed to let me know how upset he was at me by walking around the house whinging, walking around the block whinging, he cuddles up to me whinging too. Although it's a terrible thing to do... is it mean that I consider the whole situation funny?

RIP Kuga -
I'm still waiting for my 2 years old to stop... It's still a puppy and still unsettled. Give him time Ignore the whining and give him plenty of cuddles when he is quiet and calm. He will pick up what behaviour that works do to get your attention

Poor thing. Is he on any meds? (like zyrtec or something) What has the vets said about it?

She has a doggie door (though she's probably be too small to use it initially). Maybe once my garden grows a lot bigger and you can't see over the fence so easily we might give her access. Thanks CWEW! I don't leave my pups outside before they are 6 months old either... Can't wait to meet your little girl
-
Yeah, my 2 are inside. They do have a doggie door though and my house is puppy proof and no dog can escape my house! LOL
-
Charlie loves it too.

Do you usually teach your dog tricks sitting or standing up? Waving is cute. My family gets a kick when Emmy waves them 'Bye Bye'.
-
Aside from being more energetic, happier and is more playful... no, not really.

Yes, the female dog is more accepting of another dog intruding in the house intitially, I think this is true where the male dog by nature has more territorial instinct and can take more work for accepting. The female dog I find is more unpredictable thinking no worries this two female get along very nice always then suddenly massive fight happening? The male dog is easier to read and thinking no worries getting along more often stay that way and the males that don't get along good, you see that easily and keep an eye on them for the posture. We dont desex the working dog, so is different people saying with the desexed dogs for the better, but most I talking with the complete dogs from my experience. Joe This is the opposite to my house. My girl is very territorial and takes a while for her to accept other dogs in the house whereas my boy is more welcoming and invite every dog to hunt lizards with him... I do think it has to do with temperament and breed of the dog.

Prank gone wrong Drunk's brutal prank on dog backfires March 18, 2011 - 1:00PM A drunken New Zealand man who thought it would be a good prank to pull a dog's tongue has suffered serious facial injuries after the dog bit his mouth. The 39-year-old National Park resident was partying at a friend's house on Wednesday when he grabbed the large crossbreed dog and held it down while trying to grab its tongue. The dog managed to free itself and lunged at the man's face, biting the corners of his mouth, Constable Conrad Smith said. The man was taken to Taumarunui Hospital and later flown to Waikato Hospital. He was in a stable condition last night, a hospital spokeswoman said. "He had lost a lot of blood," Mr Smith said. "It is likely he will need cosmetic surgery to repair the wounds." The dog was impounded overnight but returned yesterday to its owner, in whose house the party was held. "It was a bit of a bitser. It was not a pit bull or anything. It was an old dog, it has been around for a long time," Mr Smith said. No charges would be laid. "All I can say is that people need to treat animals, especially dogs, with respect."

Interesting. Our two don't seem to mind when they're fed. They just know it's after us, so if we've had to feed them early or late, that's that - admittedly, they've never whinged for food so I wouldn't actually know if they were demanding dinner or not They never get any food but I think they are so use of getting fed that late that even if they aren't hungry, they will whinge because it's out of routine. This is more so with Emmy than Charlie. Emmy LOVES her routines.
-
Dogs understand routine. They pick up cues on certain thing going to happen eg, like opening the fridge after 9pm they know its dinner, when the tv goes off, they know it's bedtime etc. Nothing at my home is time schedules but there is a routine at home that they both know and understand. My dogs are fed late (after 9pm)... so if I feed them before 9pm, it doesn't hit them that this is dinner because after 9pm and they will start whinging about getting some food.
-
I don't think it's unusual at all... it also depends on the temperament of the dog too and not just the sex. Emmy is enough of a bitch to get another one...
-
No wonder you're exhausted...!!
-
that's really cool! thanks for sharing

If they sedate the dog then yes it could cost that much. Charlie gets xray every 3-6 months and we use to get charged about $300 (including GA) but he is only 5kg though. It's cheaper if they don't use GA.. (but we don't get charged for xrays anymore )
